Checking in from Connecticut. We are about 30 minutes away from the school in question. I woke up planning to spend this afternoon bitching at my son to do his chores but wound up giving him lots of hugs instead. Can't stop thinking about the parents who will never be able to hug their children again [Waterworks]

It didn't, really. Unfortunately. What's up: An attempt through a change in a State Board of Education rule to remove most of the protections of tenure from state college faculty in Florida, and institute a Texas-style system of annual reappointments based on student evaluations of instructors, instructors' success at getting students to meet "quantifiable measurable outcomes" (unspecified), and "retention and completion"; i.e. how many students pass our classes with at least a "C."

It will be a real disaster if it goes into effect. So, yes, please continue to pray for all of us.

Thank you for your check in. This is a day for perspective. So sorry for the loss of all those killed and for whatever circumstances that led to this young man doing such a thing.

I know there's the shooting and all - but I'd like to report a little progress on the weightloss etc...
Far less fat is around my chest - but it's all moved south.. so I'm struggling with this fat "apron" or this mass that is just around the crutch and around my lap.. not the most comfy thing to deal with. Means I'm having to lift and hold it up when sitting down, hjow I sit on the loo etc.. and it is VERY frustrating.

Prayer support would be appreciated...

"Keep watch dear Lord over all who weep tonight." A priest in Connecticut who was ministering to the grief-stricken was interviewed tonight. It clearly had been traumatic for him. What especially struck me was that he related that the phone of one of the grieving mothers suddenly rang a reminder for her to take her deceased child to a boy scout meeting that night. Also prayers for the police and other first responders who also have been traumatized by being the first to see the carnage of this horrible and tragic event. Indeed, prayers for the whole grieving town. [Votive] [Votive] [Votive]

May all in any kind of trouble get the help they need.

May mental health care be easily available to anyone who needs it.

May people learn to spot symptoms when someone is about to go over the edge into violence, and find a safe way to intervene.

Please pray for a member of my mother's church who had her disability benefits taken from her, she has a learning disability and had tried to do the forms herself, and has no money. My mum found out yesterday that she'd had no electricity or heat in her house for three weeks in Scotland in winter. My mum's taking her to the citizens advice next week to try to help her with an appeal so please pray it's successful.

New priest in charge was announced this morning - the general consensus of friends who know him is that he's a good egg - he describes himself on Facebook as a "Charismatic Evengelical", so hopefully will be right for our parish. All we're waiting for now is the Parsonage board to sort out any work that needs to be done on the vicarage so that he and his family can move in. [Yipee]

Prayed for all.

Zeke could use prayers: in spite of her recent MA, she cannot find a real job at a real high school. Perhaps with a good referral after long-term English-teaching gig filling in for a teacher on paternity leave employers will say she is experienced enough. Hope they don't keep discriminating against her on the basis of her age. I am urge her to try writing a book.

Tomorrow I go to see a Clergy Advisor, to see if there is any possible work I could do within the CoE. I would appreciate prayers for this, as it's taken a lot of work and courage to even get this far. On the one hand I do still believe I am called to ministry (and I need a job!, on the other hand I know I haven't got the strength for anything obvious, like running a parish.

The other thing that will complicate matters is I want to be honest with him about the fact that I am gay. It has taken me a long time to come to terms with this; when I was ordained I honestly believed I was straight (I think I was asked about it in my selection conference, which was back in 1980), and it's only in the last 18 months I've come out to my family, and the world generally. Grief, I've been on the Ship for more than 10 years, and for most of that time I've been scared in case anyone discovered what I was! But this is who I am, and I want to go forward honestly. I am a gay man, loved and called by God - but how this works out in practice, especially in the Church, I have no idea.

Reading through and praying individually. [Votive]

Also prayers for those involved in a car crash I passed early today on my way into town. Four cars, one totalled and in pieces over a 40 metre length. No details, but numerous emergency services, followed by corroners car indicate an unhappy outcome. [Votive]

For all those mourning tonight. [Votive]
