Lamb Chopped has offered up some prayer requests on my behalf, but I'm finally back my own self, in the virtual flesh.

Every other year, it seems, I end up with cancer bombing out Christmas: 2010 was the original, stage 3 inflammatory breast carcinoma. 2012 was the little one, an early-stage breast cancer dealt with via surgery.

Now the first one has returned, like a bad movie sequel: Stage 4, the Revenge. It's metatasized to my sacrum, the left half of which looks like one of those wind-sculpted rock formations in the Utah desert.

My docs think we can "manage" it, with radiation, new pills, and "bone builders" delivered via infusion. No chemo this time, for which I give thanks.

I ask your prayers for strength (physical, emotional, spiritual), for success in the treatment, and for a continued sense of humor.

Thank you!

b

Praying for all!! And love and welcome back to Rossweisse!!

Speaking of family holiday trepidation, I have finally decided to send cards, with a letter inside explaining who I am (which will include the fact that, yes, I'm gay--I'm 47 and I have no intent to dilly-dally around with that as if it's a game) to the various relatives, mainly cousins, whom I haven't really gotten to know, and who my parents (now dead seven years) would have been the ones to send cards to. I'm not sure how the Baptist minister uncle in Kentucky will react (... I can make a guess...) nor the other relatives on that side of the family, but, well, I don't know what to expect, but I really want to make at least one real stab at getting connected to my biological family, even if it doesn't work out. Maybe I'll get a nice response from some of them, maybe I'll get hate mail telling me where I will go when I die. No idea. Nervous but I really want to make at least one try... [Help]

Cubby's health seems to be, I think, improving. But definitely not happy with this doctor/insurance thing.

And of course for my and all students, and those who teach them, as at least here next week is Finals Week. [Eek!]

Oh, and... a rekindling of my faith. Not that I've stopped believing or anything like that, but now that I am 47, and I haven't accomplished the sorts of things I thought I would have, and I have more of a sense of my impending mortality... I find myself troubled by the fact that all of that bothers me. It didn't used to. When I was a young Christian and first in college, I couldn't wait to die and be with Jesus. Have I become so rooted in this world that I've lost that desire? I don't think I have, but I think it needs to be rekindled a bit. The whole "we had a house and it got foreclosed" thing (now, what, 5 years ago?) weighs on me as if it's a personal moral failing, rather than as "stuff of this world" to move on from. Please pray.

Praying through the thread. For Ross, for Chast, for all in need of healing, strength, and peace.

Asking all your prayers for a boy called Tom, the son of a dear friend, who, while working as an apprentice tree surgeon, fell from the top of a tree a few days ago and broke his back: surgery and rehab await him, and none of us knows what the future will hold in the way of mobility.
