Every year since I moved here, I forget how awkward it is to wrap presents at a circular table.

I have a small square table on balcony but it is currently 35° there and still climbing. As maximum is usually reached between 3-4 pm, there is almost six hours yet to go. I guess it will end up around 40°.

Just as warm up here in inland Port Stephens. Taking refuge inside

Went quad bike riding on the sand dunes yesterday. Was a good bit of fun. I've walked them...the bike gave a different perspective. And covered more ground. And run by an Indigenous not for profit so a good cause too.

Merry Christmas all.

Just dropped in between preparing strawberries for Christmas dessert and popping a few gifts into envelopes for family gathering tomorrow - dropped in, I mean, to say happy Christmas and may you all enjoy the temperature you most enjoy.

Huia beat me in asking to identify the other Peter Stewart – wasn't the wife of the Eastbourne one a journalist? I had her card at one stage but can't remember in what capacity I had a link to her.

Working towards a December 31 assignment deadline, feeling tired & unChristmassy but snacking on roast cashew nuts and chunks of ice-cold watermelon. Homemade blueberry ice-cream in the freezer, gifts (badly) wrapped, house filled with blue hydrangeas.

Hoping everyone here has a peaceful and happy Christmas Day.

The outside BBQ is for the prawns. [Big Grin]

My family long ago gave up on hot meal at Christmas. Family gathering at Maroota on outskirts of Sydney was blessedly cool, about 24° at most. Chicken in a cold curry sauce with mango, delicious home smoked duck, ham, loads of salad and lots more goodies.

I am finding it hard to deal with the idea that my eldest grandson is now able to go into a bottleshop and buy his grandmother some wine for his present to her. He matched that with some very dark chocolate.

On the other hand, one DIL did give a crap and gave me a box of bamboo loo rolls. She gave her mother some last Christmas and I was not surprised to see a box delivered to me. Along with a donation in my name to a charity.

My BIL cooked the leg of ham on the BBQ but the turkey, gravy, with all the trimmings was cooked in the kitchen. I LOVE the fact that us Aussies keep up the traditions of our ancestors, a reminder that all of us except Aborigines are transplants.

I love Trove, it is a treasure box.. A couple of weeks ago I was looking for family members buried at Woranora Cemetery at Sutherland. I found a notice in SMH of silver wedding of two of them. In notices like engagements etc. also a notice of Gospel meeting at Brethren group which I married into many years down the track.

Well yes. Whilst I did cook the ducks in the oven, we didn't do the English Christmas dinner, all the rest was definitely for summer, being prawns, chilled salads and cold desserts - but the duck was worth the hot kitchen. I've never had the big roast meal as a Christmas tradition; I grew up with the cold buffet lunch, which meant that Christmas Eve was the stinking hot kitchen day instead [Roll Eyes]

Very envious.

Easter is almost here. Or so Coles tells me with its hot cross buns on display.

Had a relaxing Christmas in Port Stephens. Now back home in Albury and preparing for a warmish week with it ending at 40C. Bit warmer than the Curlys are experiencing.

ooh look at that...I am no longer planked. A bit involuntary as it was a technical hitch, so I could only lurk over Christmas. I felt like the Ghost of Christmasses Past. Anyway, thanks Loth! Just in time to wish all a HNY and it will be interesting to see if I will be able to access an oar in the New Year.

All ok at Chez Banner, and we will gather at the nursing home tomorrow to see my aged P totter into her 100th year on this planet. 2018 will be a significant year for us.

A good friend is spending tonight waitressing on board one of the vessels (a whale watching boat owned by her son) out on Sydney Harbour, so I will be thinking of her when video clips of the fireworks are shown.

Cheers to yous all...

We spent much of a January a few years ago in Vienna, fortunately in a couple of well-heated serviced apartments (Dlet and his then girlfriend were with us). While we enjoyed the experience, none of us would like to have a January like that every year.
