I don't know if it's appropriate to start yet another thread about a recently deceased Hollywood great. Feel free to move this to Heaven or another place, should need be.

* * * * * * *

Rest in peace, the great Lauren Bacall.

Remembered fondly from her first appearances with Humphrey Bogart and the films they made together, and other films after his early death.

quote:
Her first film performance, as the tough and tender dame in To Have and Have Not, became one of the most powerful debuts in film history.

The film featured her legendary lines: "You don't have to act with me, Steve. You don't have to say anything and you don't have to do anything. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow." (from the BBC link)

What a woman! What an actress! What charisma and cool, powerful, intelligent acting (I find)! What a voice!

Looking forward to watching some of her films again, those with or without Bogie. Amazing.

Respect. R.I.P.

She was my pin-up girl! I longed to have hair like hers!!

But a great, great actress. Long missed, but not forgotten.

She was fabulous and she remained fabulous - a great actress and a great loss.

I remember her from one of Barry Norman's Hollywood Greats films, speaking about the death of Humphrey Bogart - very moving.

She was also brave enough to look straight down the camera lens and say that she married Jason Robards because she was 'Lonely and thought it would help her bear the grief of losing HB' - devastating honesty.

Mrs Grouch and I watched "To have and have not" last night. Wow. I had forgotten just how explosive she was in that film. Every time she appears, you can't take your eyes off of her. She literally defines the phrase "smouldering sexuality".

Just found this 52-minute interview from 1994 on YouTube: link. And I'm going to order 'To have or not to have'! As others said: wow! [Tear] [Cool]

One of my favorite actresses, from childhood on. Looks, voice, movement, style. "Key Largo".

Saw her in a live performance of Wonderful Town once. She was a bit old for the role, but it didn't matter, she was wonderful.

Alas, her 1980 appearance on the Dick Cavett Show is not online. Take my word for it, it was a great one. She was, as Bogie would have said, a classy dame.

She also appeared in a film of the kids' book, "From The Mixed-Up Files Of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler". She was Mrs. F, and perfect for the part.
