Please pray for the residents of North and South Carolina, who will probably get fifteen inches of rain today. Aside from rivers and streams overflowing, there will be trees uprooted from the sodden ground.

Pray also for us in Virginia. We got four inches of rain on Tuesday, and we're supposed to get another five. The biggest risk is trees being uprooted.

Thank you for your recent prayers for my wife R.

To update: she is home from hospital with a wheelbarrow of antibiotics, and a diet where anything interesting needs to be strained out of food before serving!

She is still fragile and in (so far controllable) pain, spending most of each day in bed. We see the surgeon again in three weeks, at which point we foresee further tests being done. Your continuing prayers would be much appreciated.

Offeiriad - I was so grateful that Mr. S's abdominal misery turned out to be appendicitis, because at least the appendix doesn't grow back.

Friends, please pray for me. This evening I saw the woman who bullied me in the workplace for two years, and who was intrumental in my second redundancy.

This was ten years ago, and she is now working in marketing, the job I did for her, of which she at that time had no understanding, and in which she was determined I had zero competence.

I sat through the first half of the concert wondering: should I tell her I've forgiven her? The opportunity didn't present itself, and in the end I just had a lovely evening with friends at a wonderful concert. So much stuff has been flung up into the air though. I am putting it all down at the foot of the cross.....

God is good, but His ways are so strange. [Votive]

Thanks for your prayers. Here in the Alleghany mountains we only got an inch of rain. We do have a high wind warning. With the saturated ground, it's likely that trees will go over.

South Carolina got a huge amount of rain, and it's predicted that they will get another fifteen inches in the next few days. Please keep them in your prayers.

What is it reasonable to expect from church? Is it reasonable to expect anything?

I went to church this morning for the first time in three weeks. I missed the last two Sundays because I wasn't feeling very well and I just couldn't be bothered to make the effort. I hate not going because I feel so lonely just sitting at home by myself. But I hate going now because I feel just as lonely.

I want some sort of connection. With God. With other people. But I don’t get it. All I get is loneliness and frustration. I can’t see the point any more. Everyone else seems to think it’s such a wonderful church, but I just don’t seem to be on the same wavelength as anybody else there.

It's go along, sing a few songs, have a cup of coffee and go home again without engaging with God or anyone else and that’s it until next Sunday. What’s the point?

I know it’s my fault. I've never been any good at talking to people, I've never known how to make friends. I make people feel uncomfortable. I'm too old to change now.

Don't know what to do. Hate Sundays these days.

[Votive] for all in need, especially North East Dad, Mad Cat's CD, those affected by the floods, and especially Abigail.

There's absolutely no shame in feeling that your present church doesn't suit you: when I hit my teens (a very long time ago [Hot and Hormonal] ) I felt like that about the church I'd been brought up in, and found a different one (which happened to be the local cathedral).

I've suggested this before to people who are feeling a bit disaffected, but don't want to give up altogether - if you can go to a Cathedral choral evensong (Sunday or a week-day one), you can be as anonymous as you wish. In my experience, cathedrals are welcoming but not intimidating; you can just let the beauty of the building, the music and the liturgy inspire you, without fear of being buttonholed and asked to join the Altar Guild ... [Big Grin]

[Votive] that you find somewhere that suits you and where you feel welcome.

Pleh.

The grant proposal was rejected.

Since this is the first one I've written, and I did so with little or no training or support, and it still got the approval of my boss (since it had to be submitted in his name, as I'm not senior enough) and he's expert in evaluating research quality, I don't think I'm going to get disgraced over this. But I'd prefer not to be put to shame, if there's any risk of that.
