I have all manner of issues with this article. As might be expected. It still relies greatly on interpretation as opposed to dismissing the idea of Genesis being literal. He uses "fact" far too often. Their are no facts as such within religious tomes. There are statements of belief which may be true. Some of his cited authors separate man from evolution. This is patently wrong. This approach is problematic on a grand scale.

I'm afraid he lost me in the first paragraph with this:
quote: The Orthodox, with a great joy of relief, have welcomed these [Protestant creationist] books to their cathedrals and libraries in as much as Darwinism was cultivated in the Soviet schools and institutes.
The Soviet Union actively suppressed Darwinism in favor of Lysenkoism. While it's nice that the deacon can go on at length about the theological differences between Protestant and Orthodox beliefs, it would be nice if he had at least a minimal understanding of what Darwinian evolution is actually about.

It's interesting, and the approach is somewhat refreshing in an Orthodox perspective. Sadly I think he falls down on what appears (although I may have mis-read him) to be a bit of generalization on 'Protestant' thought. He ignores the theology of 'Protestant's' biggest contenders - Karl Barth's theology of creation in relation to das Nichtige (sometimes called the 'theology of radical evil'). Seems to me there is a whole lot in common with das Nichtige and some of the ideas presented by this Orthodox priest.
