I have recently discovered online chess and wondered whether any shipmates frequent such haunts. I am an enthusiastic but not very good player (would estimate myself somewhere between 1000 and 1200 ELO, generally worse the faster the game is played). Any masters or grandmasters out there?

I play on Game Knot as a_booth_1 . I'm about the same standard as you (about 1000 ELO, but have been slowly climbing for a while now). Always up for a game with some shipmates!

I played chess in grammar school: don't now. No time. Favourite play: Queen's Gambit!

I have been playing as TurquoiseTastic on chess.com. Blitz at 5 minutes per person is pretty brutal! I find it astonishing how many people like to play 2-minute or even 1-minute games. I really need at least 15 minutes to feel that I'm thinking rather than reacting. And even a 30-minute-each game is fairly rapid to my way of thinking.
On the plus side, blitz means you can have a game in a 15 minute scrap of time... and there's always someone willing to play...

I play chess online at playchess.com every now and then, and am a regular at my local chess club. Nowhere near being any level of Master though! Chess is awesome.
