OK, this is a question from a techno-idiot, so save your derisive laughter until after I leave the room.
I've been approved for membership on a couple of boards, but how do I enter them? Must I be mailed the links? Are there other means? Thanks in advance.
(Exits room to peels of laughter....)

When I joined a private board I was notified by the Host that I was approved, but she couldn't send me the link until final approval from Simon. Once that happened, she sent me the link.
No secret handshake was needed.

Basically, the private board host has to send you the link to access it. I'm sure they'll get round to it soon!

We we're splitting our sides on private boards.

Just wondering if the rule "Only shipmates (members of the public boards with 50+ posts) can apply to join the private boards" still holds? Pangolin Guerre is an Apprentice.

The Shipmate rule exists so that private board hosts can judge whether they want someone to join their board, based on a history of public posts. Exceptions under some circumstances are possible, at the discretion of the private board hosts and the public board admins.
