This was a game we were playing here a few years ago. It's quite simple - post something that you've never done with the lead in "never have I ever...". The next person to post must have done the thing the previous poster hasn't done, and posts something they haven't done with the lead in "Never have I ever ...". Well, you get the idea. I'll start:

Never have I ever seen an episode of The X-Factor

I have seen an episode of the X-Factor. Seen, I hasten to add, not watched. But...

Never have I ever jumped off a tall building

Posted by Evensong (# 14696) on :

Lord have mercy Smudgie, that's a hard one to meet. Does a tall diving board count?

I was thinking abseiling or bungee jumping actually....

Posted by Jonah the Whale (# 1244) on :

I abseiled from the Euromast in Rotterdam. It's not exactly jumping, but I hope it's close enough.

Never have I had a broken bone.

Posted by Boogie (# 13538) on :

I have - but it was only a little toe (stubbed on a stone on the beach of Iona)

I have never played football

Posted by Gwai (# 11076) on :

I have a broken chicken leg in my freezer right now.

However, never have I ever shoplifted.

And I have still never played football.

I have and I hated it. It's a crap game.

Never have I ever been to Spain

I've been to Minorca and Catalonia.

Never have I ever eaten truffle (the fungi)

Never have I ever smoked a cigarette.

I did, sadly, from age 8 to 28, but haven't touched one since [Smile]

I have never driven over 110mph

I used to drive my ford cortina gt well over 110 mph on the M6

But I have never ever eaten a pizza

I had a shrimp and cheese pizza Saturday evening- Yum!

But I have never gone to a "rave" party.

Posted by LeRoc (# 3216) on :

I haven't gone to a rave party, but once some kind of Love Parade has passed in front of my house.

Never ever have I paid for sex.

Posted by Loquacious beachcomber (# 8783) on :

If winding up with a house full of teenagers a decade-and-a-half later qualifies, then I guess I have paid the price.

But never have I ever owned a purebred or deseigner doggie.

Posted by ArachnidinElmet (# 17346) on :

I have a doggie draft excluder. Not purebreed, but definitely designed (in a fetching grey tweed).

How about St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus in his current manifestation? Not CoE but definitely bishop.

Posted by Chorister (# 473) on :

I reckon anyone making a good enough case for an answer gets it. So will it be Sioni or Jacobsen who comes up with the next 'Never have I ever'?

Oh, and usually we have a 24 hour rule if nobody can come up with an answer, in which case it's then up to the next poster after the deadline to pose the next 'Never have I ever'.

I have never met a C of E bishop, though I do have one as a Facebook friend and I once met Lord Runcie at my old church before I swam the Tiber to become RC. Does that count?

I have never gone more than 112 MPH in a passenger car, though I may have gone faster on a motorcycle.

Posted by Sioni Sais (# 5713) on :

I may have gone faster than 112mph on a motorcycle, but as it was an MZ150 with a broken speedo (amongst other parts) in the field behind my brother's house I rather doubt it.

Never have I ever been to Iceland*

*Note for UK Shipmates; the frozen food supermarket does not count!

Posted by Chorister (# 473) on :

This will be a good a time as any to remind people that the trick in this game is to post something that it is quite possible that some people on the ship have done i.e. not 'Never ever have I been to Jupiter' or some such.
Chorister, Host

Now, back to that trip to (the country) Iceland....

I have been to Iceland, but never have I watched a James Bond film without getting bored and wandering off or changing the channel.

I watched one James Bond film (Goldfinger, IIRC) about forty years ago and watched till the end.

But never have I ever been to Burma.

Posted by LeRoc (# 3216) on :

I've been on the border between Thailand and Burma.

We were in a bamboo hut on the shores of a magnificent lake in the middle of the rain forest. We were all set for a beautiful, quiet night ...

... when at 2am, suddenly a Japanese karaoke boat arrived on the lake, with people singing extemely loud and very out of tune [brick wall]

Never ever have I enjoyed listening to karaoke

Posted by Spike (# 36) on :

I have, but only once. It was at a party with a lot of singing friends, so it was one of those extremely rare occasions when the karaoke was being performed by people who can actually sing.

I have never ridden a bike across the USA.

I haven't, but have a good friend who has--San Francisico to Boston in six weeks, averaging 80-90 miles per day. I saw him en route.

Don't know if this counts...will let more time elapse for bona fide bike riders to show up!

It would have counted, but I've ridden the 50 States!

However, I've never read anything by Marquez

Never have I ever baked a souffle.

I can't claim to have mastered the art of a good souffle, but I think I can be said to have achieved entry-level "have baked" status.

Now let's see if I can not kill the thread by confessing that I have never put up dry wall.

Now an 'easy' one...

Never have I ever owned a pair of jeans or a pair of trainers.

I mostly live in jeans during the fall and winter.

But never have I spoken Swedish.

But never have I ever watched a "reality" show on television.

I've been to Budapest (and loved it!), but... Never have I ever been to Oklahoma.

I have. It was good to arrive, as that seemed to be the only way to get my Dad to stop singing "We're only... 24 hours to Tulsa."

Even though I've road-tripped a good amount, never have I ever gotten a flat.

Posted by lily pad (# 11456) on :

Christmas Eve, as a university student, out to the midnight service and then back to a friend's place until 3 am. Tire on my dad's car was flat so I took a taxi home. We opened the gifts and then dad said he was just going upstairs to get dressed and then he would drive me down to the campus so that I could change the tire because he knew I would never be out driving his car if I didn't know how. After a quick whispered coaching from my big brother, I did change the tire without my dad's help, just. So, yes, I have changed a tire and hope never to need to change another but I have never, ever,

Over 24 hours have passed. Really, the idea of this game (as I see it) is a bit like the UK radio & TV show, I've Never Seen Star Wars where people try out things they've never done, but most of the population probably have.

To keep this game moving, we need to try and come up with less obscure stuff and instead post something that others will have done.

I have. I visited my sister-in-law who was teaching English there. An elderly Japanese couple at the airport station saw me looking confusedly at a map and took me under their wing all the way to where I had to get off. The gentleman spoke passable English and the lady smiled very sweetly.

However never have I ever played a trombone.

Oh, I've been to several Broadway shows on Broadway, but (spoiler alert), I hate to say this: save your money, unless you're going on opening night, when everybody's both fresh and nervous.

Once the thing's been running for months, it gets pretty cut-and-dried. Amateur productions (assuming even a modicum of talent in the cast) often can drum up far more enthusiasm, energy, verve, and pizzaz.

But never have I ever hand-spun pizza dough!

I took the first four on holiday with me a few years ago and took nothing else to read so I had to get to grips with them. By the end of the holiday I was hooked and had to buy and read the rest. [Smile]

Never have I ever been to a fancy dress party (and would like to).

Nen - frustrated tart/vicar.

[tangent] - Starbug, I avoided lacrosse at my sporty school in much the same way. [/tangent]

Wen I went to a fancy dress party I dressed as a robber (complete with swag bag). One of my sons went as a chorister, with a beano comic and a slingshot hidden behind his hymnbook.

But never have I ever been to a nightclub.

Posted by leo (# 1458) on :

I have - often.

But never have i been to a lap dancing club.

Posted by jacobsen (# 14998) on :

When on tour in Montreal with a Belgian opera company, we ladies of the chorus decided to go to a lap dancing club - where , surpise, surprise, we encountered the gentlemen of the chorus!

But I have never bob sleighed

Posted by Gwai (# 11076) on :

I have had a wonderful time with makeshift bobsleds.

On the other hand, I have never taken a driving test.

Posted by lily pad (# 11456) on :

I have both taken and passed a driving test but
never have I ever driven a tractor.

But never have I ever been scuba diving.

eta: I just noticed the DATE differences and not just the time difference.... d'OH! [Disappointed]

OOOOOOPs!

I was a scuba diver at age 18 and 19: my instructor was a marine biology professor at UC San Diego. The university even had a club called the Seaducers! The senior members hosted an abalone dinner every October, when they were in season: they spent a long time tenderizing them before they could be cooked...

I have driven a construction tractor on the job building houses as a young man.

Never have I ever been to Australia.

Posted by Tree Bee (# 4033) on :

I visited Australia last March and met a few shipmates at Darling Harbour in Sydney.

But never have I ever gone sledging.

Posted by Gwai (# 11076) on :

I have had a great time sledding, so I will turn it back over to lily pad:

I have driven a tractor a few times on my brother's farm.

But I have never lived in a flat.

Posted by Pigwidgeon (# 10192) on :

I have lived in several flats -- before being married, in the early years of our marriage, and after the marriage broke up.

But never have I ever been deep sea fishing.

Posted by Sir Kevin (# 3492) on :

Does regular fishing off a very long pier where the ocean is quite deep count? When we were kids, my little brother and I went with a father to a pier somewhere in LA County, maybe Santa Monica. Todd had his line tangled up with those of four or five other fishermen and when they traced it back to him, he had caught a huge fish! It was well over 4 feet long and quite heavy: Dad cut it in half so he could get it in a picture: it may have been a barracuda.

Never have I ever been to Costa Rica or elsewhere in South America....

Posted by Pigwidgeon (# 10192) on :

I've been to Costa Rica (in Central America) as well as many other countries in Central and South America.

But never have I ever been to South Africa.

While I have been to South Africa, well I was born there but been back to visit family twice since.

Never have I been caving

I take it potholing counts? Back in the dim and distant days when I was a lecturer in Further Education, I accompanied a class of student hairdressers and their General Studies lecturer down and through the shortest "pot" in England, which is near Bradford in Yorkshire. The trip took an hour, and we had to be helped up from the end station, which was in a pool of water about 15 feet below ground level. The water itself, fortunately, was only one foot deep. Also fortunately, it was in 1976, a very hot summer, so we dried off quickly. I should have brought a change of clothing, but forgot. In the summers we've been having lately I'd probably have developed pneumonia.

But never have I sung in York Minster (Cathedral).

Posted by Spike (# 36) on :

I have. The choir I belong to used to sing there quite a lot when the regular choir was on holiday.

Never have I ever used Twitter

Posted by Starbug (# 15917) on :

I follow 96 people on Twitter - didn't realise it was that many until I checked! The Raven Master at the Tower of London is brilliant; he tweets beautiful photos of the ravens at various times of the day.

Never have I ever gone swimming with dolphins.

Posted by jacobsen (# 14998) on :

Invoking the 24 hour rule, neither have I, though I have swum in natural ponds with tiddlers.

But never have I steered a motor boat.

Posted by pjl (# 16929) on :

After sailing the 7 seas and many more I have never been sea sick once.

On a fishing trip off the coast of Llandudno Wales, I was allowed to steer the motor boat a mere couple of miles offshore and threw 'hughies' and 'berts' for hours overboard.

But I have never consumed a pot noodle

Posted by Chorister (# 473) on :

Pot noodles were great when you had access to hot water but no grill or hot ring.

But never have I ever eaten octopus or squid.

Posted by Hart (# 4991) on :

You're missing out! Calamari is a treat.

However, never have I ever been to a pro hockey game.

Posted by Stetson (# 9597) on :

I went to a few games in the early 80s, when I was in middle school. This was back when my hometown team had just moved to the NHL, and, despite not having yet won the Stanley Cup, were coasting to critical glory largely on the coattails of Wayne Gretzky. I think I cajoled myself into enjoying the games.

But I have never been to a bullfight.

Posted by Lyda*Rose (# 4544) on :

The US (and I) just went through a national election. Does bullshit count?

But never have I ever been to a strip show. [Eek!]

Posted by Sir Kevin (# 3492) on :

I used to go to the Body Shop when I was an undergrad at San Diego State: the women were sensational; my dream job then would have been dishwasher at the venue: I'd have gotten an eyeful for free.

I have never been to India, though I enjoy the food and go to church with a married couple who were born there.

Posted by jacobsen (# 14998) on :

Invoking the 24 hour rule again, my closest contact with India is Indian restaurants and the wonderful fabric shops I left when I moved away from London.

but never have I eaten caviare

Posted by Smudgie (# 2716) on :

When my brother returned from the Falkalnds, we went to greet his ship and were invited to a celebratory meal. They served the food they had left: caviar on biscuits while the meal was repaired, followed by sausage, chips and beans! [Big Grin] I was rather surprised to find I quite liked the taste. So, I have once eaten caviar but...

never have I ever been potholing

Posted by Starbug (# 15917) on :

When I was in the Youth Training Scheme many years ago, I had to attend an 'outward bound' weekend that included potholing. I wore a lovely grey sweatshirt that my mum had bought for me; even though it was underneath a protective boilersuit, the sweatshirt got so full of clay from the potholes that we had to throw it away.

Never have I ever been to Pompeii (althought I'd love to go there).

I have - a little while ago now, I was only 18 and it was my first independent holiday abroad.

But I have never worn waders.

But never have I been deep sea diving.

24 hours!

I have had some very deep baths, but had to submerge on my back rather than diving.

But never have I carried more than £4,000 on my person.

Posted by Porridge (# 15405) on :

Dunno whether the currency converts correctly, but I once carried a large paper sack with a whole ship's payroll of $375,000 in cash from a Wall Street office down to the docks . . .

. . . and when I got back, I quit.

But never have I ever gone skinny-dipping.

Posted by Ariston (# 10894) on :

So there are some hot springs out in a canyon in New Mexico frequented by the local hippies and, well, wearing much more than a smile seems a bit out of character for the place, really . . .
You do have to be a bit careful about the sun exposure at that altitude, though.

One thing I've never done (but mean to fix this year!): bike 200 km or more in a day.

Posted by jacobsen (# 14998) on :

Well, had you said 20km I would have replied that I had. But since the shocked silence from the rest of the board was ringing rather loudly in my ears, I thought it was time, after five days, to bump the thread.

Never have I shot and killed an animal

Posted by Spike (# 36) on :

I used to work as a Pest Control Technician, so I've killed lots of animals and that included shooting pigeons and squirrels, but

Never have I ever had nits (headlice)

When you look at a dangly piece of hair coming down in front of your eyes and notice a little visitor doing a trapeze act on it.......... then you know you've worked for too long with small children!

But never have I ever played chess against a grand master

But never have I ever climbed a mountain that required ropes to climb.

I climbed a mountain when I was ten, and could have wished for ropes so that my dad could have hauled me up!

But never have I walked the Pennine Way

I did - when I was 16!

But I have never been to Greece.

I spent a lovely week in Greece about 10 years ago.

But never have I ever been through the Strait of Magellan.

Posted by jacobsen (# 14998) on :

Neither have I, but I've driven through Snake Pass in fog, and that was exciting.

but never have I driven a Rolls Royce
