On Facebook, I have been reminded that there are only 15 Saturdays to Christmas. Which means it must be time to launch...TADAH..Secret Santa 2013.
For those who are new to it, rhe idea is that you post that you'd like to take part and pm your real name and address to me, also some idea of where you would like to send to (same couintry/continent, different country/continent}, any particular likes/dislikes/allergies. We'll let that carry on till about the first weekend of November and then I will attempt to match Santas to Santees and pass on Santees' details. Santas need to buy or make something to the value of about £5 and send it to their Santee to arrive for Christmas.
So, who's playing this year?

I'll be en route across the Southern Ocean between Auckland and Ushuia over Christmas (probably in the Chatham Islands for Christmas itself) - otherwise I'd love to play.

Seeing this thread did, however, make my eyeballs nearly pop out. It's September - Christmas isn't even on the radar yet.

I know I've started this early, but from experience, I also know that, with all respect, Shipmates don't really notice the thread until it's too late! If I can get names out in early Novenber, most parcels are posted in December and the majority of recipients actually get a Christmas present rather than an early Easter gift, and my nerves get less frayed as I try to keep track of who's posted and who's received [Hot and Hormonal]

Posted by Roseofsharon (# 9657) on :

Good to see this up a bit earlier - gives crafters time to get their gift organised!
Anyway, it's not that early, I got my first charity Christmas card catalogue at the beginning of August and the holly-decked chocolate boxes are already out on the shelves at the local Co-op.

Put me down on your list St Gwladys, and thanks for doing this again.

Poor St Gwladys, who gets it from one side or the other! I'm on the other, out of necessity.

This is an international board, and as such involves the postal logistics of countries such as mine. Canada Post dictates that overseas parcels must be mailed before the end of November in order to arrive in time for Christmas. If this thread only came out in November, that would leave precious little time for St Gwladys to make up the rota, and to shop, wrap, and post an overseas parcel in time for Christmas.

So thank you, St G, for starting this early!
PM will be sent.

Don't worry Adrienne. We all have differing views about when one should start to contemplate Christmas - driven sometimes by practicalities, sometimes by belief and sometimes by other things!

Now I'm out of the education system (where one practised songs for Christmas from October onwards!) I don't mind considering Christmas a bit early...but I can understand your squeak!

Posted by St. Gwladys (# 14504) on :

No offence taken! Unfortunately, practicalities mean that things have to be started early. Personally, I hate the fact that I am already finding Christmas edibles in the shops ands getting charity catalogues through the post. On the other hand - I confess I have already bought some Christmas presents including a possible SS gift.

I opened a package without thinking about the fact it was probably my very own package (rather than something I ordered for gifts for others) - and found a pretty little magnet that will work great to hold up my little's many "art" works. I'm assuming that this is from my Secret Santa, thanks!

Had fun shopping for my Santee - who has similar gift tastes as myself. Santa's helpers have started the delivery process...hope the recipient likes it as much as I would have liked receiving it. [Smile]

I have not recieved any mysterious parcel so far. I will continue scanning the sky for reindeer....

I may or may not have received my parcel... on the grounds that there is something rather tantalising that looks as though it might possibly be from a Secret Santa, but I am also expecting something from another source which has not yet arrived. Still, it is tucked away amongst my goodies for transportation to our Christmas venue this afternoon and in a couple of days' time I shall know.......

Meanwhile, mine to my santee was entrusted to the tender mercies of the Royal Mail by my beloved little Christmas elf a short while ago.

I did post my parcel on Friday (the day after last posting date), and another parcel I sent at the same time has arrived so hopefully Santa will make it on time... if not then Christmas lasts twelve days?
Sorry for my disorganisation!

Postie braved the wild weather to deliver a gift from my Secret Santa this afternoon.
The envelope was split, but fortunately the parcel and card inside were both intact. The card has joined the others strung across the sitting room and the intriguingly shaped parcel is waiting for the great family present opening ceremony on Boxing Day.
Many thanks, Secret Santa

Now that it is officially Christmas here, I opened my package and (ohmygodohmygod) found under the brown wrapping a bag from the BBC, in which (ohmygodohmygod!) was a big mug with the faces of all twelve Doctors on it.

I squealed like a six year old and bounces up and down and hugged it. What a treasure!

Also-- a lovely selection of Green & Black samplers that I intend to share with no-one. [Big Grin] Except the memory of Erin. (Bites one off for Erin.)

Like Curiosity I'm afraid I've left my present under my tree rather than the tree where I am. Will report in on Saturday. I love hearing what every one else received, Happy Christmas everyone!

I reckon my Secret Santa hails from Scotland as my parcels contained a tin of Moffat Toffee and a gorgeous thistle bookmark to cross stitch. I shall enjoy making it very much. Thank you very much Santa and to St Gwladys for doing the organising.

I ended up not able to send a gift but got one, which makes me feel very guilty! [Hot and Hormonal] But thank you to my Canadian friend - I love my gift, and no, not allergic to any of it [Big Grin] It's the only present I have had to open today and very much appreciate it.

Dear Santa from across the sea, thank you so much. You seem to know me very well. A sweet kitty pin, and a cup which is perfect for me as I start my morning in the garden or on the porch when cooler. My cup has a lid to keep my drink warm in winter, and bugs out in summer. PERFECT. I also received some candles, because a lady can just not have too many candles. Merry Christmas and again thank you.

Thank you Arizonan Santa for all sorts of lovely goodies. It's not cold enough for soup at the moment but will put the kit aside for when it is - I often have soup for lunch working from home. [Smile] Also lovely interesting looking choccies and a very festive pot holder. [Big Grin]

My not-so-Secret-Santa sent me four lovely homemade tree ornaments - two angels and two Christmas trees, all made out of buttons! They are on the tree now, and will make a welcome reappearance every year.

An added bonus was a book of Yorkshire true stories, all of which are weird and wonderful in some way! I shall enjoy delving into these at spare moments, though I may never look a Yorkshire lad or lass in the same way again.

Thank you so much from a happy Cottontail. [Smile] xx

Please continue to post when you send your gifts or recieve them. According to my lists, there are still some people who haven't posted and who haven't told me that they would be late [Frown] and a number of people who haven't yet recieved: Sophs, Daisydaisy, The Weeder,Mrs Shrew, Meg the Red, Motherboard, JB, Emendator Liturgica, James the Confident, Vulpeor, Nomadicgrl and Zappa.
Apart from enabling me to keep records, posting also notifies yoour Santa that your gift has arrived.

You can cross me off the list, St.Gwladys - I know that my SS's elves delivering my package are scouring fields afar for the right package to deliver - as it was written somewhere or other - 'Fear not!'

Thanks to my Santa across the pond for the adorable Christmas earrings and for the beautiful scarf. Hand-knit, I believe, in a loopy yarn in a lovely shade of purple!

Well, that has to be the best Ship Santa story ever.

Hugal and I were in the middle of watching Doctor Who, when the doorbell rang.

Grumble grumble, probably someone who's been on the booze all day ringing a stranger's doorbell (we live on the high street, it's an occasional hazard).

Ou well, better answer the entryphone. So Hugal answers.

"Yes, Gill lives here. Yes, I'm Hugal on the Ship..."

Turns out that my Santa, although not local, was in the neighbourhood and decided to deliver his present personally!

So over a cuppa we chatted and opened the package: some home made fudge (two bags, vanilla and chocolate), a home-made ginger cake, a jar of tomatillo chutney and a lovely felt wreath, both made by people at his church.

So thank you, no-longer-secret-Santa, for the presents and for the wonderful way they arrived!

Now, that was incredibly nice of Santa to make a personal visit wasn't it?

Sadly, no present has arrived for either JB or I at the moment, but we can wait. [Waterworks]

Mine arrived a couple of days before Christmas. I opened the package tentatively to see whether there was a gift-wrapped enclosure. There were several! So I had lots to open Christmas Day.

I am delighted. Much is edible, and either cannot be bought in the shops here (Thorntons) or is formulated differently here (Cadburys Dairy Milk). The Gloucester Cathedral notepad reinforces the postmarking on the package, and the lapel pins (rainbow flag and Jolly Roger) will be permanent mementos of this collection.

So thank you to my Cotswold/West Country Santa!

I was very happy to unwrap a beautiful card case - I have been thinking for a long time that I need to get some business cards made up, & this shall be my kick-up-the-bum. Also, the jolly piggy bank (which I will try to save 2€ coins in, for an unspecified purpose - but probably a lovely meal out on our wedding anniversary in May ), the CD and the book of funnies.

And, not forgetting the long ago snaffled but still remembered homemade chocolate truffles.

Generous Santa.

And a [Yipee] that my gift was received and enoyed too.

My Secret Santa arrived a few days before the Day, and was opened to much delight and fanfare. It was a gift in two parts. The first was what appered to be a lovely soft leather bound, gold edged Bible, but which on further inspection was a beautifully bound copy of Lamb: the Gospel according to Biff. I thought it was the best thing EVER! In answer to my SS's question, yes, I have a copy of Lamb in paperback, but nothing as cool as this! [Cool]

And to add to the "local flavor", my Canadian SS included a beeswax icon of the Theotokos, locally made by members of a Ukrainian community in Alberta. It is so special and very distinctive. Thank you EVER so much! The icon will have a place of honor on my home icon shelf. [Angel]

Mine arrived a while back and I was very good and put it under the tree until yesterday.

It had clear instructions about what order to open the small parcels in... the first was to be thrown outside for Alien to open, the door shut and me to retreat to the bathroom to open and enjoy some gorgeous smelling bath salts, and delicious ginger chocolate. Perfect.

And a very cool looking snowman which we're looking forward to making!!

Pic is here!

Thank you wonderful Canadian Secret Santa.

It came! As Isaiah saith, all tears have been wiped away.

I am typing while wearing the pretty blue handwarmers, with a drink nearby set on a crafty Christmas coaster. I also ate several of the chocolates, somewhat greedily.

Many thanks to my Eborian Secret Santa (and to Santa's pet helper as well!) for a lovely and thoughtful gift. Much appreciated. Happy Christmas!

I inadvertently read the customs label - it very clearly said 'chocolate', but it was a very oddly shaped parcel for chocolate. Triangular, very heavy and lumpy at the wide end, and flat, thin and light the other. Most intriguing.

It turned out to contain four chocolate 'lollipops' - big lumps of chocolate on thin sticks, meant to be immersed in mugs of hot milk until they melt to make luscious hot chocolate drinks. [Razz]

Many thanks, Secret Santa, I am looking forward to trying them when the weather turns cold - if I can wait that long (and if Mr RoS doesn't get his hands on them first!)

This is my fault for forgetting to take this with me and being delayed in rejoining it.

I got a beautifully embroidered towel - which I reckon would be a good thing to take back-packing - and a heart shaped dish in a dinky little bag, hand-made and the makers donate to animal rescue charities. It came from Virginia and my Santa's package came from California, which confused me a bit. Thank you very much Californian Santa.

Imagine this. I arrived home from work one day to find a package on the front veranda. Now, I never use my front door so goodness knows how long it had been there. When I picked it up it was from a company in the US. Hmm, thinks I, I haven't ordered anything from the US. I found a wonderful calendar inside--The Demotivators calendar. It was only upon closer inspection of the posting label a few days later that I saw in very small letters From Santa. Thank you SS.
