I know that insanity and politics go hand in hand but I think Oklahoma may have taken the cake with this one. A challenger to Frank Lucas has now declared he won the primary vote because Frank Lucas(the incumbent) who received the most votes is really dead. So who has been representing Oklahoma in congress?

Gosh, rugasaw, that's bizarre! Sounds like Murray is top dog in the sore loser category.

So, is this what you want to discuss? Without becoming game-like, of course.

Sure, why not. And if it becomes a game like competition of who has the biggest idiot/sore loser then you rightly should move it to the Circus.

"Lucas could not immediately be reached for comment."
Aha! Perhaps they should have used a medium.
Still, it is a nice twist on the standard Chicago political maneuver of having dead people vote for you...

I enjoyed the specificity of his claim that the Representative was executed on a white stage in Ukraine. Clearly he saw proof of this execution; otherwise, how would he have known the color of the stage?
And, you know, in Ukraine they execute US Congress members all the time, and the US responds by substituting a body double. Not by being outraged in any discernible way.
Could your Representative be a body double too? Better check to see if s/he's ever been to Ukraine!

TBH, You don't have a good pedigree with politicians. Is it something about Alaska that turns them batshit crazy?

My best guess is the majority of voters see it as one huge lark and vote in the people that will make everyone laugh the most.

Why people choose to elect Rob Ford is a bit of a mystery to me.

Not sure if this would be geographically possible, but imagine that London gets forcibly merged with a bunch of adjacent UKIP-voting suburbs.
Then imagine that in a subsequent mayoral election, the London-hating suburbs put forth one of their most beloved yobs as a candidate, while the left-wing standard bearer is a widely despised former Labour cabinet minister, who even the left don't wanna vote for. Oh, and he's openly gay.
Throw in a minor far-left candidate to split the left-wing vote, and an incumbent council dogged by allegations of profligacy, and you've pretty much got what happened in Toronto in 2010.
Some minor differences, eg. Rob Ford, unlike the UKIP, gets significant support from conservative immigrant groups, many of them from the third world. And Smitherman was actually a Liberal, though they are probably roughly comparable to post-Blair Labour these days.

Stubby is too smart for congress.
(hmm. international news does seem to make AK politics look really bizarre. )
for the record, not that anybody really cares - Stubby was never elected. the news reporter got that wrong. We just started calling him the mayor. Talkeetna isn't an incorporated city, we never had a mayor.
but yes, the other way sounds way cooler.

I think there are many cases where the neighborhood cat would make a better mayor than the human holding the office. YMMV
