As I said higher up, I am happy to post to all who want it, if they don't mind telling me where they live. I already have St Gwladys's address.

Macarius and I would be up for an evening Petemeet in Surbiton - we'd probably come by train, so somewhere within walking distance of the station would be good.

As for closeness to the station, I fear that I am in the hand of The Hostess with the Mostest™ Her Beatitude Smudgie I.
Perhaps others who met me in Surbiton last year could fill in detail?

As Her Beatitude seems to on her Lenten retreat, this may help.. If HB Smudgie has chosen The Berrylands pub (where we met last year), it is at the roundabout just a short walk uphill from Berrylands Station. Berrylands normally only has a half-hourly service from Waterloo. Trains to Surbiton are much more frequent (roughly every 10 minutes) and then the K2 bus from the stop in Claremont Road outside the Princess Alice Hospice shop runs every 10 minutes, and there is a stop called The Berrylands/Berrylands Station, just before the said roundabout. Walking from Surbiton to The Berrylands would take about 35 minutes, I think, but YMMV.

Happy to pick up folks from Surbiton Station and transport to Berrylands... just PM me your mobile number if you'd rather do that than catch the Berrylands train.
Do we have a meet-up time for the pub?

After some consultation with Gussie, we're wondering about a section of the London Loop from Ewell to Surbiton reckoning we won't be doing much of the tedious bit as we'll divert to the Berrylands pub. The full walk is 7.5 miles, but it looks as if we're not doing the last mile or so. That probably means 6 miles, which I'd say should take us around 3 hours to walk as a group.
This walk entertains me as it walks the Hogsmill.
The walk starts in Ewell, nearest station Ewell West - overground from Waterloo, I guess lunchtime / early afternoon if we're meeting at the pub at 6:30pm / 7:00pm. The section of the London Loop before this goes through the Nonsuch Park, site of the Nonsuch Palace

I've just looked up getting there by pupblic transport. The nearest station is Ewell West (from Waterloo), though Ewell East (from Victoria via Clapham Junction) isn't too far away, and there appear to be plenty of buses too.

I'll give the walk a miss as I am only free from mid afternoon and it's a lot more difficult for me to get to Ewell than it is to Surbiton.
I hope that pub has sorted out its food since last year. Everything I asked for was off. Maybe I'll eat before setting out.

I remember I had the nachos and made the mistake of saying yes when asked if I wanted chili. I was thinking chili powder, the barman was thinking chili con carne.

Embarrass him for me, too, Yangtze - I doubt I'll be over to do it myself any time soon and we need to keep him edgy.

M, sorry, I tend to read my PMs in email so they often don't get marked as read in my inbox. I always forget that it will look as though I've not read them. I must get more organised
I see, though, that you've decided on getting the Berrylands train. It's incredibly simple from there - get off the train, down the steps from the platform, walk about 30 paces up the hill and there you are!

Apart from missing the chance to meet Elaine C, that was a delightful evening. How could I have forgotten that the local pub does half price main meals on a Monday - a definite bonus. But the food was good and the company was excellent. Lovely to see old friends and meet new. And the sticky toffee pudding was the best I've ever tasted, I think.
It did at times seem rather dodgy, this group of people with assumed names meeting to swap packets of dubious looking coloured powder, but we managed not to get arrested or thrown out.
I vote we don't wait for Pete to visit before we all get together again - we can practise ready for next time he's here! It is a bit embarrassing to realise that people who live virtually within walking distance of each other seem to wait until visited by a Canadian dropping in on his way home from India before they can get together for a drink and a chat!
