All of a sudden ...

The abstract becomes concrete.

I've had a contractual offer from a publishing house to commission a book about my friend's charity and the principles/issues involved in its particular area of work ...

My friend is happy to pay me to ghost-write it and I'm working out timescales and rates according to my estimated word-count. It'd be mates-rates as it's for a charitable cause but they do recognise that I need to eat.

I've been given various figures on going-rates in the UK. I don't really want to discuss figures in public but if anyone has any advice or suggestions on a reasonable rate then please could they PM me with some thoughts?

I'd be open for other non-pecuniary comments and discussion on this thread, which follows on from the more general publishing pitfalls, pratfalls and possibilities one I started a few weeks ago.

Thanks in advance.
