The death notice appears today of Ida Elizabeth Jenkins, aged 98. Many Australians of younger generations may have little idea of her work with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

She was an actress appearing in many different plays but was at the forefront of the development of children's programmes for the ABC . She was one of the presenters of the radio programme Kindergarten of the Air and was one of the developers and presenters of the hugely popular post WWII programme, the Argonauts

I remember hearing her in various presentations but will best remember her reading stories on the Kindergarten programme and her interaction with Mac and Jimmy and Phidias on the Argonauts.

Good rowing, sail well,

Lothlorien, (Thalia 33)

Yes, I saw that in the SMH today (the Death Notices are the most reliable part of that). Not sad, because she reached a great age, but brings back memories of 60 years ago for us.
