At about 1715 GMT 14 Dec 2012, neither the general ship site nor forum would load, but I did not get to check longer than about 10 mins. I used 2 'is my site down' services that also reported this, all other internet services were working fine from my office. I don't know if there was routing problem or if the sites were actually not working. Just asking if anyone else had a period of the sites being down. Maybe isolated to North America?

Probably happened in the UK. The iPad can run like porridge, but it was still able to fetch other sites (though something is definitely up with it and FB she muttered darkly).

Either the Ship's server or the Ship's ISP, I am thinking.

I think it crashed at about 16.20ish or thereabouts. No idea why.

How long did this last for?

It can't have lasted long, because I was oot and aboot, as they say, and when I turned my attention to the Ship at 1300 EST, all was as cantankerous and as grumpy, as usual.

ship was giving no reply, but facebook was also slow as slow as swimming through tar. Sounds like the outage was beyond ship control, but our software is more prone to whatever it was slowed the net.

All UK sites were running fine.

For clarity, it wasn't a general 'net issue in Canada with speed. It was just the ship site down.

I concur. The internet was working just fine here but the Ship, sadly, was in the dark. I managed fine though once I checked the Facebook group and didn't notice any, well, notices. [Smile]

Pete, I was about to send you an email when it came back up.

It was the server (doing the server equivalent of attempting to sail through cold treacle) - lasted around 1½ hours.

pease, I'm genuinely curious. Is it possible someone (or something) threw a load of cold treacle in our direction at that time?

I fear the evidence is rather inconclusive.
