Seriously, you close it down because it isn't phrased right?
Gypsies vs Muslims thread
And you wonder why people like me don't trust the left to engage in debate.
Was it too robust Eliab?

Seriously? You posted advocating the mass burial of 1/6 of the world's population, but it's the fault of 'the left' that your thread was locked?

And that's the best you can do to avoid dealing with the issue? A muslim family have objected to a gypsy being buried close to one of their relatives and the best you cam do is to resort to Godwins Law to avoid debating it?

You might invited discussion, but instead you told us what you think others think while being trollingly inflammatory, viz,:

What I'm interested in is what side the angst ridden socialists will come down on.

That's long and the short of it. If you'd started it in Hell, you may have got away with it, but that sort of rant isn't suitable for Purgatory as all you seemed to be doing was trying to start a fight and/or vent your own prejudice rather than engage in any debate.
You've been around long enough to know how the boards work and what goes where. We're giving you two weeks off to go and think about it.

Noting that deano will be absent for a while, but by way of explanation for anyone else who wants to know why I closed the thread...
I thought it was unsuitable for Purgatory because Purgatory is meant to be for serious debate. The "issue" raised in the linked article was a suitable theme for discussion - to what extent did a Muslim family have a reasonable expectation of their deceased family member being buried in proximity to other Muslims only, and what, if anything, should be done remedy the situation if that expectation is disappointed. However the OP was not in my view calculated to invite discussion because:
a) The OPer plainly does not care how dead Muslims are disposed of (I'm assuming, to his credit, that the "all in one mass grave" comment was restricted to dead people, and not, as it could reasonably have been interpreted, a wish to see all Muslims and gypsies buried) causing me to doubt that there was a sincere desire to discuss the subject;
b) The OPer had alreay impugned the good faith of anyone who supported either brereaved family by suggesting that it could only be due to a prejudice in favour of "minorities". Impugning the good faith of one's opponents before they have even expressed an opinion is not a good way to begin a discussion;
c) The whole post drips with contempt.
I didn't see any good discussion coming out of it. Anyone genuinely interested in discussing the actual issue would be welcome to start a new thread for that purpose.
I have no idea what I have done to identify myself with "the left". I do not self-identify as leftist, not that this matters in the slightest. It was not a factor in my decision that deano's views might be described as 'politically incorrect' - the fact that the thread was a non-starter for actual discussion, which is the purpose of Purgatory, was enough.
My post closing the thread did not refer to any commandment breach - again, having decided to close it for reasons of unsuitability for Purgatory, I didn't think it necessary to make that call. Given the subsequent Admin decision, I conclude that I was, if anything, insufficiently robust.

Given deano's posting history, I regard this as a highly charitable assumption.

Comments based on deano's posting history would be more suitable for Hell than the Styx. And, at present, as he's not around to respond not even there.

Eliab--
I sometimes get the impression that deano's definition of "left" is anyone who disagrees with his opinions.

It's less than 2 months since I saw the body of my (Muslim) father lowered into its final resting place.
Yes, we all have to work on not being easily offended. However, I am very grateful to Eliab for his decision here.

I've skimmed the Daily Mail article, and the linked page from the cemetery.
I wonder if there would be room for discussion of cemeteries and funeral practices (generally, multi-faith, multi-cultural...)?

Well, Eliab has basically already indicated the answer to this is yes.
