I managed to achieve 7/20

5 out of 20 - rubbish!
Posted by Dafyd (# 5549) on

14

16.
Note to self: get a real life.

5 - about right since I was mostly guessing.

6 - also mostly guessing. I haven't seen every single episode and my memory for the details is not very good.

Also 7/20. A lot of the questions were not directly about the series, so I'm not sure if they count or not (says he, trying to salve his pride).

5/20 which is probably right, as I don't follow detail like this. I enjoy them for the fun of it.
Oh, and the memory is not what it was.

10. Its very biased to the new stuff!

12, not as much of a geek as I thought. (Partly relieved, partly saddened.)

I got 6 out of 20.
Not bad for never having seen Doctor Who at all.

11/20, which I think is not bad for not being British, and only watching the new series (but it was biased in favour of the new series, and my kids are tremendous DVD-repeat-watchers).

9/10—and, much as I want to make some "but there's not enough about Old Who!," that's too much of a fanboi whinge for me. After all, even people with TARDIS t-shirts have never seen episodes of Old Who.

That was tough! 14 out of 20, but a lot of the answers were (more or less) educated guesses.

16/20 which isn't bad for a die-hard Pertwee-Bakerite.
Posted by The Rogue (# 2275) on
:
10

7/20, which is only two better than random! I'm not surprised as I haven't watched it since Tom Baker.

9/20 - with a few guesses, a tough quiz!

16. It was very Nu-Who, mostly. I had to guess about half a dozen. I too should acquire a life, I suppose.

17/20. I didn't get the pop music question, which was fair enough, but I'm a bit dubious about the other two questions I got wrong.
One was "what has the mark 7 sonic screwdriver been used for?" The "correct" answer was to heat a teapot, but this was not on tv but in a short story published on the BBC website(!). I said "turn off lights" in reference to "Flesh and Stone" where the Doctor had to turn off the lights to open the door to escape the Angels.
The other question I got wrong was "which actor didn't audition for the Doctor?" I said Russell Crowe but apparently the right answer was Timothy Dalton. But I can find no corroborating evidence that Russell Crowe ever auditioned for the role - does anyone know if this is true?
I'm really taking this far, far too seriously...

Surely there's an infinity of actors who didn't audition for The Doctor. Did it mean "Didn't audition although invited"?
Posted by The Revolutionist (# 4578) on
:
It's multiple choice, so didn't audition out of the four options given.
Posted by Pine Marten (# 11068) on

I put Russell Crowe too, so would be interested in any details ...

I seem to remember it was when one of the US television networks was interested in buying Dr Who as a franchise to make a more "american" version (after the McGann film and before Ecclestone). Crowe was seen as suitable non-American but familiar enough for the role. Other ideas included the Hoff as the Dr and giving the Tardis an enormous pair of lips and a speaking part.

Ah, yes, that's it! I've tracked down a source... Russell Crowe is on the long list of actors who were considered or auditioned for the 1996 TV movie:
TARDIS wiki - Doctor Who (1996 movie)
Apparently Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford and Jim Carrey were the studio's top 3 choices, so I'm very glad we ended up with Paul McGann in the end. As much as the TV movie was a mess, it could have been much, much worse.
