On behalf of the All Saints' hosts and the rest of the Ship, we welcome you aboard! This is the place to make your presence known, so that we may offer our greetings and advice to all our new members.
We ask that you make yourself familiar with our version of the "10 Commandments", which are the basic guidelines that you agreed to follow when you registered. You may also want to check the FAQ's for more useful information.
Remember, each area of the Ship has its own rules and regulations, which you will find hyperlinked at the top of each board. They range from Heaven to Hell (literally!), and you'll want to familiarize yourself with them, especially here at the beginning of your "tour of duty".
Once again, welcome to the Ship. We wish you smooth sailing!

Hello, I'm fresh off the boat. (Curtseys and tosses bonbons.) Apart from a few years of attending Quaker meeting, I'm a longtime Anglican, although I'm going to a Presbyterian church these days. Is that even allowed?
Pleased to meet you all and happy new year.

Welcome Hail Mary. I'm also a long time Anglican attending a Presbytarian church. I remember when I made the switch the Principal of the Catholic school where I volunteer was a bit dubious that I would be 'allowed' to do this.
I hope you enjoy the Ship.

Hi, not a true Noob but returning to this wonderful ramshackle old tub after some time away. Was a lurker and (very) occasional poster for several years. I'm a lifelong Anglican, in a leadership role in a large-ish high-ish church, increasingly unsure what I actually believe, finding people who are sure increasingly scarey.

If you previously posted here, even if sparingly, I recommend that you check in with an Admin to sort things out so you won't inadvertently have two user accounts. That's rather frowned upon. (Sorry if I'm junior hosting, AS hosts.

I have missed the ship, I have great memories of housing a travelling meet at my old house, & receiving a glitter bomb from Erin. The greatest shock of all was when I discovered I had known Gambit IRL & had looked after him when he was younger.
It is good to be posting as opposed to reading. I found there is either total involvement in the ship or passive non-involvement. I might try & find a half way point.

I've only just found this somewhat obscurely hidden 'Welcome to Newbies' thread.
I have given the elbow to denominations and fundie forums, and am hoping this ship will fill the gap.
I would worship collectively with Quakers if I could find a group who didn't interrupt the 'spirit and truth' periods of silence with 'opinion'.
This is the better place for 'opinion' IMO.

Welcome to the Ship. I hope you enjoy the voyage. Check the Ten commandments, link above, and read the introduction to each of the boards to get a feel for the ethos of each board. Have a good time.
If you have trouble with inserting links or bold or similar, there is a thread in the Styx specifically to practise this. Most of us use it to check signatures and such things.
Have a good time.

I found the Ship a long time ago, and though have visited some other places I've never felt the need to look for somewhere else. And, though this may seem like a revolutionary concept to those people who seem glued to the screen of their phone, you can have 'silence' here anytime you want - just shut down your computer/phone, and come back later when you have listened to the spirit.

There's a (rather silly) reason for that particular signature, AB - in a Chinese buffet the other day my Better Half took some fruit salad with some rather unusual-looking red grapes in it, which turned out to be tomatoes.
eta: My understanding of the "alarm bells" reference is people who have been registered for a while, but haven't posted, but I'm open to correction.

Hi to all. I'm new to the board though a long time lurker.
I don't have any formal religious affiliation or any faith of my own. I'm an open-minded agnostic but very interested in spirituality and faith as I deal with these issues very much in my work as a nurse in an Oncology hospital which deals with end of life care on a daily basis.
This seems like a very lively community with a wide range of beliefs and opinions and a very open-minded approach to spiritual matters. I hope that I can contribute to the community positively and also draw on the range of knowledge and faiths on here to actively help my understanding of spirituality and faith.

Hello, good to see you. Is your "ex-Anglican" status good or bad? Sorry if it is bad, hurrah if it is good for you.

Hello, there, I'm back again, too. Not an Anglican. United Church of Canada, Lutheran background, but my parents were RCC and C of E, when mixing them was considered a poor idea.
I hesitate to admit that I'm back sort of by default. Beliefnet is no more, and my own UCC site was closed, and I'm finding places to talk amicably about religion hard to find these days, except for my Tuesday Night group, and one cannot live on Tuesday nights alone.
Hope I will develop into an active poster this time.

Hi Soprano Learning to Listen and welcome aboard our little cruise ship sailing the waters of Faith.
As I've said to others, please give a read through of the Ship's Ten Commandments and the FAQs - both linked at the top of every page.
Most importantly enjoy the voyage - and we hope to be learning from you, too!!

If you take a look at the FAQ and 10 Commandment pages (links at the top of the page) they should tell you everything you need to know about the Ship and its workings.

having read the bits about what SoF is about, it seems perfect for me to jump in and grab a paddle. Much unhappy with church these days! I was a sheltered little lad, but have been sort of going on a mental nature hike as far as the Bible and Christianity. I just don't want to screw up my kids in the same way my parents screwed me and my siblings. I'll invent new ways!

Hi.
I'm a long-time lurker and long-ago regular Shipmate, then sailing under the flag Foolhearty.
Much water under the bridge since then; I remember many names I see here, though you-all may not remember me. It's nice to be back.

I also remember Foolhearty, but welcome back Ohher.
I would second WW's advice to contact Admins if this is a new account. The old needs closing. Of course, if it is just a namechange, no problems.
Posted by Ohher (# 18607) on

Thanks, I have been in touch with Admins, and got assigned this new name (Oh, her!), which I kind of like and may stick with -- until / unless there's a Name Change Amnesty (if the Ship still has those). Nice to know (I think) some folks still remember Foolhearty.

I'm back! I was an active shipmate about 8 or 9 years ago under the name mysticlisa - but that name was attached to an email that no longer exists, and since I married, moved to a new town, and changed work, I'm pretty much a new person. Looking around I'm happy to recognize so many veteran members of the crew!
I am currently reading NT Wright's book Surprised by Hope and noticed an article he wrote for Ship of Fools... excellent article, and a reminder of how much fun and fellowship was to be found here.
I am particularly interested in conversations around the topic of pain. I am writing a book offering the perspective of someone living with the most painful condition known in modern medicine, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I was diagnosed 3 years ago -- and God has used the pain and losses in my life to teach and transform me. There are so many kinds of pain, and I believe God transforms and redeems it all.
I'm a spiritual director, a contemplative Christian, and find myself constantly looking for the balance point (if there is one) between my legalistic upbringing and the freedom we have in Christ. I look forward to learning and laughing with you all.

Welcome back. I am sorry to hear of your pain. I have seen one son suffer considerably in excruciating pain for months and months.

Hi. I have a very practical reason for being here, and that will become clear soon, I think.
But I've also been a fan of the Ship for years. So it's great to finally be a member here.
I very much don't define my faith by my denomination but maybe it helps. My journey is Anglican -> Baptist -> Baptistish incarnational/missional thing -> Had Kids And Life Happened ->
-> Putting things back together again
Ah, that'll do for now.
Good to be on board!

Hi, everyone! I've been lurking for a bit and finally decided to join.
I'm in the process of joining an Episcopal church. I was raised Southern Baptist, and spent quite some time away from the faith, but I've been feeling myself pulled back. I think this community is exactly what I need as I'm figuring things out.
