I'm afraid this may be a rather long post, but I could use some prayer right now.

This probably wouldn't be a big deal to most of you, but to me it's pretty huge. When I was a child I had a very unpleasant and painful experience with an unfriendly, hairy fingered dentist and ever since then I've had a very real phobia of dental treatment. Through my teens I reluctantly continued regular check ups, but once I was old enough not to have to do what my parents told me, I simply stopped visiting dentists.

Fast forward [mumble mumble] years and my teeth and gums are now in such a poor state, I've finally gritted my teeth (pardon the pun) and made an appointment to see the dentist. I've been psyching myself up for this for some time and kept finding excuses not to do it, but today I finally ran out of excuses. I really had to muster all the courage I had just to walk through the door. The receptionist was very friendly and understanding when I explained my predicament.

The appointment is on Monday 7th and already I've got that slightly queasy feeling and racing heart that I used to get as a kid when I knew I had a dentists appointment coming up.

I would welcome your continued prayers. I'm still feeling awful. Work has been exceptionally busy this week which has taken my mind off "the other thing" but as soon as I remember my stomach ties up in knots and I want to cry.

I think Sunday is going to be very difficult.

(sorry about the lack of details)

[Votive] for all in need, especially Spike, Abigail and Raptor Eye's friend.

Spike, I totally sympathise - I only go to a dentist when the pain becomes unbearable, and once I've been mended I don't darken their doors again until next time.

Best wishes from a fellow-wimp. [Smile]

I can so totally understand plain, ordinary dental-phobia and add other stuff into the mix and I can see that as a HUGE deal.

Spike, I also had dental phobia and left it a couple of decades until there was an emergency before I went back.

I found that procedures and attitudes had changed in the intervening time and while I can't say it's how I'd choose to spend my spare time, it was so much better than I remembered that I actually didn't dread having a second appointment. I hope the same will be true for you too. Good luck.

[Votive] prayers continuing for all the intentions here.

And a few requests on my part...

My grandmother continues to have falls - two more in the past three days. She is alright, but the trend worries me. [Votive]

My sister-in-law's father, R., is home from hospital, but still very much in need of prayers. [Votive]

An old friend of mine, G.R., was taken to hospital this morning. [Votive]
(Her daugher said in a text message that "It's probably the same thing again" - but we don't know what that means.)

Please pray for the town of Leeton in country NSW and the Scott family in particular. Some time ago, Stephanie Scott was at the school at the weekend preparing lessons for a substitute teacher who was to take her classes while Stephanie was on her honeymoon in a few days. She was stalked by a cleaner at the school, raped, tortured, killed and her body burnt.

The town gathered closely around her family in support. Her father was retired but had been the High School principal in another nearby country town. Just three weeks ago, her killer was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

Today, her dad was killed by a falling tree as he cleared land.
