A new thread for 2018.

Thank you to all who contribute so faithfully here.

Prayers especially for Wodders as he continues after the stroke. Restoration of his sight would be wonderful. I miss him here and also behind the scenes on Hosts board. I know many who miss him.

Please pray for the elderly (82) mother of a dear friend. Already frail from a fall some months ago when she hit her head, she was knocked to the ground in broad daylight in a city centre park by two men. They stole her handbag and left her traumatised, both from the assault and from a broken shoulder. [Votive]

Just to let you know, the operation went well - TBTG - but some "suspicious" cells were found in the sentinel node. So some lymph nodes were removed and sent for analysis.
I have my next appointment with the oncology consultant on 26th January, when I should discover what the next treatment will be. Hoping that it isn't chemo, but if it is, it is. We'll deal with it.
I am remarkably grateful for an insurance policy taken out a few years back that pays a sum of money to cover lost earnings (as I'm self employed) Taking my usual travelling costs into account we'll actually be slightly better off with me not working! Also, 100% medical charges paid. That is a relief and a cause for thanksgiving!

Last Saturday afternoon one of my best friends succumbed to cancer, three years after diagnosis.

One of my best friends has pancreatic cancer.

No contract on the horizon.

My apartment fell through (the deal, not the structure).

I am in an arm cast for another three weeks (that will be ten weeks, total, unless the crack hasn't healed by then, then more).

I've spent the last two days in bed with the flu, and might be unable to attend the funeral tomorrow.

For Peter, Nick, and my relative inconveniences, candles, please.

My boyfriend broke up with me over New Year, after we had agreed I would move in with him. Probably need to leave my flat at the end of Feb and have nowhere to go atm.

Worse is the emotional trauma and the fact that it was unexpected. Looking back I can see how much this is my fault and ca't quite forgive myself for how badly I treated him. I wish I had a chance to put things right but I don't think that will happen.

Thankful for friends and for my job (which I feared for 8 months I would lose, but that's another story!).

In Cape Town we are fast approaching Day Zero when the city runs out of water in the worst drought in a century. All running water to households and businesses will be cut as early as 21 April. Which may be difficult but survivable for those of us able to install rain-water tanks and dry compost toilets, to buy bottled water or drive to water distribution points, but likely to cause tremendous suffering for those in poorer communities. Prayers for rain and skilful crisis management requested, many thanks.

For immediate new employment for Mr Chopped.

For Lothlorien’s DIL, for healing. OUCHIE

For Gill H and the aftermath of that phone conversation.

For Rossweisse and her children. Also, down with cancer.

For MaryLouise, for healing.

For Penny S’ R to be comforted in her loss.

For the tears to be wiped from Martin60’s eyes.

For rain and skilful crisis management in Cape Town.

For daisymay.

For Piglet’s D. and S.

For K., needing protection from a dangerous person in his workplace.

For V., for healing.

For the Telemum, who seems to have a bit of coronary artery disease. Also - she fell over a bizarre stone bus shelter thing (in an under-construction community area with no street lighting, at night… [Roll Eyes] ) and apparently didn’t break her rib, but it’s going to hurt for a few weeks. Her wrist was also badly bruised, which is making it hard for her to use that hand.

I continue to have enormous difficulty getting up in the morning and am slow to start my day, which means I end up working into the night. That’s not what I want. Tomorrow is Day Zero. I will get up and seize the day. Please?

In the midst of all these prayers for people in peril, and danger, and pain, could I ask your prayers for a joyous occasion:

The Convocation of the Episcopal Church in Europe is soon to be launching its search for a new Bishop, as our current B-i-charge, Pierre Whelan, has resigned. Please could you pray that God will prepare the hearts of those who are called to this process:
O God, we pray for the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe as we discern and elect a Bishop to serve your people, build up your Church and proclaim boldly the Gospel to the world. Send us, we pray, an Apostle who is a wise counsellor, a merciful pastor, filled with your joy and grace. May your servant have the abundant gifts needed to lead your flock and the strength and courage to administer them. And may we renew and rededicate our lives to your will and service. All this we pray in the Name of our Great High Priest and Servant of the servants of God, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please pray for the Search committee, tasked with preparing the advertising, and the Transition Committee (I'm on that) who will be organising the pre-election, election and post election work, including the service of consecration.
Thank you.

Amen to that.

Just for information, is the Episcopal Church in Europe the American equivalent of the C of E's Diocese of Europe?

In other news, the BBC reports that the possible effects of the earthquake off Alaska are by no means quite as bad as at first thought, for which God be praised.

[Votive] anyway!

[Votive] For local family stuff, which is ongoing with little sign of abating (insert "smiley" of choice).

I may have mentioned Mrs Sioni's profoundly autistic great-nephew who was permanently excluded from the special school he has attended since he was 5 (he's now 14). The school authorities have clearly taken on the wrong parents here: they presented their case to the city Mayor no less: he and his colleagues professed themselves appalled at the lack of provision and it looks like there will a Question in the House (a written one I expect) but this shows just how serious and determined they are.

Prayers would be appreciated for Z (the boy), his sister L and the amazing parents M & J

Prayers for all - what a difficult time.

And we need some, as well. D's son has had a nasty infection that is going round. One of the visiting nurses had had something which sounds very like it, and recovered, but he has had a very disturbing effect of a limited and selective dysphasia - he is fighting to recall nouns, including names, in order to communicate what he wants to eat and drink, and I think I am going to have to persuade him into A&E when he wakes up again. D is not coping with this well, and has got very upset that he is blanking her out, which has got him worked up and his headache back. It has not been a good night.
I can't see how we are going to go forward from this.

He's at the stage of "end-of-life" treatments; he's begun to reject his peg-feeder and the nurses in the home where he's been for the last 3 years are talking about syringe drivers. It looks as if we're going to have to make a trip across the Pond sooner rather than later.

In some ways I'm not upset, because for the last year or two he's been "ready to go"; as he put it to a friend, he feels as if he's in a waiting room and has missed the bus. My mum died six years ago, and I think a good bit of his raison d'être died with her.

Sadly, that's unlikely. I don't know whether he would know me, and he hasn't been able to communicate for some time now. At the moment our plan is to be over after rather than before, as D. will be expected to play for the funeral when the time comes.

He is still in hospital but they have now diagnosed colonic cancer. He is due laparoscopic surgery on Saturday in the hope that no further intervention will be necessary.
He has family living locally and supporting him in hospital.

Please remember him in your prayers.

Thanks, all. I think Mrs. S. hit it on the head about the lives both Dad and Uncle Pete lived, and I found myself feeling glad that Pete didn't have to suffer the cancer and its effects for too long.

As D. put it when I told him about Pete, he lived life to the very best, against all the odds, and never let his disabilities stop him from doing what he wanted to do.

Dad didn't have anything like the obstacles Pete faced, but like him, he filled his life with the things he wanted to do.

May they both rest in peace. [Votive]

On top of the tragedies, sorrows and losses felt by so many a deal of family shit has come raining down. I could easily post in Hell on the Difficult Relatives thread but I have faith that Things Can Get Better. They may not Only Get Better, but with wisdom, care and love they may do so.

I do feel however that some will get hurt and as little ones are concerned I just hope it isn't them. My view is that adults should behave as such, desist from troublemaking for whatever reason known or unknown, deliberate or inadvertent, and give us the strength to protect those kids.

Thank you for your forbearance. [Votive]

Grandson B has been taken to A&E with a high temperature (39c) and he’s very listless. I’ll let you know how things go meanwhile we’re 🙏

Thanks, grandson B is now at home. He’s had some meds and his parents instructed to call back if he gets worse

Posted by Lothlorien (# 4927) on :

That is good news. A worrying time when little ones are sick.

Posted by Rossweisse (# 2349) on :

Agreed. There's nothing worse than really sick kidlets.

My Mum fell in the night and is complaining of not being able to move her arm. The hospital she is in* is sending her for x-ray. I would really like it if it was not broken as that would mean she could be discharged into a nursing home tomorrow.

Thanks

Jengie

*Mum is at high risk of falls and her falls are almost impossible to eliminate as she will not use walking aids; a fall does not indicate bad practice.

Tomorrow I will be travelling up north to attend my friend's mum's funeral. Please pray that all goes as well as can be expected and the predicted snow doesn't disrupt the trains. Please also pray for I. on what will be a very difficult day for him.

Prayers for all.

I'd appreciate it if a few could be said for my brother, who is in need of a new job asap.

[Votive] for Nicole's brother

[Votive] I just learned that my friend Jane, a contract worker, will not be renewed, and has about three weeks to try to find another job. She's intelligent, talented, and hard-working, but,as she says, "It's hard to find a job when you're fat, female, and 50."

Do any Shipmates know her in real life?
[Votive]

Posted by Rossweisse (# 2349) on :

No, but I was wondering about her when her posts stopped. I hope she's all right.

Praying too. I met her years ago but have no idea how to contact her now.

daisymay used to be a regular at all the London meets until about 5 years ago, when she stopped coming. There's nothing on her Facebook or Flickr pages or any public notices having checked her real name. I'll get my daughter to check Facebook properly later.

I've met her at a number of Shipmeets, like CK. Also concerned about her.

Praying for all who post here but specially Daisymay.

daisymay last posted on Facebook in 2013 - posting she was on her way to Mull (which was posted here at the time, so I'm not outing her. I met her at the ferry terminal at Oban on my way back - the last time I saw her. She didn't recognise me).

For DaisyMay, and all other Shipmates in difficulty or missing.

For all of us, especially the H/As and the backstage folks making the new Ship.

May the New Ship sail smoothly and safely to wonderful places. May the transition be easy for everyone, with no one lost.

May this Ship rest happily where it docks, full of good memories, and holograms of Shipmates living them out. May it eventually join the Celestial Edition of the Ship, with Shipmates who've crossed over. (And a certain Gator happily paddling around. [Smile] )

And may our memories of this Ship rest easy in our minds.

If I may ask, is DaisyMay suffering the after-effects of a stroke, etc.?

If that's too personal, just ignore this post.

Thx.
