Oh Gamiel! Isn't starting a pond war with Canada a little bit like hitting a labradoodle puppy with a rolled up newspaper?

It feels like it to me.

And as for the other colony-to-be-reclaimed to their south, well they have no manners nor etiquette to speak of so they are more akin to a mongrel trying to best the labradoodle. Neither know their place but a responsible owner like Great Britain needs to keep them from fighting.

At least they both speak English, except for the Frenchist bits that are quite beyond help.

Now Deano has appeared I am going to apply for a Green Card or to attempt to cross the Atlantic in a kayak in a desperate bid to reach the welcome shores of New Foundland.

Please accept my apologies O Canada, O Inited States, that this isle of Albion harbours such fart-arses as he.

A Green Card won't do you much good if you're landing on the only piece of territory commonly referred to as Newfoundland.

The key word there, Stetson was 'or'.

I said I was thinking of applying for a Green Card (ie to apply for residency in the USA) OR to kayak over to Newfoundland, which isn't part of the USA.

Read for comprehension.

I was referring to Green Cards (ie for the USA) and to New Foundland (ie Canada), collectively making up the North American landmass as a whole.

You are not so much as fart-arse (or fart-ass) as a smart-arse (smart-ass) and you misunderstood me.

I claim no responsibility for that.

The blame is entirely your own.

And Gama, the whole reason I was having so much fun calling Stetson stupid the other day is that I fully realize he is about 8000 times smarter than me. That's what made it a head-rush to call him out. And what made it funny.

Someone who is way more impressed with their own intelligence than they should be taking repeated shots at someone else's intelligence has a certain... Poignancy.

Eh?

[Confused]

I don't get this. I have a mildly Hellish dig at Sober Preacher's Kid and a side-swipe at Stetson when explaining what I meant by the Green Card and Newfoundland reference ie. that I am fully aware that I wouldn't need a Green Card in Newfoundland - even assuming I would be able to reach it by kayak ... and this is what I get ...

[Biased]

As for Stetson being a heck of a lot cleverer (smarter) than you are ... nah, you're selling yourself short. Don't be intimidated by his head gear.

His intelligence isn't up for debate. Every post of his ( that isn't about high school curriculum) is drenched with well-informed, well- articulated opinion. ( Usually.) Of course I respect that. Intelligent people respect intelligence.

I dunno, it's come up before, when I see someone bouncing around throwing out the same word over and over-- in your case, stupid, stupid, stupid, which coincidentally is a big favorite with my four year olds-- I get this overwhelming need to know what it is about that word that is so special. Especially since I percieve you as gargantuan an intellect as he, strictly in terms of obvious education and practiced discussion. Why the hell you pick him to play King of Stupid Mountain with, I don't get. Why I feel the irresistable urge to bust your chops about it, I don't get either. We're an interesting species.

But mostly I'm self-medicating with wiseassery due to boredom and worry about a family member. For some reason your weird ass slap fest with Stetson just gave me the rhetorical equivalent of funeral giggles.( his hat? Seen a million of him. Much bigger ones, too.)

As for SPK-- I figured y'all had bitchslapped him into the naughty corner by page 2. Too easy.

Apologies, I was all fingers and thumbs on that previous post ...

I must admit, it hadn't occurred to me that there was some kind of repetitive thing going on here ... I made a few brush-off comments in response to a challenge from Stetson and that was about it ...

I was surprised it elicited any particular reaction.

I don't have an 'issue' with Stetson and I enjoy reading his posts. But he took a bit of a poke at me on the Green Card post - which was worded ambiguously - and I had a few pops back.

It's not as if I'm following around the decks and boards and chipping in after every post he makes. Why would I want to do that?

[Confused]

I could have made some half-assed (or half-arsed) wisecrack in response to plenty of other posts, and probably have done. I don't know why you're making such a big deal about this particular one.

Yes indeed, as well as The Caribbean.

I was thinking of North America as that's where I'd make landfall if I was able to steer my coracle or kayak due west.

I rememember being surprised when I heard that New York is on the same latitude as Madrid.

Had Shipmates been posting from Brazil, Honduras, Guatamala and so on I would have included them.

The main point, of course, is that I have to share this archipelego off the coast of mainland Europe with deano.

Worth risking Atlantic swells and the United Church That Nobody's Heard Of or landfall on the Land That Irony Forgot ... (although that's not strictly true, there are narrow coastal strips of Irony on the Atlantic North East and Pacific North West ...

I included Brazil because I knew you post from there, Le Roc, and your comments and insights from there are very welcome too.

My point was that the discussion so far has concentrated on that place north of the 49th Parallel and that other one immediately underneath it ...

And the sharper eyed among you ( [Roll Eyes] ) will have noticed that Brazil isn't in Central America either - the isthmus of Panama - the bit with the 'small countries' that Mousethief alluded to that connects the North and South American landmasses.

So, before someone takes me to task, those small countries MT was alluding to are:

Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua, Salvador, Costa Rica and Panama ...

It would be great to hear from any of them.

If there's a United Church of Costa Rica as well as United Church of Canada, then let's hear about it ...

I cannot expect people to believe “
Jesus loves me, this I know” of they don’t believe “Kelly loves me, this I know.”

I do my best.

Meanwhile, your President is over here doing his best against Boris and on behalf of Dave.

I won't be hitching a lift back, so you can all relax.

The definition of the continents tends to vary depending on where in the world you live. This is particularly true of the Americas. Please take this into account while giving each other geography lessons.

Technology has brought us all closer together. Turns out a lot of the people you meet as a result are complete idiots.

It's really not that complicated. There are only places: Canada, and where they wish they were Canada.

Yes, I think I'd wish I was Canada if I lived in the US right now.

Come back SPK, lead us all to the Promised Land.

Coincidentally, this week's episode of The Good Wife had much fun with Canadians taking a dim view of the USA.

Yeah, could be right. How can anyone hope to compete with the wonder that is Ottawa? Or...oh bother, forget the sarcasm.
All I really need do is post this.

But dear orfeo, he didn't say "continent" he said "land mass."
