Ship of Fools Auction Catalogue
LOTS 1-5: LOW NUMBERS

Our low membership numbers are coveted by many people (who are thus breaking the 10th Commandment... tut tut), and now is your chance to make one of them your very own. This is in fact the first time any number of only two digits has been available since May 2001, when the ship's bulletin boards first opened for business. The auction opens on Thursday 18 August at 12 noon (UK time), but for now, browse among the Lots below.

Number 21
LOT 1

Aside from being the lowest membership number offered in this auction (and the total number of pips on a normal dice), 21 is also an Historic Registration™. It was the very first registration made when these boards were opened to the public on 22 May 2001. It's unlikely that any membership number lower than this will ever be auctioned by Ship of Fools, so form an orderly queue now.

Number 24
LOT 2

Think Jack Bauer. Or 24-carat gold. Or Gene Pitney warbling "Only 24 hours from Tulsa". This number is also perfect for weird Bible-toting signatures, e.g. "Ships will come from the shore of Kittim... but they too will come to ruin" (Numbers 24:24). No. 24 was the fourth registration made on the day the Ship of Fools boards were opened to the public on 22 May 2001, but only 9 posts were ever made with it.

Number 37
LOT 3

This prime little number (the only prime in this auction) was registered on Day 1 of these bulletin boards, 22 May 2001. It's a number which has several claims to fame, being the normal temperature of the human body (37 degrees Celsius), the top number in European Roulette, and a recurring theme in movies made by Kevin Smith.

Number 66
LOT 4

Registered on Day 2 of the ship's bulletin boards, No. 66 is highly desirable: a low number with big curiosity value. There are 66 books in the Bible (if you're a Protestant), it's just one 6 short of the infamous Mark of the Beast, and of course, Route 66 is the place where you can get your kicks.

Number 95
LOT 5

Martin Luther's famous number: he posted his 95 theses on a church door in protest at the Catholic Church, which sparked the Reformation. This is also a number precious to Bill Gates and his much... er... loved Windows 95 system software. Plus it's the atomic number of the radioactive element Americium, which is used in smoke alarms. Membership No. 95 was registered on Day 2 of the bulletin boards, on 23 May 2001.
