I'm working on a new motto.
I'm done caring. I'm not interested any more in why the hell white cops are so good at killing black Americans, or in whether it's even true. Believe what you like, just keep it over there away from me.
And everyone can keep fucking up Muslim-Christian relations for all I care. No-one important is ever going to learn lessons from this anyway. So go ahead, believe what you like. Just leave me out of it. Don't get me or anyone I know killed.
And you can believe whatever crap you like about freedom of speech or the peril of flu vaccinations or the morality of anal sex or whatever. I won't bother you any more with anything I know or my interpretation of facts. I'm just gonna sit back, have a chuckle and say to myself "Oh look, there goes another idealogue / conspiracy theorist / God-botherer / perfect illustration of how dangerous a little knowledge is / prejudiced wanker. Always good for a laugh. Oh look, a new Youtube video of a cat!"
I just haven't got the time or the energy for you. I've got cooking and ironing to do, an overseas trip to organise, TV shows and porn to watch, an exercise plan I wanna follow, and basically a whole lot of stuff that's going to make my life better and more enjoyable. I've finally figured out that trying to give a fuck about whether anyone else on the planet has a rational worldview or learns any lessons or just has empathy for anyone who isn't a carbon copy of themselves is a complete waste of my time.
It's a few weeks late, but finally I've got my New Year's resolution. This year I'm going to be shallow and self-centred. The rest of the world can go hang so long as it supplies me with food, entertainment and hot guys to look at.
I feel better already.

I remember a 5th Estate docuentary from the 80s, about an evangelical crown-prosecutor who was trying to get MacLean and MacLean convicted for onscenity in an Ontario mining town.
At one point, the prosecutor rattled off a list of all the jokes he found onjectionable in their act. His earnstly mortified tone-of-voice sounded like he was describing the flames of hell.
