Hello everyone I’ve been a churchwarden for a few years. Today I repaired a bit of the organ that fell off during the last service. I have no idea what it does but I tied it back on with a bit of string. I believe that it may have something to do with the air pressure from the electric blower, a theory that will be tested on Sunday by our unwitting organist. Fortunately the organ is tucked away behind a big stone pier in the chancel so if it blows up or does anything else untoward the congregation will be safe – as there’s only a handful of them left I have to get my priorities right.
I think I’m going to enjoy it here – lovely to meet you all.

Hi enpart and welcome aboard! Duct tape is a good all round solution for things that fall off, that and Super Glue!
As I say to most new and aspiring shippies please make sure to familiarise yourself with the Ship's version of the 10 Commandments and the FAQs [both linked at the top of every page] and also have a look at the differing purpose and ethos of each of the separate boards.
I hope you enjoy the journey.

Hello All
Newbie aboard: a middling-ish Anglican with allergies to theological labels and silly words like "churchmanship". Currently enduring the CofE discernment process and volunteering in my local parish church in Roundaboutland (née Basingstoke). Looking forward to some banter and new questions.

Hi Not been around for a few years so thought I'd re-introduce myself I'm of no fixed denomination, currently at a NF church, and I'm a Greenbelter (I met a few members in the days when I had a stall there). I also know one or 2 people here in real life. My day job is as a university lecturer in health and I also spend a large part of my day crafting - mostly sewing, glass fusing and baking. Looking forward to getting stuck back in.

Hi beachcomber and welcome aboard on behalf of the All Saints Hosting Team.
As you may be aware the Ship has its very own version of the 10 Commandments, which you have agreed to when you registered; they and the FAQs are linked at the top of every page and I strongly recommend you taking a few minutes to acquaint yourself with them. It is also worth checking out the purpose and ethos of the individual boards.
Enjoy the voyage.

Hello all. I'm a Catholic convert as of Easter Vigil 2007, coming from a wide Protestant background of indeterminate origin. I currently live in the American Southeast, where anything that holds still long enough to be captured by a short-order cook will be deep fried (chicken, Oreo cookies, Twinkies, candy bars, sticks of butter, and apparently slow-moving Catholics).
I am the pianist at our parish's Saturday evening Mass. Counting myself, we have a core ensemble of nine singers and musicians - one drummer, one bassist, two acoustic guitarists, one pianist, one fiddler, and three vocalists (plus three of us instrumentalists also sing).
This looks like a fun place! [ 11. September 2012, 09:37: Message edited by: Deep Fried Catholic ]

Hi Deep Fried Catholic and welcome on behalf of the All Saints Hosting Team. Do the Catholics get breadcrumbed before frying?
When you signed up you agreed to be bound by the Ship's version of the 10 Commandments so I strongly suggest that you familiarise yourself with them and with the FAQs - both linked at the top of every page. It is also worth having a look at the different ethos and purpose of the various boards that make up The Ship.
I hope you enjoy the cruise.

Yes, it helps make our eventual martyrdom (or martyr complex, at any rate) a little more palatable. Plus, it gives us that crunchy golden coating that you just can't get even when you lie out in the sun.

I've checked them out, and they seem pretty straightforward to me. Basically mind your manners and don't spam, to sum them up.

Hello all, an Anglican from New Zealand here!
Recently ordained (and incidentally the youngest cleric in the province), Maori, attempted blogger, failed blogger. Here for a good time and to ask random questions that no one cares about like is it proper for a cleric who is invited to preach only at the Eucharist to wear a tippet instead of a stole? Or is the Canterbury Cap strictly for non-ceremonial use?
I know I will enjoy my stay!

Hello everyone - should have come here first but got so interested in some of the threads I started posting replies (and making a dog's breakfast of it) straight away. I did have the sense to read the ship's commandments first though. I found Ship of Fools through going to a church service and seeing a recommendation in the (fairly staid) parish mag. So, well-on in life, I've found the Christian Church and a ship full of people who want to talk about what I want to talk about. My cup runneth over to the point where I'm having difficulty getting any work done. A special thank you to the Mad Scientist for pointing me in the direction of the World Community Grid. Loads of spare computer capacity no longer standing idle.

Hi St.Augustine and welcome aboard - I hope that Vatican II mould isn't too toxic
Even if you lurk please make sure you are familiar with the Ship's version on the 10 Commandments and also please peruse the FAQs [both a linked at the top of every page] - if you do that and read up about the different function and ethos of each of the separate boards then you will be well set for the journey.
I hope you have fun here.

Hi, littlemiss.
In addition to what Kelly said, I'd also read the the explanation of the purpose of each board at the top of each board. Then sample a few threads on that board to get an idea how it plays out in action. But the short answer is that we talk a lot. And on each board we talk about different things in different styles. Like here in All Saints we talk and pray about real life situations. We try to be supportive and helpful. And here we may arrange times and places to get together in Real Life if we like.
So start reading. Have fun and start posting. One caveat- I'd recommend waiting a bit before posting anything substantive in Hell. It can be rather bare knuckles and tends to trip newbies up. People don't act entirely helpful and supportive there. People who are absolutely civil and respectful in other parts of the Ship might be cussing a blue streak there. ![[Snigger]](graemlins/snigger.gif)

Hello, I was brought up Salvation Army, drifted away, kept in touch with the Almighty thanks to people like JS Bach, Monteverdi, Purcell and many others; drifted back into an Anglo-Catholic church, was very Enthusiastic for a time, particularly bearing in mind Secondary Transfer: continue in the faith and now contemplating Vocation late in life. Unfortunately horribly ignorant of many matters biblical, ecclesiastical and liturgical, very keen to learn but unwilling to be patronised by pompous old farts. Also, is there a forum here for people interested in Green issues? Yoga and Christian spirituality?

Welcome Quinquireme! I didn't realise that Nineveh was in South East London.
We don't have a separate board for Green issues or Yoga and Spirituality but all may be discussed generally.
In the meantime please read both the Ship's version of the 10 Commandments and the Frequently Asked Questions, both linked at the top of every page. It will also be useful for you to check out the different ethos and purpose of each of the separate boards we have currently.
Cheers and have fun.

Hullo. Is this thread for a potted biography?
I'm Anglo-Catholic, originally from Yorkshire. I'm especially devoted to Our Blessed Lady. My interests are the art, culture, life, faith, everything to do with the Middle Ages, so from a clerical perspective the old English Uses (Sarum, York and Hereford, especially Sarum) both from a scholarly perspective and as a liturgy, which I believe, should be revived, properly, not '1662 Book of Common Prayer with Sarum trimmings' ( although I'm fond of it, the sole reason for it, in my opinion, is gone as the anti-Ritualist laws are gone) in the Church of England.
I'm quite a traditionalist - I oppose the ordination of women to any order, so-called marriage for homosexuals, 'political correctness', modern theology et al. I used to vote Tory. I don't know what now.
Simply, I believe , , quod semper quod ubique quod ab omnibus .
On a lighter note, I like good, proper, English food, cream teas, the Gothic Revival and, oddly for a traditionalist, proper Gothic [and conical and generally Medieval] chasubles [NOT the polyester bags] rather than those ugly little aprons, as Percy put it!
PS: In one sentence - Medievalist High Tory nutter. More of a Dearmerite than Percy Dearmer. [ 27. October 2012, 15:52: Message edited by: The Sainted Percy ]

Greetings, The Sainted Percy and welcome aboard on behalf of the All Saints Hosting Team.
Please spend some time to get to know and understand the Ship's version of the 10 Commandments and also read the Frequently Asked Question [both linked at the top of every page] and perhaps then you can come back and give an appropriate translation to the non-English you used in your post above - upon joining you agreed to be bound by our version of the 10 Commandments and as this is an English-speaking board Shipmates are expected to provide translations of any non-English bits they post. You may also find it useful to check through the purpose and ethos of each of the separate boards.
I hope you enjoy the cruise.

Also, is there a forum here for people interested in Green issues? Yoga and Christian spirituality?
Welcome Quinquireme. Sounds like you've had a colorful past and are looking to an even more colorful future.
We have a vocations thread here although it doesn't get a great deal of traffic at the moment.
As to yoga, haven't seen much of it here. If you're keen on starting a general interest/support and conversation thread the All Saints thread is probably your best bet. In terms of Christian spirituality - well - that's all over the board.

Welcome The Sainted Percy. Nice name! Sounds like you'll have alot of fun in Ecclesiantics discussing all thing liturgy and may spend time in Dead Horses discussion the ordination of women. ![[Biased]](wink.gif)
