I liked WW's opening, so I just copied it:

Here at the beginning of the New Year, just starting in the Chatham Islands, we bring our prayers before God.

Once again I begin with the prayer I used last year:

My God, my Creator, my Redeemer, my Love
Spirit pervading all creation, of which I am a part
Spirit which moves within me and unites me to that whole
May we grow towards unity
May we help each other in our daily needs, earthly, spiritual and emotional
May I learn to have compassion for myself and others
May I be open to the promptings of the Spirit
So that we all may live in peace and love and rejoice in the glory of creation.
Let it be so.

Prayers for all, the quick, the dead, the suffering and unhappy.

My family and I had a nice visit and we are having a memorial service in February for my Aunt.

I’m getting more and more scared and panicky.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about my lower back pain/sciatica. It got worse over Christmas and I saw my GP the day after Boxing Day after several days of agonising pain. She prescribed painkillers that WORKED – great! The pain has now all gone – even better!

But… my legs don’t seem to be working properly. I have tingling in my left foot and part of it is completely numb, I have restricted movement in the foot, my leg feels weak and walking is an effort. I’m terrified some irreversible damage has been done and I’ll end up permanently disabled. The tingling & numbness are just in my left foot but both legs feel weak and heavy

The doctor arranged for me to have an MRI scan – it’s next Wednesday. I’m worried about that because I’m not good in confined spaces (I had one several years ago for something else so I know what to expect) and I’m also worried about what it’s going to show up.

Then yesterday I started to get tingling and a sort of weak feeling in my left ARM as well – that’s frightening me too. It doesn’t make sense.

I’m a compulsive worrier, I always have been, but this is really scaring me. Part of me says I'm just working myself up into a state and if I could calm down the symptoms wouldn't seem so bad, but the other part of me thinks something really serious is going on

Sorry to write so much but I haven’t got anyone else to talk to at the moment.

For Vida, mother of a man we hope will be a member of our family someday soon. She dropped dead in Ottawa as I was heading to Guelph to meet her son and participate in a family wedding.

Sciatica can be SO disabling - I know, I'm a sufferer. And your symptoms do sound scary, so I can imagine how you are feeling. I am not a doctor, and so don't take this as advice, but I was having terrible pins and needles in my legs & feet with my sciatica, which, once I was over the worst (thanks to painkillers, stretches and gentle exercise), disappeared.

Don't apologise for writing a long post. The more info we have the more specific prayers can be. And I guess it helps you to organise your thoughts about exactly what it is that you are worried about.

She's coming to do an inspection on Thursday afternoon [Frown] I told her I would not have time to do any cleaning/clearing up because of my back and she told me that's what she is concerned about - that the "cottage" (as she calls it) is being neglected [Frown] I could be given notice to quit and be homeless [Waterworks]

Thanks for prayers, the Telemum had a very successful appointment and the consultant was pleased with the GP's thorough report. I am a bit worried that her osteoporosis treatment is being suspended but they are going to monitor her condition and not operate (from what she said it sounds like hyperparathydroidism, so nothing too serious) unless it worsens. We are all smiles.

The Finance Monster is sneaking around in the bushes and growling, though. Don't think I should have teased him like that.

On the old thread, I asked for prayer for my depressed alcoholic brother, A, who told me he was self-referring for treatment for his alcoholism. Good news is that they tell him he is doing so well ON HIS OWN, he just needs to get back into going to meetings

The downside - why does there always have to be a downside? - is that he told our mother he was trying to lose weight. He is already stick thin. Why does it seem as if when he gets on top of one bit of his mental illness, another one pops up somewhere else?

Good news - have a job, or part of one. Working from home, flexi hours, part time for a charity, which works well for me. (But I have to be self employed, and pay my own stamp, which is complicated and scary.)

Bad news - since Boxing Day I've had a lot of pain in my leg (trapped nerve? sciatica?) which keeps flaring up, and stopping me from doing anything. Today is bad; I'm only remotely comfortable lying flat out with a hot water bottle.

Good news A friend came round this morning to see look at the cleaning which needs to be done and mentioned there was a drop in centre for housing advice every Tuesday at 2pm. Guess where I've been - and they have been very helpful. The advisor told me that it sounds like she is being overly fussy and cannot dictate how or when I clean or tidy up. He advised taking photographs as proof that the house is not being neglected. He assured me that I would get assistance to deal with things should she want to evict me but it will costs her money and he thinks that if it is over cleanliness (not proven) then she may think twice.

I had a nasty fall at home on Boxing Day - my "bad" leg went underneath me. Things have eased a lot, I'm now able to walk again, though it's hit my confidence and I'm using the sticks even in the house. I'm getting a lot of prayer from 4 amazing young people, I also saw a physio tonight who gave me ultrasound on my knee. I've been on the sick, resting my leg as much as possible, but I'm back in work Thursday. I'd really appreciate prayer for my return to work!

Here is a thing I need to pray about: I want to start an evening class, and also want to keep up with my singing (as well as doing a teaching job with all that entails and having time to stare at the wall).

For Ana - diagnosed with a cancer.

Her husband was my room-mate 11 years ago when I had cancer. She and her daughter lived at the hospital, nearly, doing a lot of personal nursing for Louie. They also kept me company, and advocated for me when they felt he and I were ignored or mistreated. Louie died in late 2002. He never made it home. But I've kept in touch and today I got the phone call. Apparently this stay put her in the same room as Louie and me, but in my bed.

I had my MRI scan today and it went really well – I felt quite calm. Having got that over, I feel slightly less agitated about everything, and the symptoms (tingling, numbness etc) although still there, don’t seem quite so bad. I’ll get the results of the scan next week and then presumably I’ll know whether I need to be worried or not…

Thank you everyone who prayed and responded to my post, it really helped…

Emergency prayer request--

In about half an hour Mr. Lamb is planning to confront our old un-friend the Encroaching Creature, who (as those of you who've had to put up with my whining know) has had a major spite against us for some time and joined up with our old enemies of 2006 (the ones who led to my screen name). He has now apparently gone to our denominational authorities with bullshit about Mr. Lamb committing adultery (this is a revival of the old, old, OLD accusations from 2006, and needless to say completely a lie, then and now). Mr. L is enraged and planning to confront the whole boiling lot of them this evening without a friendly or even neutral witness present. Anything could happen, most likely added slander, but up to and including violence against him. Would you pray that the Holy Spirit overrules this whole bloody mess? God have mercy on us.

my teenage nephew has run away from home. I don't know many details, but at least a part of my brother's family are handling it as if he is a criminal rather than an endangered child, which worries me. please pray for Patrick. He is also autistic which makes the whole mess that much trickier.

Asking for prayers for some conflict resolution here in the Overberg where farmworker protests demanding higher wages have turned into riots. Looting of shops and attacks on a Somali shopkeeper, stone-throwing and burning of tyres. The police hopeless at crowd control and retaliating with rubber bullets and stun grenades.

I am going to Mass several times a week because Z (my wife) needs continued prayers. She graduated with an MA in Education nearly a year ago and is still a bloody underpaid supply teacher, teaching English to local juvenile delinquents. Her daily pay exceeds mine by slightly more than 6% even though she has at least 50% more education!



I am positive she is a victim of age discrimination as is one of my colleagues. She refuses to contact the National Labor Relations Board here in the USA. Dunno why...

We are able to keep our heads above water, but only just...

I received the wonderful news that it's time for my 6-month review. I have no reason to think that this will go badly, I seem to be doing my job pretty well and you'd think I'd know by now if we had any problems. But the Vietnam flashbacks are overriding my rational thought right now. Put together with the demos I have to show off to the customer next week, and I am struggling with anxiety and totally unearned shame. Rationally, the biggest danger is that my shame takes over and I end up stigmatising myself for no reason. (I hope that's the biggest danger.)

My Grandad is dying. Peacefully and sleepily with good care, good company, a solid faith, and a loving family, but it still hurts a bit because we've always been very close.

Praying too for a quiet night for my grandpa J in Oz - he was taken into hospital on Wednesday and needs a pacemaker but they were unable to do the operation on Friday because he was too confused and agitated. If he has a quiet night and is relatively lucid in the morning then they can go ahead.

And, selfishly, I'd rather not lose 3 out of 4 grandparents in a sinlge 12 month period.

I am struggling with sciatica. (I went to the doctor - she said it should wear off in 6-8 weeks.) So now I have some work to do I'm finding it hard to do it, as I'm only really comfortable lying flat out. So I got a notice about my redundancy consultation today and freaked out. I had to break my façade of cool long enough to phone the admin, who said that both this, and the review, were completely standard as I'm six months into a 12-month contract. So, phew.

Second, I'm working flat out to get the demos ready and of course the last 1% of the work had to be absolutely monumental, didn't it? I still have to visualise it, rearchitect it, and deploy it and hello, fun weekend. I really need to impress Boss and Funders this coming week. Curse you, sickly pre-Christmas week, for delaying me unto this.

Oh yeah, and I'm also six months into a twelve-month contract. This means I have to start looking for work. Did I ever mention how much I enjoy that?

Of course, I always have the option of not worrying about any of this. Some spiritual help with that would be good.

LM, a friend of mine, a very caring person to both humans (including me when I was in serious need 12 years ago) and non-humans, called me in tears because CeCe, her beloved and sweet cat of several years (whom i've had the pleasure of meeting) has been missing now 3 days. I feel guilty not posting this prayer request yesterday as that would have added ammunition from this prayer navy 24 hours earlier. She was still missing as of this morning.

A hallelujah of thanksgiving that God is so far upholding me in this new year.

That i can get more organized financially and that i may be able to get a car somehow.

That i can conquer an insect infestation that has recently manifested in my home.

and our elderly cousin M is now just out of hospital; she can't read, as her eyes don't see and she still has cancer in her front. But she was able to hear me phoning her and she spoke and listened well. She has lost lots of being strong and very light now!

For C, S & little S, the loveliest family you could hope to meet. They didn't have a particularly easy time, really struggled to have little S and C has a manageable chronic illness but always positive and giving. S developed motor neurone disease and it's a heartbreaking, horrible thing.

My 104yr old neighbour, Miss W, has just been taken to hospital in an ambulance. I understand from her carer that her pacemaker has stopped working, although she has regained consciousness. She is a devout Roman Catholic, and I know she would appreciate your prayers.

Tired.
Fed up at work but almost too tired from that job to put 100% into my interviews for another. Missing my cat - which sounds pathetic but is undeniably the case. And it's not easy to make rational and well-considered decisions about jobs and security and the like when what you feel like is just running away to somewhere warm and safe and hiding under a duvet with a box of chocolates. This latter is not an option, sadly. I want to live life to the full but with my current work situation I feel as though I'm wading through porridge.
I'd so appreciate your prayers for some oomph, and some direction.

I have my bimonthly CT scan and a doctor's appt tomorrow. So far these appt's have gone very well. Also the next day i have another doctor's appt (non-melanoma related and in no way life-threatening and nothing painful, but if it can be dealt with, it would be a nice thing to happen in my life

Good news regarding Cece, she came home a little while ago -- hungry but otherwise in good health. She had been stuck in a neighbor's garage for 3/4 days. LM is so happy (me too). She was grateful for Ship prayers.

I have no idea what is going on, but if Mr. Lamb's sources are correct, the Encroaching Creature has alienated his allies in the effort to revive false accusations against us, and they are now filing a complaint against him.... you couldn't make this stuff up. Still waiting and watching though. And the doctor has me scheduled for nasty tests on next Wed. to see if I need surgery. I can't keep much down and it's been weeks.

Poor little Mohammed was born with Downs Syndrome, and severe reflux problems. He is deaf and now (at 9 months old) is going blind. He has numerous other medical problems as well, and a very short life expectancy. Let us pray for him and his family.

I had follow up tests last week for medical procedure I had last summer which went fine except for when the anesthetic failed mid procedure. I am now having flash backs to that as well as waiting for test results which might mean I have to have the procedure again (or something more serious). 95% chance that everything will be fine. Anxiety through the roof regardless. I'm supersensitive and not handling people well right now, which is bad. Please pray for me (and those around me!)

I arrived in Brisbane on Tuesday, and have spent some wonderful last days with my Grandad and the rest of the family. On Tuesday, especially, Grandad was often awake and responsive, gesturing with his arm for hugs.

Grandad died peacefully earlier this afternoon, with Grandma and me both there to be with him as he passed. There's a sense of pain and loss at his passing, but above all a feeling of love while reflecting on the contribution he's made to my life and the lives of so many others.

May Grandad rest in the Lord and rise in glory. Please pray for me and all the passing as we adjust to Grandad's passing and prepare for his funeral.

I have an important meeting on Monday - a discharge (from hospital) meeting for a somewhat challenging family. Please pray that I will be able to get to it - there are 6 children (who don't see eye to eye) and 3 professionals involved, and it's been a nightmare to co-ordinate. I really don't need to cancel because of the snow.
Please pray for me on Tuesday - I have a disciplinary hearing because of my sickness abscences - 5 seperate occasions amounting to 13 days over the last 12 months. One part of me knows I don't really have anything to worry about as I am already seeing the Occ Health nurse who is very supportive, but another part of me is alternatively seething and panicking. I have even joined the union to have a union rep with me - she's someone I've known and liked for a number of years and her husband has MS, so she knows how the condition can affect.

I got the results of my MRI scan today. Apparently I have a “slightly protruding disc” and the doctor has recommended physio. I’m grateful that it’s nothing worse - I was imagining all sorts of things - and I’m even more grateful that the pain I had at Christmas has all but gone and the other symptoms are (possibly, hopefully?) getting slightly better. Prayers for complete healing would be appreciated.

My Dad is in hospital again, for the fourth time in about as many months. It's the same problem every time, and they can treat the symptoms pretty effectively, but the cause is still a mystery.

So life is a round of uncertainty as to when it'll happen again. Because it does. I know Dad finds it very frightening, and the uncertainty niggles away at my mother too.

The first one vandalised her jotter and stormed out of the classroom slamming the door. The next one accused me of allowing the stormer out to call her a slut, and walked off when I was trying to discuss her own poor behaviour.

Feeling rather scared right now for a daft reason - I've been offered a job.

At least, an agency rang up this morning and said they had a school reasonably near me that desperately needed a teacher and could I go for an interview tomorrow morning (the job would start on Thursday). I am really bad at thinking on my feet, so simply said yes. Since then I've looked at the school's website, and it doesn't look like my sort of place in all sorts of ways. So now I'm worried that I will be offered the job, I'll say yes again (because that's the easiest thing to do) and I'll be trapped in a job that isn't good for me and it will all end up in another meltdown. (Also, I thought I'd decided that it would be a bad idea to work in a school again.)

So, I'm confused and a tad panic stricken. Prayers, as always, would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your prayers. Mum died this afternoon. I'm sad that I missed seeing her last weekend because of the snow. She'd been unhappy and not at all herself for some weeks. I think that, after years of saying she wished she could just slip away quietly, she really did want to go this time and I trust she's at peace now.

Manchester is snow free today (at least in the city centre so as long as you get out of where you're coming from you should find the journey fine.

Please say a prayer for my daughter Louise, that she will get home safely. She is travelling home by bus and one of the roads her bus has to travel on has just been listed as hazardous and only just passable 5 mins ago. The bus company are suspending all services due to leave after 6 pm due to snow affecting roads. She may get stranded.

I was at the doctor today and was tested that I'm not horribly ill, and that was OK. I have to have my blood tested on Monday morning. And I had today off work and tomorrow and Friday it's all busy work. I still feel ill and slept many hours today!

Small, but the God who counts the petals on a daisy cares enough about the small things, I trust.

I have lost my passport.
It is in the flat somewhere, it just isn't in the place where it ought to be. The boy's passport is there, but mine isn't.,.. and seems to be nowhere in the vicinity.
To register as a supply teacher, I need to find it. And before Monday.
I'd appreciate your prayers for insight into what on earth I did with it (and why!) and determination in hunting for it.

Thank you for your prayers: passport found - frustratingly but reassuringly precisely where it should have been - which is where I decided to have one last look after turning the place upside down. Trouble is, I now can't remember where I put the folder of all the other certificates I need So please continue to pray for my disorganised self to keep going to find the folder and to rediscover my home from under all the overturned boxes!!!

Thank you everyone for your prayers. I was able to have a serious talk with my employers today (I understand the position they are in, and I believe they at long last understand mine) and the result has been an unexpected and sanity-saving boost to finances. Now for the relationships ... I think I know what I need to do ...

Thanks everybody for praying for us. I don't hear till next Friday when my surgery's to be, but have taken pre-emptive safety steps at work, as my boss is on the warpath again (it's annual review lead-up time, and I darkly suspect he's creating a paper trail to justify his review in advance). I am being scrutinized under a microscope, and panicking.

Came home yesterday at 6, opened the door (with my keys) and had a great evening with the daughter and wife.

Woke up this morning, went to go do laundry and..............my keys are missing. Including a key to work.

I spent 9 hours fretting and trying to find them including all the usual tracing of steps and praying and sundry flashlight checks of every nook and cranny.

Still can't find them.

All the good refreshing times from last night gone, for all 3 of us.

My mother has a long-term disability and I have privilege (or not) as being the sole wager earner in the household and have been for the last few years (mum does get various benefits on top of which I pay board and lodgings).

To make things more complicated, I have just got engaged, which is lovely, however, my mum feels strongly that we should continue living in the family home even after we're married (divided off into a separate living area but still!)

My fiance, however much she loves my mum, wants to live somewhere close but not in the same house!

On top of all of this, mum is currently due to start studying part-time and was relying on my board money to help pay her tuition fees.

as the above suggests, I feel completely trapped and helpless. Any prayers would be great appreciated

As an ex-shop steward, among many other union roles I was constantly facing my boss and her bosses across the table. I was very careful to separate the role of an underling from that of a shop steward (where I frequently had to read the riot act to various management types). After a few times they got to know the difference, but they were still terrified when I went to their offices unannounced.

Prayers for you. You should get used to it. They shouldn't.

Yes, I was once a shop steward and can empathise with the difficulties. I was once told via the unit sister that my nurse manager didn't approve as she didn't think junior staff should be undertaking staff negotiations that would affect senior staff I suggested that perhaps she became a shop steward then! On the whole nurse managers were helpful though as much of our union work was on professional issues.

Saturday was a difficult day, and I'm left with a difficult problem involving at least one or two, but maybe a whole group, of people. I can ignore it and just walk away. That is my instinctive reaction to problems, and it would make my life easier in the short term. Wisdom (and courage) are needed to do the right thing.

This is relatively small but I my parents stubborness is getting to me.

Mum and Dad are both 84 and have colds. Mum's has gone on for over a week and seems to have settled on her chest. She has had bronchitus in the past. I am not really happy with Dad driving Mum to the doctors given that he too is ill (Mum does not drive). I have therefore asked Dad to ask for a home visit for mum just to check there is nothing to be concerned about.

Dad is not doing so at present. This is part of a pattern, there are other areas in his and mum's life that he could be helped with, if he would just ring up and say that he was there.

So main one is that Dad will actually get up the nerve to phone the surgery and ask. Second is for healing for them. Third wisdom for my sister and I in dealing with my parents.

Thank you so much for praying about the meeting. As it turned out, I didn't have to speak as our branch secretary was so angry that he did all the talking! My boss has done something wrong but didn't understand why she should have to answer for her actions. Both the head of HR and the chief exec promised to visit her for 'a chat' after the meeting, to help her understand.

I'm struggling a bit with anxiety at the moment ( I have bipolar disorder which is well controlled by lifestyle management) and this has put me a little behind on my work. I have stacks of essays to mark, which won't be a problem when I put my mind to it, but when anxious I tend to prevaricate and delay. I am going to mark the first lot today so please may I have some prayers for my focus on this, and tomorrow when I continue. I really have nothing to be anxious about but it is something I need to work on.

Please pray for my Aunty R. She is the mother of my cousin who was killed by a drink driver last October. This week she had a minor operation to fix a hernia, but during surgery had a heart attack. Thankfully it was not serious and though she is still in hospital she is conscious and doing really well. Her husband has just had an operation on his sinuses this week too so is not yet 100%.

They have bought a campervan and have plans to travel around Australia, partly to deal with the grief of losing their son. Please pray for my Aunt's recovery and future health - her asthma has also been bad lately. Also, though less serious, for my Uncle H's nose.

I still have a lingering cough, from Christmas Eve. It's keeping me awake at night, and really beginning to bother me. Research in the interweb has scared me slightly indicating that it may take years to resolve...and I can't cope with that. Please pray that it will Get Better asap, and that it won't hang around for too much longer.

Thanks for the prayers. I heard great news about my Aunt today. The doctors did an angiogram and have decided she didn't have a heart attack after all We are all very relieved though my Aunt is unimpressed they told her she had a heart attack when she hadn't had one at all.

We've been very fortunate with a replacement car, though it took time on the car front and the funding front too.

With the best will in the world, I wouldn't recommend a Reliant.

Govt. department where #3 son works is undergoing a restructure. His name is pencilled in for a permanent job at higher salary, but word has gone out that such jobs need to be finalised quickly. If not finalised an extension on contract will not be granted to anyone. This means that things need to move and move quickly and his boss is trying desperately to push stuff along.

He really does not need this. He's just beginning to sort himself out after long term relationship breakdown and he's renting a town house, has children regularly and paying far more in child support than is required by Centrelink as he does not want his children to suffer poor housing, food etc.

Herself's little nephew A is in hospital undergoing tests a few hours north of us - we are not sure what is wrong but his blood sugar levels seem to be erratic. Any prayers and upholding appreciated.

A friend has just asked me to contact everyone I know to pray for Roger. He had a heart transplant on Wednesday, and every time they try to bring him out of sedation, he has seizures.

In the hospital right now as Thing Have Gotten Worse. Nothing by mouth for...well, till the surgery, which could be tomorrow or the next day or ? Nobody's saying. And unless the insurance behaves in a spectacularly unbureaucratic way, it'll be TWO surgeries rather than one, as half of the procedure isn't okayed by them yet-- which mens waiting to do thatbit till it is. Double your money, double your risk... Dear God help.

For Geoff who has to go to the hospital today for an investigation into suspected prostate cancer. And for his wife, an old and very good friend.

For H, who is struggling with depression, unemployment and a lot of muscle pains and stiffness that the doctors haven't been able to treat so far. He has lost heart to apply for jobs, is unable to go for his favourite walks without pain, and his wife is worried about him.

For all those trying to come to terms with disappointment and those who are struggling with, or have not been able to fend off the steamroller of depression.

Plee pray for Justin - had a pacemaker fitted a few months ago and still hasn't been well - the doctors have now found that the pacing wire has come adrift and so his heart isn't being paced. He's waiting to be transfered to another hospital for another operation, but he and his family are worried he might have a heart attack before the problem can be rectified.

Your prayers would be appreciated as I spend a trial day in a school tomorrow. I want to make a good impression and gather the information I need to inform a trial teaching session which might ultimately lead to a new job. If it's where God wants me, I pray that I will know that clearly and that if it's not to be, that I will cope with disappointment and maintain momentum in my job hunting.

Prayer too, please, for the colleagues I leave behind (having given in my notice regardless) in a place which is in a state of flux and where morale is low.

For people struggling with depression and health worries.

Also, in the past couple of weeks my eyes have made a lot of progress with a change of diet, mega-vitamins and stress-busting. I'm really hoping that some longstanding visual problems may even clear up completely - it would be so good to get rid of them and see clearly again, and I do now feel there is hope. (This is the third episode, and it seems to take longer each time to clear up.)

Another job possibility has come up. Once again my immediate reaction is fear, and to see all the problems linked with this. Which, in turn, feeds the fear that I am never going to be able to hold down a job again. And this is only a possibility - not even an interview, let alone an actual offer.

BTW, thanks for your prayers re making it to an appointment, even though I had the flu. I was well enough then to go, but got a call ahead of time that the person I was to see had the flu! Ditto with a different appointment. And my flu is getting worse again. Hmmm...maybe I need to word my prayer requests more carefully...?

My colonoscopy has been scheduled for 28th February. It would have been even sooner, but I changed it to accommodate other people who don't even appreciate it. *grump* Still, Thank You Lord that I don't have to wait until April, which it could have been if I chose a different hospital.

I know this thread is mainly for more personal requests but please pray for Tunisia. Tomorrow could be a very difficult day for the country here as it deals with the aftermath of the assassination this week. The funeral takes place tomorrow, a general strike has been called and there are likely to be many demonstrations which could easily turn nasty. Meanwhile those in power are struggling to find a way forward politically, and if they don't manage it the whole situation could continue to deteriorate into more violence. Lord have mercy.

Just a small thing - I have either tendonitis or arthritis in my left wrist, and have had whatever it is for the last six years or so. Today at 3pm I'm having an MRI to come up with a proper diagnosis. I'm a bit nervous about being in the MRI. I know; I'm a wuss. I'd appreciate prayer.

Prayers for me, please. Yesterday I freaked out about a knock on our front door... I had just gotten out of the shower and was stark naked and for some reason I flipped out, thinking the door was going to open and someone would see me in the buff... anyway, I hit the hallway door with my shoulder, tried to counter-balance and slammed my left pinkie toe into a full can of paint! Owwwww! Luckily, we don't think it's broken but I have to walk on it... I have no choice... gotta go to the bank and get medicine for the cat, etc. Prayers that I can put on a shoe tomorrow and limp to get chores done...

Prayers for an intention, please. I'm in a dead-end job in the kind of place people get out of as fast as they can, and I'd like to get out, too. But most people would say I'm lucky to have this job, because it's a full-time faculty job, and there are almost none of those left anywhere. I'd love to be able to return to the part of the country I still consider my home, but it seems the only way to do that (because I'd still have to work) is to leave teaching behind and start building a career as an academic administrator. I don't really want to, but I don't want to stay where I am, and every year the conditions for faculty get worse. I am urgently seeking guidance here.

Readig and praying (I need to get into the habbit if checking up on this thread regularly and posting in it!)

I would like prayer for William- diagnosed with cancer that has spread and his wife who is carring for him.

Barry recovering from treatment and his wife as she cares for him.

And my mum as she waits the result of a scan following the last of her palliative chemo therapy and Dad as he tries to care for her. They need to come to terms with how far they are from the end of that journey.

Good news! The Telemum definitely has hyperparathydroidism so a quick inpatient operation to pop out the offending growth is all that's needed.

Bad news: she just went to bed with what I hope is just an upset stomach, not the disease escalating to urgency, nor something worse. UPDATE: she's up and saying she's better, all that typing for nothing UPDATE: she had to run. As you were.

I need a bit more self-discipline. I don't *want* more self-discipline but I *need* it. Oh the year I gave up self-discipline for Lent, that was a good year.

Please pray for the family of missing student David O'Halloran. David's friends saw him catch a taxi back to his Uni Halls after a night out on 22 Jan, but David realised he didn't have enough money, so asked the taxi driver to drop him off early and he'd walk the rest. It was bitterly cold, and he had no jacket, but he didn't have far to go. Then David took a short cut and overshot, arriving at a dairy, where the night workers pointed him back in the direction of his halls. The original taxi driver, with another fare, then saw him near the entrance to his halls and thought it was odd that he was still out, but didn't think to stop. Then there's a sighting of him on CCTV, stumbling badly and apparently hypothermic near the river not far from his halls. And that's it. No further sightings.

I have a son the same age also away at Uni and I can't begin to imagine what his family are suffering.

Please pray for my Mum who had a heart attack on Friday, has had a stent fitted, now has severe heart failure which is being dealt with in the form of medication. Thorough shock to all. I'm so scared.

Mrs Sioni has chipped her kneecap (tripped over a storage rack that had fallen on the floor at work) so she's got her leg strapped up in a kind of split and needs crutches to get around. Good news is that it's youngest son's half-term, so I can get to work some of the time.

She needs a quick recovery and oh, is she frustrated, having only got a car ten days ago and can't now drive!

for my friend J, a teacher's aid who works with children with disabilities. He is recovering from a stroke and his employer of 15 years, the local school system, is now trying to force him (by charges already proven to be false) to quit which would plunge him into deeper poverty than he is now in. They've paid him so low all these years that he is eligible for food stamps. He has never had health benefits.

for C who was like a mother to me when i had my eye removed 15 years ago, and who now undergoing a treatment to try to save her from losing her kidney.

I have had a nasty virus the past few days, causing a lot of dizziness. I ended up sent home from work yesterday, then in a and e later on when i felt dramatically worse.

I need to call in sick today, which is scaring me, even though i know they are understanding people.

Please pray for my nerves and to feel better, also for the doctor i have been referred on to to find out what, if anything, is wrong (i am daring to hope that this may explain the tiredness and frequent illness i have struggled with)

I have to have a series of invasive tests with the first one being on Monday. I am reminding myself that just because a symptom could be a warning of something serious doesn't mean it is.

Also the nature of the tests is such that they could cause flashbacks to a series of traumatic experiences.

I would appreciate prayers for courage and calm.

Today I received an e-mail from my friend L about how she spent Valentine's Day. In pertinent part (with suitable editing to obscure names) it read:

Protecting a friend from abuse may well be the absolute best way to spend a Valentine's Day that I have ever heard.

I would request prayers for L's friend and also pray for the Lord to bless L. She has her own medical issues and problems and yet they don't stop her from standing up for her friends.

The Telemum has a lot of pain in her knees, taking paracetamol to little effect. She dismisses the idea of seeing a doctor about it because at best, they would give her painkillers, and it's obvious to her that all painkillers are just like Tramadol.

I woke up with a recurrence of my vertigo - I've not had it for over 2 years so have completely forgotten which of the miscellaneous boxes of drugs that I have is supposed to treat this! Getting an appt with the doctor is probably impossible, the chemists are shut today, and I need to prepare my lessons for the week.
Please can you pray that I manage to get through everything reasonably well, without succumbing to the nausea that is prowling around. And that I act sensibly in dealing with this...Thank you.

My appointment on 28th turns out not to be the actual colonoscopy, but a 20-minute referral. And now I'm nervous because the symptoms are not as great as when I originally saw my GP. I don't want to be seen as a silly middle-aged woman who worries too much (even if it is true!)

Thank you for youir prayers for P - tests have confirmed her cancer isn't back again and the lack of contact has been because she's been busy with various domestic things.

T seems to be doing reasonably well, and has people looking in on him regularly.

(And Hedgehog, thank you for that kind prayer - I live too far away from both of them to feel a lot of use!)

For me, for continued employment etc. I am very socially isolated now. I am feeling a bit resentful that I have to jump through so many hoops to make even the smallest connection with another person. My phone rang the other day and I eagerly grabbed it up; turned out my friend had accidentally butt-dialled me. That happened the last time she called, too. Six months ago. I also know what happens to people when they start to feel like I'm feeling right now: they become very undesirable friends to have.

Thanks for the support and prayers everyone. Scan results showed abnormalities (which may still be benign). This means that I have some more invasive procedures coming up to investigate things further.

I'd consider running away to sea, but I don't think middle-aged cabin girls with a fear of heights would be welcome.

i've not been here much lately due to non-bad scheduling reasons but knowing you all are here is a strength. I'm still feeling very healthy and incredibly lucky 13 months after the diagnosis. and the last scans 2 month ago showed the little cancerous bits were stable. Today i have another scan in about 90 minutes or so.

Today I got confirmation that on Friday I'm having surgery to remove my gall bladder - a very common, straight forward procedure but I'd value your prayers. It'll be nice to begin to feel better again. In another 2 weeks I get the results of the colonoscopy that didn't find anything immediately alarming (phew) and then I can begin 2013 - it's felt like it's been on hold so far.

Re my medical appt on Tuesday -- i had a Homer Simpson moment -- in other words, doh! it was only for my monthly bloodwork jabbings and to get my next round of chemo trial drugs (which, praise God, have not given me any adverse affects at all). The scans are March 19, not Feb. 19! (So I got up extra early and forewent breakfast for nothing!)

But they put it off for a week because of the results of blood work i'd had a week earlier for an entirely unrelated medical matter with my urologist. It was noticed in that blood test that my PSA levels were up so my oncologist wants to see what my PSA levels are when they jab me next week.

My prayer in this regard is that this wouldn't lead to something like having to have a medical procedure that would cause me to lose sexual functioning altogether. (Deficiencies in this regard are the main reason i went to see the urologist in the first place -- God has blessed me with wonderful health since my melanoma diagnosis and i'd like to be able to enjoy the life God had extended to me with a functioning body -- a meaningful relation with a significant other is perhaps not out of the question yet -- in any event, God's will be done, (S)He has not let me down yet!)

I pray for blessings upon this family and that they will continue to thrive.

For the people on my street who were arrested for burglary this week, and for those on this street and elsewhere who were burgled by them.

Co-worker H & Imminent Baby. If baby doesn't come out on her own in the next few days they're going in after her. No medical problems AFAIK, but H, who is not a large person, is very big in the pregnant way, very sore, very tired, and very ready for baby to be born. Hopefully a little spiritual encouragement will motivate Baby to make her debut.

I am having to work hard on keeping optimistic about landing a teaching job after coming second in so many interviews so far. All three interviews this week sound to be a perfect match. please pray for Ann. She is a dear friend - or was - who has now decided to really hate me over something neither of us had any control over. We are both sad and disappointed, but she has turned it into this paranoia that I'm out to hurt her and her husband. Nothing could be further from the truth, I treasure them and their friendship. She knows better, but I think this is her way of coping. She's always been on the side of assuming the worst.

And she's making my life more challenging during an already very challenging time. lots of nastiness and threats. It's baffling and hurtful, but more I'm frankly worried about her. We used to be close, I love her dearly, and this behavior is concerning. I considered calling her husband to ask for some help but I'm sure that would send her even further over the edge.

I don't get it, but I'd like for her to be okay.

Do they actually tell you that you have come in second? I think my wife, Z, is a victim of age discrimination, never mind that everybody and her dog in academia here wants to teach English language and literature which is what her seemingly worthless MA in education was all about. Like me, she is a supply teacher and earns about 7% more than I do though I suffered to finish my studies as an art major and undergraduate and she finished grad school near the top of her class... This is wrong!

We're going to be in a world of hurt later on this year if she does not sign a teaching contract with health care and other benefits!

Due to not properly stretching this morning, and an awkward sudden movement, my back has "gone" leaving me in a deal of pain and unable to move unaided (even typing this is difficult) I've taken some super strong painkillers...please pray that they at least take the edge off the pain so that I can move without making the air around blue with my cussing!

In trying to correct my Homer Simpson moment in an above post I had another -- i.e., the prostate issue, while of prayerful concern as noted above, had nothing to do with the delay in my clinical trial. That delay was actually due to my blood platelet levels being low -- this happened once before and was no big problem -- they just waited a week and the levels were fine -- God willing that will be the case this time.

An update:

I am staying at my parents. I was only supposed to be dog sitting for the week end. However dad was taken ill with a possible heart attack. Thank God we were there!

Any how, dad is recovering but may have angina and mum is terminally ill . So continued prayers and thanks for being underemployed and able to stay with them for the week while we await for appointments.

It's a small thing, I know, compared with what so many people are going though, but if you could spare a prayer for my elderkitty. We've known for some time she was nearing the end of her life, but she's been doing so well - until tonight; she's had several convulsions and is too weak to move. At this point, I fear she'd die on the way to the emergeny vet, and I'd rather she passed at home.

So prayers, please, that she dies peacefully in her sleep. She's been part of our lives for 19 years.

My appointment with the gastroenterologist (sp?) is tomorrow morning. Please pray for me. I'm so very, very tired of having these symptoms and I'm afraid the specialist won't take me seriously (neurotic middle-aged woman etc). The GP just said 'oh it's IBS' and seemed reluctant to refer me, so I'm really hoping to get someone more understanding than that.

Each of them is, in a different way, at a difficult place where important decisions must be made.

In the most serious case, health, and perhaps even life, is at stake.

Sorry, I feel I can't give details--I know it's easier to pray when you have something concrete in mind.

Thanks for your prayers for elderkitty, and for me and Mr. Red. We had her euthanized today, and we are in shock. She was with us through so many life changes, and I think the reason she resisted dying was that she was convinced we wouldn't have the sense to manage without her bossing us. She was probably right.

My job is making me ill. I'm going to give it the weekend, but am almost sure I'll be handing in my resignation on Monday without a new job to go to. I do have an interview somewhere else in the middle of next week. One of my best friends has been trying to advise me of the dangers of resigning without a new job to go to and how this could affect my future prospects, but I really think the alternative is worse.

I think I need to clarify this, if only for myself. Our lovely kitty died peacefully with me in attendance. We had intended to let her die at home, but when she began having seizures, we rushed her to the vet, who said the first seizure should have carried her off. She was a very determined little girl, always.

Just as one should never post drunk, one should not post when in shock. My apologies.

Update on Herself's nephew A - he is 6 years old and in critical condition with his leukemia - apparently he has continued to fade this week so it is time for a miracle - come on prayer warriors!

I've been quite poorly with a whole host of nasty problems that are being addressed by my GP and specialists. I've pretty much been stuck in bed unable to move for weeks. Prayers would be much appreciated.

Thank you all so much for your prayers for my consultation this morning. When I got there, the receptionist couldn't find the booking so I was a bit worried, but she slotted me in to see the specialist. He was very good, listened to everything I said and answered my questions (even though I felt a bit silly asking some of them as I wasn't sure if they were relevant).

He's confirmed the decision to carry out a colonoscopy and I should get an appointment shortly. He implied that it'll be fast-tracked, due to my age and the fact that the symptoms have lasted over 6 weeks, which implies a risk of cancer. To be honest, I just want to find out what it is, so that I can start dealing with it - it's the not knowing that frightens me. The internet is a scary place if you start googling symptoms!

Thank you and Praise God for answered prayer. I feel more positive than I have in a long time.

I have had a viral infection for 8 weeks now, and seem to have picked up on another one on top of the first one. I feel really unwell, but my GP seems to think that a steroid nasal spray and some cough meds will sort it. I'm not optimistic, but I'm not medically qualified, so what would I know?
Please, of your charity, pray that my body can see off these infections and that I can begin to feel well again...it's gone on for long enough. Plus I have quite a demanding job of work I front of me. Plus I am going to have to let someone down as a result of the illness, which I HATE having to do, but I can't see any alternative.

My mum had shingles in her fifties and Mrs Sioni's neice had it when she was five! It is so painful as it affects the nerve endings
Ask the school for home working & support if he can't make it in for more than a few weeks.

News.
A leap of faith.
I have abandoned two probable permanent and secure job offers in favour of a provisional temporary-to-permanent job offer at the school I was interviewed for this morning. Monday sees me joining them for a trial week. At the end of the trial week, we will discuss whether we've both made a massive mistake or whether we might be looking at a permanent contract.
It just feels right.
Please God, I am making the right decision.

For all the work I have to do this weekend. I don't feel equal to it, but it has to be done.

Thinking of Meg the Red's Elderkitty. My 14-year old tabby is still holding his own, but he has been looking poorly and seems to be slipping into a slow decline. He may have a couple of years left in him, but I don't know. He's the last of his litter. There's another cat who loves him dearly, sleeps curled up with him, cries when he can't find him. He's Jonathan to his tabby David. I don't know what he'll do if/when his love passes over.

As I revealed to the Men's Group at my parish this morning, Z is not well: she missed a day of school this week and visited our gastroenterologist. He ordered blood tests and a cat scan. She needs our prayers, though she is not worried at all. Also, my friend Eddie, a former deacon, has a round mass in one of his lungs: he also is not worried at all though he faces certain surgery next week.

For my young friend, C. She has young children but having them has been difficult. Ectopic pregnancies,fertility problems and treatments, several miscarriages, difficult births. She's now just had another miscarriage and is devastated.

Ten days ago my husband suffered a massive heart attack and died almost instantly. Praise God, he did not suffer. The funeral was held on Saturday, and it was a lovely celebration of his life. I ask your prayers that he may rest in peace, in the arms of the God he has been seeking. And I ask that you might pray for strength for me in the days ahead.

I miss her: she always had a hug and a kind word for me. Another colleague resuscitated her, but she may have been gone by the time she reached hospital. Please pray for her immortal soul. On a slightly more mundane note: my back is still bad. In fact it's got worse today and the earliest appt I could get for STRONG painkillers is Wednesday. Not been aboard for a while so for that abandoned baby.

My job saga continues. I might have a temporary job teaching English at a local school, for a term or two. Somehow this scares me, but I need the work (or, to be precise, the money).

Then another, permanent, job has come up as a school Chaplain. This I would LOVE to get, and will feel gutted if I don't get an interview, but there are lots of obstacles in the way.

Between hopes and fears it is hard to think clearly, let alone try to listen to God. Prayers for guidance / peace / courage much appreciated.

I have my review tomorrow :-0 still have not heard about further funding {:-0 and I still need to keep the Frightful Fiend at bay {{:-0 It's a full life.

I am very worried about Visiting Cat who came in yesterday with the right side of his face very swollen. If it is an abscess, he could die. But we have no formal responsibility for him, he wants no commitment, it will be very hard to catch him a) at all b) during veterinary open hours… it's a problem. And in general, I think his health needs looking at: he is skinny with a big appetite, so I fear he might have the thyroid problem that carried off one of our cats of blessed memory. Often his eyes look inflamed.

Please pray for N, whose Capability process continues today. I've arranged for him to see a financial advisor, so that if management decide to offer him a settlement, we can work out if he can afford to accept without affecting his pension, benefits, etc. However, Mrs N is not at all keen on the idea of him taking early retirement and wouldn't help him with the figures. Please pray for him to get all the support he needs. Unfortunately if he was getting support and reasonable adjustments from management, we might not be in this mess.

For a student in distress. (Many students in distress; please pray for them all; I am thinking of one student in particular.)

Telepath, for cat abscesses, try a cloth or paper towel soaked in hydrogen peroxide and applied to the area. Apply often, every few hours if possible, until the abscess opens up, then apply less often until it has healed. You'd think skittish stray cats wouldn't take the treatment, but they do, and they love you for it. It works wonders, even when the abscess is over the eye (the most dangerous kind).

My youngeset brother is unexpectedly in a good hospital in Abu Dhabi (his home). Had emergency surgery today to deal with a complication involving some stuff he has been living with for 25 years or so. Doing OK, all things considered.

Please pray for him and his wife.


And for our Mum who just got back from England where she was at the funeral of her oldest brother. I got off the phone with her and.....well...yeah.

My 5-year-old step-niece is on lockdown at her school. Don't know the details, hope it is just safety overkill.

[news info reveals that shots were fired in the neighborhood, and a buttload of cop cars plus a SWAT team is gathered a couple blocks down from the school. Best case scenario is that whatever was going on caused the Administration to play it safe and lock everyone it. Probably OK, but please pray for her mom, L, as she is standing outside the school right this minute, freaking out.]

Ron Ferguson of the Iona Community once wrote that when we're asking God for help in our prayers, we'd better make sure we know the difference between healing and curing.

I've joined the select company of those who, with their families and friends, need healing from cancer. It's good to feel the arms of friends around you - even a bunch of raving lunatics like the Ship! Please also hold up a much loved surgeon who has to give this news to people all the time.

My brother has a "worrisome lymphoma" mass in his stomach. He is a fit bicycling nerd dude and he suddenly had a lot of pain in his stomach a few weeks ago. My mom called me up last night to tell me as my bro may be posting about that on facebook and she didn't want me to freak out, as I am prone to do. Nobody knows right now but my brother, my mom, his wife and me. Tests will take WEEKS to show what is going on. Can you pray? I need a community praying and I don't really have one anymore due to my not attending church enough. Thanks.

My Beloved God-daughter's mother isn't very well (nothing serious, AFAIK) and Beloved God-daughter is stressing, as she always does when her mother isn't well. Please pray for good health for her mother, and a less stressful life for Beloved God-daughter, who sometimes seems to have the weight of the world on her shoulders.

For healing for all

Our provincial budget came down yesterday with significant cuts to the public sector in which I work. Having worked here less than a year, I'm low man on the totem pole. I love it here, and was hoping to stay long-term; I may be able to yet, but I (and a number of other staff) are worried. I've been through this cycle so many times and it never gets easier. . .
