So, everyone in a while one trawls through Limbo and wonders where people have gone.
Anyone heard from doubtingthomas? On the one hand, I remember him saying he lead a rather busy life, so he may have just drifted off, on the other... Well, just wondering.

We celebrated All Saints' Sunday today, and the processional hymn reminded me of how much I miss seeing Sine Nomine on board.

I often miss some of the posters who have posted extensively for shorter periods of times but who have wandered off or made to feel unwelcome. Some have died, of course. Not surprising considering that most of us were middle-aged or older when we joined. Life moves on. I noticed that the people so far listed have been the popular (dare I say "in crowd"?) sorts. Those aren't the ones I miss.
I miss the feeling of community that was here 10 years ago. Even Simon (who was he again? - oh, yeah, the SoF magazine editor. The magazine is dormant.) never posts.
Even the admins hardly post. Kelly Alves seems to be the designated poster for the Boards.
Oh well, there's always Facebook. And warm, but fading memories of shipmeets past. [ 07. November 2016, 08:51: Message edited by: Uncle Pete ]

Yes, I asked earlier on this year on the British thread about Heavenly Anarchist as she'd not posted for ages. I understand that she had a busy period of Real Life going on.
Another former British thread stalwart who hasn't posted for even longer is Birdsoftheair. I do sometimes wonder what she's up to, and if she's still in Orkney.

One even hesitates to mention their names for fear of getting a "Whose that?" response. There's one in particular whom I discovered is actually an acquaintance from years back. We've been in touch recently, but he told me he's stopped posting because he felt that no one was interested in what he had to say.

You're right, of course. Miss Amanda misused "whom" in her original post also. She must be distracted by nostalgia for lost Shipmates.
I do miss Ultraspike, Sacristan, Pillar of Salt, and the others who jumped ship over Cosmogate. Also Newman's Own and Father Gregory. And of course Max, the Shipmate everybody loved to hate, but I know we'll never see him back.

And then there was Multipara. She left after a dispute with a Host but I don't think she was planked. Pity she was not around on many occasions - a well expressed word or 2 from her would have quashed some very silly posts.

Multipara once posted a pithy post about idiot parents who give their children ridiculous names. By way of example she gave my daughter's middle name. (She was right, it is a ridiculous name, but it is a family name.)

That's sad.
I struggle with loneliness. Sometimes I can't decide if the Ship makes me feel better or as if I'm outside a party with my nose pressed against the window.

She was told to stop a tangent by an admin, didn't to the Admin's satisfaction, (a really picky point) and was given a short shore leave. After that, she decided the Ship wasn't worth the hassle, and left.

BTW, Our Dear Friend Max is very much alive and well, and busy IRL (he emailed me a few weeks ago).
It would, however, not surprise me at all if the Mischievous One didn't re-assume the role of Annoying Sockpuppet from time to time, as light relief from his IRL activities...

Oh, there's so many ... Gordo I would never say I liked, but he kept my post count up. Foaming Draught I have much to do with IRL but I always loved his rage and spittle shipboard, even though I frequently wanted to slap his pixelated form (never IRL ... he's too fine a RL host) ... Pyx_e, yes, though I like that he popped up for a while a while back.
But I agree with Uncle Pete ... there were many who appeared for a while sometimes in a specialist field, contributed and were gone. The NZ and OZ crowds provided some for this antipodean - there was that photographer from NZ, and Nunc, and acerbic LATA (Left at the Altar), and there was a young fellow from Auckland who I often wonder if I've met IRL as we move now in similar circles - he was a sort of Tat Queen from Ecclesiantics before I moved down there ... there was The Atheist, so frustrating but fascinating ... Founding Father David, who I don't think anyone has ever met, but pops up random-elusively from time to time (I know he's around, but still ...)
Yeah, so many ... whatever happened to Living in Gin who was one of my favourite posters in my early days, so often in the cafe?
But that's life I guess. I often wanted to drift away just to see if anyone noticed!

ST. Chad was badly burned, not by the Ship, but on media including a couple of incidents on the Ship. I think he stays away at least in part for fear that he might be endangered in some way. I have no idea as to whether he's right.

I thought of Spiffy when Tubbs used that description in the Technical Support thread. I enjoyed meeting her when she visited Phoenix several years ago and joined us for a Mystery Worship.

I know Duo Seraphim IRL, but she's never tumbled to my identity. She dropped a small clue once in referring to a case in which she was involved; bang went her cover as far as I was concerned. As best I can make out, I also know Multipara, if not well and have not seen her for probably a dozen years. Our respective parents were acquaintances, mine being a half generation older than hers, and so I'm that much older than she.
