Thread: Salt and Light ministries church near Greenwich?

My friend's daughter has just arrived at Greenwich university and is looking for a church to join. (Ours isn't close enough or her style of worship, hence the question) She is involved with a Salt and Light Ministries church in the north and would like to find somewhere of the same type or similar down here to try. She is living right near the Cutty Sark!
Does anyone have any suggestions of churches which might be suitable, either Salt and Light churches or something similar? (Better still, anyone go to a church of that style who would be willing to look out for her if she were to go?)

If you ask this in Eccles, they appear to know the location of every church known to woman or man.

I've taken the advice of the Eccles hosts, and they agree this is more theirs than ours, so hang on to your birettas!

There's an NFI church in Catford. And various spin-offs from what is or was Icthus in Greenwich.

Given that Salt and Light base their statement of beliefs on the Evangelical Alliance, I would assume they would be willing to look at other EA churches. In which case they have an excellent search facility you can use. If that link works right you should get 28 churches within a 2 mile radius.

From my reading Salt and Light seem fairly mainstream independent evangelical?
If i'm guessing correctly about this, then I could suggest "The Bear" church in Deptford, which is a ten minute walk from the Cutty Sark. I don't attend there myself as I run another church in the area, but I know the leaders there and could ask them to look out for her if she wanted to try it. They are a friendly and fairly relaxed evangelical church with plenty of families and younger people.
The church has an unusual name because it grew up meeting in what used to be an old pub called "The Brown Bear".
Pm me if that's at all helpful or interesting and I can put her in touch with some folks there.

There's a lovely evangelical church in Plumstead called The Slade Evangelical Church. The pastor is Wes McNabb and it's a very vibrant growing active church. It's a bus ride from Greenwich.
I'm not a member (being a Catholic) but I know a fair few people there and it sounds just the place for your friends daughter.

Did a bit of reading and this might help, especially the shipmates more knowledgeable of Charismatic Churches.
It is Restorationist Stream 1 rather than Stream 2, so more conservative on cultural involvement according to Wikipedia article on founder. It is also fairly strongly into God as relational but intriguingly from my reading seems to see this as applying to a hierarchical leadership culture rather that to a quasi-monasticism the way the Jesus Army does. They originate from within the Baptist Union.

Thank you so much for all your help and advice - Piglet was right, you're a remarkably helpful lot! I have sent a link to this thread to the young lady in question so she can have a good read at it before Sunday. When you're so far from home for the first time, it's so helpful to find a church where you feel at home.
