I was gently (and rightly) rebuked in Ecclesiantics by Seasick for prolonging a tangent. I agree that it was totally irrelevant to the subject of the thread, and also that it belonged in Dead Horses.

Sebby had picked me up on a comment about supposed Anglican tolerance which I wanted to clarify (mainly by agreeing with him: I was not picking a fight). I didn't think it merited a whole thread of its own, and certainly didn't want to prolong the discussion. What is the best thing to do in such circumstances? [1]just ignore the remark and refrain from responding; [2] start a new thread in DH or wherever, knowing that it would not go anywhere; or [3]apologise for the tangent but go ahead anyway.

To clarify on that thread, the tangent in question began with various posts on January 5th. There were some tangential exchanges, unremarked upon by the hosts, and the thread returned to topic.

Today's exchange seemed to resurrect that tangent together with the introduction of a Dead Horse topic so I made a general post to rein that tangent in. It wasn't aimed specifically at you Angloid - it would have had your name in if it were.

I didn't take it personally, seasick, so don't worry! But my question still stands.

The post you replied to was on the subject of the C of E's recent vote on women bishops. There's an open thread on it in Dead Horses so you could have posted on that and linked Sebby to your post, or you could have pm'd him to say you agreed with him. Otherwise if you know a host doesn't want something on a thread as it's a tangent and you for whatever reason don't think it's worth its own thread, it's usually just as well to drop it as not worth bothering about in my experience.
cheers

Or you could start a thread anyway and if it proves not interesting to many people it will soon be on page two and no harm done.
