I suppose so - but Enoch raises an interesting point about colours.
ISTM that most cars are either silver, white, or dark blue/black. How about making it compulsory for electric cars - and no others - to be day-glo orange, baby-poo yellow, or even malachite green? They'd stand out....

I remember trams with bells in Lisbon,operated by a kick-button underneath the driver's foot. Very good for getting rid of his annoyance when a car pulled out in front of the tram.
They still have them, but now the sound is electronic, not a real bell!

Point taken re colours.
I suggested tram gongs earlier on, but would the visually-impaired know from which direction the sound was coming?
Some emergency vehicles in the UK have tried directional 'white noise' in addition to (or instead of) the usual blues-and-twos, on the basis that it was much easier to locate the source of the sound (important in a busy street, with traffic and pedestrians).
White Noise Sirens
It never seemed to catch on, at least not round here.

That's 18 years ago, and with the sirens they use, you still can't tell what direction the sound is coming from. Until today, I thought it was just me.

Given the difficulties in making electric cars noticeable to peeps with various challenges, ISTM that the overall best solution is to somehow completely segregate traffic (including cyclists!) from pedestrians.
I know that this is probably impossible, but lots more could doubtless be done in this direction.
Just for clarification, many European towns and cities have areas restricted to pedestrians/trams/trolleybuses/buses only. This is IMHO a Good Thing, but have any major problems arisen - and been documented - regarding accidents in such areas to those with visual/audio impairments?
