The 14th was the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, so I expect that it was yesterday.

We do indeed, thank you! Which meant that my first Sunday Mass homilies have been for our patroness's Solemnity.

The MW reports are lovely keepsakes.

As to the questions about Luce ([looch], as we affectionately call it), the seminary celebrates it every Thursday night while Notre Dame is in session. Professed seminarians take turns presiding and preaching and we normally get the chapel comfortably full (not as packed as the one reported on) with students from campus. As seminarians can't preach the homily at Mass, this is a nice way for us to get preaching and presiding practice with a large congregation. It's also a good way to invite the campus community to the seminary. For Final Vows and Ordination weekend, we open with a Friday night luce and the profesandi or ordinandi select priests or brothers who have been important in their road to that point to preside, sing and read.

Common misconception actually, Uncle Pete! I always get well-wishes on the 14th and it's a wonderful feast, so why not, but our patronal feastday is indeed Our Lady of Sorrows.
