Oh you know, that one where you completely derail the thread by talking in CAPITALS, authoritatively declaring that the complex security issues in London can be solved with BOLLARDS, that you know for certain that the only important issue with this fire is CLADDING and where you simply don't let anyone else get a thought in edgeways because you repeatedly post single line posts that are not open to any discussion.
Because either (a) you're an utter prick or (b) you're posting whilst drunk.
Either way, fuck off already.

You know, I considered calling him to Hell too when I read his response to my last post on the 'Warnings and scaremongering' thread. Then I came here and found someone had already beaten me to it.
Martin, if you really believe that once a building has caught fire the only thing to do is throw up your hands in horror and weep crocodile tears over the victims, I have nothing more to say to you. Except... go and find a mirror, and take a good look at yourself.

The fire brigade is called to kitchen fire six minutes after the alarm was raised. They can do very little other than watch the whole fuckin' place become engulfed in flames in under 30 minutes.
People have been previously advised to stay put in the case of fire, the conventional wisdom being that fires spread slowly.
Martin is entitled to say CLADDING as many times as he likes.
You're the dickhead here cheesy.

Go and say that again to the London firefighters. They worked like heroes throughout the night in very difficult circumstances. Dozens of people are alive today who would not have survived, because of them.
They couldn't fight the fire effectively, no. But their first aim in any emergency is to save as many lives as possible. The second, to stop the fire spreading to other buildings. Putting the fire out in the building it's in comes third.

No doubt at all that firefighters were required to, and did perform well beyond their call of duty given the nature of the situation.

No, the difference is that I'd be happy to wait to hear from you know, experts rather than have to read you repeatedly shitting over threads because you think you have the right answer.
And the problem here is that you don't seem to understand how annoying your behaviour is.

This.
I,m not a news worm but are you actually reading the coverage on this mr. cheesy?
You know America actually banned the use of this fucking stuff? Highly inflammable exterior cladding that is.
You know that people in upper floors phoning 999 were still being told to stay put? This at a stage when every onlooker could see with their own eyes that this was no ordinary fire.

Right, so you admit it wasn't all about cladding - it was about management of the block, it was about the arrangement of space at the bottom it was about the design of the stairwell etc.
In short: you don't know jackshit what was or wasn't the main cause of this accident. It seems likely that the cladding had a significant impact, but as to the other stuff, you're just blowing smoke.

The article doesn't say it was the cladding. It says it was poor regulation. And that is almost always the cause.
Life is, and always will be, a balance. Safety v cost/ profit/expedience/convenience/etc.
The question is whether the balance is reasonable and, in this case, the answer appears to be no.
Posted by Caissa (# 16710) on

Did you read the fuckin' article? The expert pointed to the cladding as the prime culprit.
Posted by Eutychus (# 3081) on
:
Stop treating "experts" cited by mainstream media as "experts". Go read how they are treated by their peers on specialist forums.
The cladding is a contributing factor. The lax regulations that allowed this particular form of cladding are another one. And lots of other factors, such as obstructed corridors, surely contributed. Your failure analysis is about as useful as Trump's Twitter account at establishing the truth.

Read the article again. This time, actually use your brain.*
Safety and building regulations exist because people canning be trusted to do the right thing. Too lax a standard allows for a greater chance of failure.

Use your freakin' brain why don't you.
The completely unanticipated speed at which a raging inferno took hold is the sole reason a large number of folk lost their lives in Grenfell, and that was due to a flammable exterior.
Accepted this was probably not known to those giving fatal safety advice which instructed people to stay put when in fact they should have gotten he hell out as quickly as possible.
Posted by Bishops Finger (# 5430) on

I doubt if, at this stage, anyone knows exactly what happened, and why (though the burning cladding is, as Martin reckons, a spectacular clue). The inquiry, inquests etc. etc. will all take time, but hopefully answers will eventually be given.
Meanwhile, speculation is futile. YMMV.

@Eutychus. The regulatory failure due to Tory policy allowed the inflammable cladding waiting for yet another towering inferno to follow and because the death toll is an order of magnitude higher than any before, enough people have died for things to actually change. That can't change.

Indeed. And one hopes that a second inquest, twenty-five years later, will not be required in order to establish what actually happened.

No, you're right, the proximate cause was caused by capitalism's lobbyists deregulating with no misguided democratic mandate, as in Brexit to end mobility of labour, whatsoever. Capitalism now wants a hard Brexit as that will bring a swathe of deregulation of course.

Well fuck me, Martin. Could it be that the issue has moved on from simply being about cladding and into investigations about gas pipes?
Posted by Martin60 (# 368) on
:
And so it should. Doubtless the welded steel lateral gas pipes from the boxed in INNER stair well riser and subsequent copper piping from the horizontals added to the cladding holocaust. I'm sure there are scenarios where the secondary immediate cause after the freezer electrical explosion was gas setting off the obvious cladding, insulation and double glazing inferno. That will be forensically established.
