Yes!

Our mostly useless PM now can wave this result in the face of his party's hard right, who he has been completely unable to control.

Now, to make sure the legislation does not die the death of a thousand qualifications.

So it turns out that the anti-same-sex marriage faction was right after all; same sex marriage does destroy opposite-sex marriages:

quote:
Australia’s former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce, who opposed equal marriage because “every child has a right to know her or his mother and father” has impregnated his mistress behind his wife’s back.
That sounds very athletic! What if his wife had turned around at the wrong moment?

I am sure this kind of behavior was completely unknown in Australia prior to the legalization of same-sex unions. Except in this case where same-sex marriage was able to retroactively go back in time and force Joyce to have this affair before the referendum passed.

Normally I don't think the private lives or sexual exploits of politicians are relevant for public comment, but I make an exception for moralizing hypocrites who try to restrict other people's romantic lives.

Indeed. Had this been public before the by-election it's pretty unlikely that Joyce would have been returned. It's a conservative area socially as well as politically.
