Am I alone in finding it amusing that World Nutella Day, Chocolate Fondue Day and Diabetes Sunday are all on the same day?

[Big Grin]

Posted by PeteC (# 10422) on :

The first Sunday in Lent is March 9th. Therefore Ash Wednesday is March 5th.

Posted by Welease Woderwick (# 10424) on :

Ash Wednesday taken out of February.

Posted by Spike (# 36) on :

I also removed Shrove Tuesday and references to pancake races as traditionally this happens the day before Ash Wednesday. Also, traditionally, Shrove Tuesday occurs on a Tuesday - this year Feb 12th is a Wednesday

Posted by Firenze (# 619) on :

Except in Leap Years when Easter Monday falls on the second Tuesday in July, unless that is The Twelth, in which case Septuagesima is moved to the August Bank Holiday, they celebrate Christmas in Dogger Bank and German Bight, and Bonfire Night happens over a Wednesday lunchtime in parts of East Anglia.

FRUSTRATED, FRUASTRATED, FRUSTRATED!

WHY CAN'T ALL CALENDARS SAY THE SAME THING AND TELL ME THE RIGHT DATES FOR THINGS? I WASNT TO SCREAM, BUT THAT WOULD START ME COUGHING, AND I FEEL BAD ENOUGH WITH AN ASTHMA ATTACK AND IN BED ILL.

I'M SORRY I GOT THE LENTEN DATES WRONG, BUT I CHECK A COUPLE OF SOURCES AND I GET THE SAME DATE, AND I'M STILL WRONG !!!!!

end of rant, and now I'm going back to bed and take more medicine.

Thank you! Am I really the first person on the Ship having a birthday in May?

Unfortunately, I will not be able to celebrate by travelling the US transcontinental railway (though it would be fun) or attending the New Jerusalem Church in London (again, would find it interesting to be there).

You do know there is something over one thousand Celtic Saints in the UK. ( I found a list that listed 920, but then discovered that quite a few Scottish ones were missing from the list such as Maelrubbha and Ninian).

I feel as if I've always known about St. Ninian, as there's at least one church dedicated to him in Orkney, and he's also had boats and a hospital ward there named after him (the geriatric unit where my mother spent the last ten years of her life was called the Ninian Ward).

DECEMBER is brought to you by Spike, the Saints Coordination Committee, Brownielocks.com and the Birthday Lady

December is World Aids, Bingo's Birthday, Colorectal Cancer Education and Awareness, National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention, National Work at a Business Plan, National Tie, Operation ‘Santa Paws’, Safe Toys and Gifts, Spiritual Literacy, Universal Human Rights Month, and (TANYRSS) Take a New Years Resolution to Stop Smoking

December used to be the 10th month of the Roman year, getting it’s word from “decem”, meaning 10, Anglo saxons called it “Winter Monath” because of burning of the Yule Log, Also “Heligh Monath” or holy month because of Christmas.

DECEMBER SUPERSTITIONS:
(“Snow on Christmas means Easter will be green”.
“If Christmas day be bright and clear. There will be 2 winters in the year")
On Christmas Eve, the animals speak, but it is bad luch to test this superstition
“A child born on Christmas Day will have a special fortune”.
“Good luck will come to the home where a fire is burning throughout the Christmas season”

DID YOU KNOW? That a Christmas pudding should be made with 13 ingredients to represent Jesus and his Disciples and that every member of the family should take turns to stir the pudding with a wooden spoon from east to west in honour of the Wise Men.
