Hosts and Admins, please forgive me fo posting in several boards, but I want to make sure as many as possible see this!
Every year we have a secret Santa - for the last few years I have organised it. If you want to take part, please pm me with your real name, address, any particular like/dislikes and whether you would like a Santee in your own country or continent or whether you are willing to send anywhere. (I try to make sure that if you are willing to send "abroad", your Santa is from "abroad")
(Can we make Heaven the main thread?)
Once you have been allocagted a Santee, you will need to purchase a gift to the value of £5, and send it so that, if possible, it arrives before Christmas.
This is why I am starting now! The list will be open until the end of the first week of November, when I will arrang Santa/Santee pairings.
So, if you want to take part, please pm me!

No, sorry, this kind of thing is very much an All Saints thread, and always has been, so I have closed the Heaven one and redirected people to this one if they want to post to it.

From experience, shippies can be a bit tardy in signing up, so I'm giving everyone until the end of the first week in November. I will then try and match people up and send out Santee details - and hopefully, most people will get a surprise Christmas present in time for Christmas - or certainly by New Year!

Yes, of course! I ask Santas if they wish to send within their own continent or are happy to send further afield. I try and ensure that anyone who is asked to send to a Santee on a different continent gets a Santa from a different continent.

I am shipping on Monday. Tell me what the proper procedure is -- should I enclose a card? The parcel has to have a return address, for the postal people -- should I put my name on? I could always use my cat's.

Posted by St. Gwladys (# 14504) on :

It's nice to include a card, and it might be more of a surprise if you put your cat's name! Can you let me know when you have posted - either by posting on the thread or by pm. Please also post when you have recieved your gift from your Santa. I keep a record of who's posted, and who's recieved. [Smile]

Should we be doing this soon or can we wait till nearer the time?

Choccie (a last minute shopper)

Posted by Leaf (# 14169) on :

Depends where you're sending to, I think. If overseas, it can take three or four weeks for your package to arrive. If your recipient is nearer, and your national postal service reasonably reliable, you have more time at your disposal.

For example, Canada Post wants overseas packages to Europe (they don't have a separate category for UK!) sent by December 1.

There was no time for play.
This was no time for fun.
This was no time for games.
There was postin' to be done.
All that deep,
Deep, deep mail,
All that mail had to go.
As my package went
Down to the Post office and away,
I said, "somebody has to
send these gifts away.
Somebody, SOMEBODY
Has to, you see."
Then I picked out two presents.
fun and silly.

(My gifts are on order and soon to be sent, the credit card states some money well spent).

Ours is on its way from the faraway place it comes from--to make sure it got there on time, we asked for it to be wrapped with a note and sent directly. And despite its distance, we did keep within the price limit--we lucked out! I shan't say more about it. [Biased]

Given that my life has been rather chaotic for the last few months, I reluctantly decided to forego Secret Santa this year. So imagine my surprise when a rather battered-looking packet with a Royal Mail sticker appeared in my mailbox. Inside was a sparkly hand-decorated box containing two lovely homemade decorations which are now on the tree, safely out of kitty range.

I'm thinking this may be my long-lost parcel from last year's exchange. No idea how it got to me, but I couldn't be more delighted. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to the generous giver. [Axe murder]

Santa has arrived and dropped off a parcel. I am not one for deferred gratification, so have already opened it.

There is a elephant embossed tea caddy, very eastern, in lovely deep colours. It contained a key ring/mini torch in bright colours, with my name on it, and a lovely book mark, in the form of a cartoon lion head, and a big clip.

All very much appreciated, and very much to my taste.

Thank you, Santa!

Many thanks to my Secret Santa - a lovely gift (in funky reindeer wrapping paper) arrived yesterday. I'll save the chocolate for Christmas Day but will be enjoying the book over the next few days. Thank you so much!

To my gift recipient - I'm almost certain that I signed my name, rather than Secret Santa. Ooops [Hot and Hormonal] I posted the parcel earlier this week, which should be in good time for Christmas. Hope it arrives soon...

The postman caught us just as we were going out this morning and delivered a beautiful calendar from Scotland. Many thanks (not so) secret Santa!

An Amazon parcel arrived today addressed to Rose Sharon - must be from my Secret Santa [Smile]
I opened the outer box, but the contents (another box) do not appear to be gift wrapped, so I sealed it up again before I could read what it is, and put it under the tree. I will post my proper thanks after Christmas, but wanted to let Secret Santa know it has arrived safely.

I'm a bit concerned that the gift I posted in plenty of time does not seem to have reached it's destination yet.

Ooooo - a thing has arrived through the post...

I have opened the card (thank you [not so] Secret Santa), and I'll open the present tomorrow (I'm off up to my Mother's house for Christmas tomorrow afternoon, so I'm having my home Christmas early [Smile] ), and proper thanks will be posted then.

Thank you - exciting [Smile]

My box is nearly packed-- I need to prepare one more item, then it goes in the mail.

Thank you Secret Santa - opened my present today before I left home for Christmas, and it's a 5-minute origami set, which sounds like fun and was a surprise. When I get back I'm going to play with it and make some foldy things [Smile]

Thanks - what a good idea. I shall be enjoying playing and experimenting. [Big Grin]

We are leaving tomorrow for the hinterlands, so opened presents today. And how lovely! I have a star-shaped box of sweets, and a large ball of sock yarns in raspberry hues! I will have to knit this into something lovely, and I will wear them when it is cold and wool socks are important!

Parcel arrived and not knowing what sort of parcel it was, indeed thinking it was something I was expecting from EBay, I opened it....
Minni golf! The cats will love it, but not till they have sated themselves on wrapping paper on Christmas Day. Thanks [Yipee]

My parcel came today. I opened it as we are going away today. Thank you Santa for my TARDIS money box and jelly babies. You know me too well

My gift arrived, My gift arrived. : ). I put many small packages under the tree. How did you know I love opening gifts? Of course Santa told you that it is the family joke that I like opening packages as much as the gift inside. I started to read the really beautiful card until I noted it told about the gifts so I stopped and put that under the tree as well. Thank you Secret Santa and a very Merry Christmas to you.

My gift doesn't seem to have arrived at its destination yet. [Frown] I posted another gift to a similar destination on the same day, and it arrived last Thursday. Still hoping ...

I sent my parcel off, I hope in time, last week or maybe the week before. It's all a blur!

I also received a lovely parcel which was left with my neighbour this week. Thank you Santa! I'm saving the opening for Christmas day, perhaps after I work my shift.

Cattyish, catching up.

I've had a message that someone is concerned that my Secret Santa pressie has not arrived yet - I've asked the resident elf to keep a look out as it is possible it has been tidied away without my knowing (major house de/reclutter with new carpets + stacks of parcels arriving through online delivery + a big bag of wrapping up to do tonight = not quite sure where we are at the moment). I will report back.

Posted by Roseofsharon (# 9657) on :

Sadly my parcel has not found its way to the intended recipient (not you, Ferijen). It was posted in good time, but I hope it's just been delayed. not lost.

I opened my parcel today as we are off shortly for a few days and the car is already overflowing with stuff.
Thank you French Santa for my boutious gifts, notebooks (so useful as my creative writing one is nearly full) , a candle a new book to read and a lovely pendant that I am wearing at the moment.
I am very happy [Axe murder]

Oh it arrived! And nothing to do with the over efficiency of the house pixie, just slow post - got home from work today. And I opened it - just to check you know [Biased] to find a lovely bulb in a pot and a box of lindt bauble chocolate thingies (don't know what they're called, but they are my very favourite things [Smile] ).

Thank you Secret Santa!

We're doing well! Looks like all the Gb-GB swaps have arrived or it is known that they will be late, most of the USA-USA swaps have arrived, but not all the transatlantic ones have arrived. Please be patient, and please post when your parcel arrives!

I have done well! A lovely little gift booklet, and TWO CDRoms to entice me to New Mexico: one on Santa Fe, and one on Churches and Missions. I shall peruse them at my leisure, and then plan next year's holiday.

Thank you so much, Secret Santa - that is a very thoughtful and pleasing gift. Blessings on you and yours this Christmas. xx

I wish I could figure out who my Secret Santa was. Maybe they want to remain anonymous, though.

I'm curious what others think - do you like to figure out who your Santa was? Do you like for your Santee to figure out it was you?

If I find out - this year my SS signed the card with his/her ship name - then I don't mind, but I don't go out of my way to find out.

Thank you dear SS for beautiful handmade cards, in a lovely wallet, plus jolly star earrings. The card was equally gorgeous. You are one talented person! Thank you!!

And [Yipee] because my Santee seems happy with his/her gifts too.

Many thank-yous to my Santa for the lovely-smelling gingerbread-shaped soap from Yorkshire (I've never had glittery soap before!), and the pictures and bookmark from York Minster. Also the little robin that I didn't notice at first, that is now sitting on the cinnamon-stick logs of my advent ring.

I'm having a bit of a difficult Christmas this year, first one without my Mum, and other stuff, Santa has cheered me up no end. Thank you Santa! [Smile] [Yipee]

Thank you Santa for my beautiful and lovely-smelling things which are so right for me! I'm not trying to guess your Ship guise as I like the anonymity. Mr Cattyish is particularly interested in the chocolate sauce which I think will feature in tomorrow's dinner. I love goats too, so the City Girls goats' milk soap is perfect!

Cattyish, off to make use of my recycled tire Detriot bookmark.

PS I hope the international elves haven't confiscated what I sent across the waves.

Wow, I have been really spoiled! Thank you Secret Santa for my wonderful gift. I hope I am right in thinking you made the wreath yourself. It is really pretty and perfect timing as our decorations are all in storage (and I have been unable to get at them). The cute crocheted penguin is finding a home alongside the one I had as part of my Paschal Penguin gift and is settling in nicely amongst the one-or-two other penguins in the house. And as for the chocolate covered marshmallows, well, they seem to have completely disappeared!!!! Thank you so much. [Big Grin]

I have to apologise to my Santee. Although I have your gift sitting here, it has been impossible to wrap it and get it posted as I managed to break my shoulder (right arm, of course - never do things by half!) and doing anything at all in time for Christmas has been a nightmare. I am even typing this a few letters at a time. The Smudgelet has been brilliant in helping but we have obviously had to prioritise. It will be on its way soon, I promise.

I'd just like to say a very big "thank you" to St Gwladys for organising this.
Isn't it nice to get a sunrise package from someone you don't know? And to plot and plan what to buy for someone you don't know? (I think I got it about right this year...judging from the recipients comment, at any rate!)

So, thank you, St G!

Thank you very much Australian Santa for my cookie cutters (a shark, a one legged person and a surfboard with a bite out of it), book and your letter.
According to the stamp/postage label, it may have gone via Iran rather than ireland... Anyway, it's now here safe and sound

Ah, now....

I have received a rather random parcel which I wasn't expecting. It was sent to me in Glasgow, addressed to a Dr White and came from E. London, from a female with a double-barrelled surname.

Is this, by any chance, a secret Santa that has kind of gone astray and soemone has just seen "Secret Santa" in their PM box from a prevoius year or something?

It's the only way I can think of that a random parcel addressed to a name that doesn't live here and hasn't in recent memory but clearly my address might turn up (other than plain wrong address). Otherwise it's going back to sender - well original addressee on the jiffy bag - with not known at this address.

Thankings galore to my stand-in Secret Santa for the hot presents received yesterday: a nice local art (I'm guessing) cross for Easter, two packets of peanut brittle with chilli, and a block of dark chocolate and truffles, again with chilli.

I made the mistake of leaving out the sweets and seems like the household found them before I had a chance to even open a packet - well, at least I've had some of each (a remarkable feat in this household at times).

Again, appreciative thanks to my American stand-in Secret Santa.
