Hi folks,
Who here will be tuning into BBC1 at 9pm Tues (tonight), and Weds (tomorrow) for the first 2 instalments of watching a bunch of complete overconfident bellends belie their entrepreneur statuses...
Who's watching?

I always enjoy saying "I could do better than them..." (though I'm not sure I could! I thought the Firee came over much better on "You're Fired" than on the actual "Apprentice" programme - s/he seemed much more fun and sensible than s/he had when trying to flog lucky cats.
There seem to be a couple of older candidates this year - there's one male who is greying at the temples and who I actually ( ) find quite attractive. He may, however, turn out to bea complete dick. They usually are! And Luisa seems like the one who will be kept in for TV interest but will get fired closer to the "real" event.
We do very much enjoy Dara O'Briain on "You're Fired" I liked it when Adrian Chiles hosted, but D O'B is slightly more engaging, generous and funny. I hope the comedian- guests are all going to do an audition video like Katherine Ryan. It was funny.

I knew Zee was for the chop as soon as he started going on about knowing Dubai really well. I thought Leah was a complete pain, or at least was edited to look like one. Is the point of this series that each task someone's great business idea is tested and in most cases found wanting? We had Kurt and the milkshakes last week for instance.

Well having given them a few weeks to shine, they have all failed. There is not a single one who has come over as even vaguely personable. Normally there is one I am rooting for, but not this time. A complete pile of unattractive, arrogant, stupid, vile creatures. Zee was one of the worst, so I am glad he is gone.
Really, is this supposed to be the peak of British business leaders? If so, we are fucked good and proper.

I agree with St Gwladys - of a fairly bad job lot I'm rooting for Miles who is generally the most polite, & the most sensible. (or so the editing process shows him) Zee was so objectionable that I thought he would be in for longer, just for the entertainment value. The girls have been a load of shrieking banshees, I'm afraid, and make me rather ashamed to belong to the same gender...
But I can't understand how 6 people (who one would imagine were reasonably intelligent), with 2 cars between them and 8 hours couldn't find 8 items. They didn't need to hang around for an hour while the flag was being made, they didn't need to run round the mall in a threesome, surely the information desk in the mall could tell them what the items were and where the shops that sold them were...It was unbelievable how rubbish they were. I can't help feeling I could have found the 8 items by myself!! Sigh.
I love You've Been Fired though. The woman (sorry, can't remember her name or who she was!) who was the businessperson, SO didn't like Zee, and ran rings around his pathetic excuses. What joy!

They must deliberately select the biggest egomaniacs, which is maybe becoming a bit of an over-tired formula. But still, the Dubai trip was pleasantly shambolic.
I quite liked Zee, and would have sacked about 4 others before him, but there you are, that's the fun of it. Of course, he was insane in his selection for the board-room.

I think his arrogance did for him there. He thought he could cope with 2 apprentice women. TBH, Lord Sugar struggles to cope with even a single one of them.
I do have a local candidate too - Luisa. The Stacey Solomon look- and sound-alike. Doesn't mean that she isn't being an arrogant prat like the others.

So who are your “Final Five” at this stage? I reckon three will be Miles, Leah and Alex, with possibly Tim Nice-But-Dim as an outsider because I don’t think anyone can be that bloody useless so must be pretending, and if pushed for one more I would say the tall dark haired one who had a cat-fight with Usma early doors.

Am I the only one to feel faintly depressed by the series this year? I'm not sure if it's the tasks or the fact that none of the candidates (perhaps with the exception of the slightly hapless Jason) seem very likeable. Add in the fact that none of them seem particularly good at trying to run a business and it's becomming a programme that I'm beginning to wonder why i watch it.

I cringed through the whole of the last episode, they were all so inept! The men seem immature and aggressive (with the exception of the aforementioned Jason who I find adorable, he seems a naturally nice person though clearly out of his depth) and the women are bitchy. There doesn't seem to be obvious winners at the mo, either. Miles seems the most likely and his maturity probably helps but I do wonder why he is there if he is already such a successful person. Mr D and I kept shouting at the TV "But what does this have to do with TEAM BUILDING?!" and "WHAT does the client want?!" and various other such comments. It seemed bonkers to go off and source activities (chocolate making/archery) before finding out that the client wanted to work on communication... And to fire Wotsername for spending money on a motivational speaker when the frikking flamingo wasn't mentioned at all seems crazy! [ 10. June 2013, 15:14: Message edited by: Dormouse ]

I think she got fired for not actually doing much of anything, either in the previous tasks, or in the boardroom.
She didn't fight her corner. I suspect Sugar may have been questioning how committed she was to her business idea if she couldn't summon up enough fire and passion to keep herself in the process.
Much as I dislike Louise, she does have enough belief in her business idea to want to stay in the process come what may.
Personally I think Miles is the favourite with the Irish Dr. possibly making up the final two.
I'm not convinced by any of the others. Having said that I've never been right about any of the previous winners yet so what do I know.

A bit dull really and the two firee's were always going to go eventually.
The most exciting part of the episode was when Jason got called back into the boardroom. Sweet really.

He was the best. He rose above the bland, corporate, safety-first, flaccid pedestrianism of the rest of the candidates like a pure note of triumph sounding from a golden horn, rising above the grunting dirge of the remaining putrid, festering wastes.
Your Fired was great and I want him to have his own television series presenting the history of something interesting TOMMORROW please BBC. Give him every penny of the licence fee and sack everyone else!

He was intimidated out and I think that he would not have lasted the course. When Lord Sugar calls you a nice bloke the writing is probably on the wall.
Perhaps, instead of resigning the task leadership, he should have asserted himself when that dreadful woman was having a go and sacked her.
And yes, he was excellent on Your Fired. Most people aren't given much chance to say much on that show and the drivel they usually come out with backs up the policy. Jason, however, was witty and intelligent and could probably make any subject interesting. Go on, BBC, give him a show. [ 20. June 2013, 12:14: Message edited by: The Rogue ]

I'm torn between who should have been fired. Alex was a weak project manager and was intimidated by Myles but Myles was ultimately responsible, IMO, as he undermined Alex and the whole brand was his idea. Alex's original idea would have won them the task. As for Luisa! Runs a baking business but can't cook Yet, she seems extremely confident handling a recipe and ingredients. She's also very good at handling Neil! The master of manipulation. [ 28. June 2013, 13:07: Message edited by: Heavenly Anarchist ]

I think Myles wasn't fired because Luddsugah sees him as a possible candidate for the investment. Presumably he wasn't so keen on Alex's idea. As usual, I think Alex came over so much better on You're Fired than he had throughout the series.
For the record, I liked Pobberty Ping as a brand name. Although it's Welsh for microwave, it also has a fun ring about it for everyone

Another reason I guess Alex got fired was that he let Myles manipulate him into changing his mind about the product. I thought he came up with a good concept that would have appealed to kids and their parents. Poor Francesca and the cooking. It always amazes me the number of people out there who can't do basic cooking. I think Neil has winner written all over him.

They did keep telling Neil he needed a plan B whereas the girls had workable plans in fields they were already knowledgeable about. Must have been a difficult choice between the three girls and I'm still not sure about Luisa. I think Leah will win, she has a firmer idea of what she needs to do and has obviously done her research thoroughly. She's also trustworthy, though not everyone might approve of her business idea it certainly has potential.

I think Lord S made the wrong decision, but I understand why he did it.
He sometimes decides to be brave. Sometimes he doesn't, and likes to go with the good prospect. This time he went with the brave decision - for him, as this is an area he knew nothing about.
I think, not knowing either business, he went with the wrong choice.
They were both very good businesses. I would be surprised if Lord S didn't decide to invest in Luisa anyway.

I think he made the right decision, Leah has her head screwed on and has market appeal, her cosmetic service will hit the high street and everyone will know who she is. Great marketing. I suppose I have few hang ups about the nature of her business as I am very familiar with the use of Botox in medical procedures in eye clinic. If people want similar procedures cosmetically then that is up to them and a well regulated process will be of benefit to them. Luisa had no direction with her business, she sent out mixed messages, rubbished suppliers in an unbusiness-like manner and couldn't comprehend what was wrong with the girly design. Some people doubt the success of her other and previous businesses and assume this was overlooked at interview stage as she would be good TV.
