Welcome. New England would seem like a long way from home for a Baby Wombat. [Biased]

I hope you enjoy your time aboard,

I've only just found this somewhat obscurely hidden 'Welcome to Newbies' thread.
I have given the elbow to denominations and fundie forums, and am hoping this ship will fill the gap.
I would worship collectively with Quakers if I could find a group who didn't interrupt the 'spirit and truth' periods of silence with 'opinion'.
This is the better place for 'opinion' IMO.

Welcome to the Ship. I hope you enjoy the voyage. Check the Ten commandments, link above, and read the introduction to each of the boards to get a feel for the ethos of each board. Have a good time.

If you have trouble with inserting links or bold or similar, there is a thread in the Styx specifically to practise this. Most of us use it to check signatures and such things.

Have a good time.

I found the Ship a long time ago, and though have visited some other places I've never felt the need to look for somewhere else. And, though this may seem like a revolutionary concept to those people who seem glued to the screen of their phone, you can have 'silence' here anytime you want - just shut down your computer/phone, and come back later when you have listened to the spirit.

Piglet,
Re your signature line, it's a 'Fruit' if it's served with custard and a 'Vegetable' if it's served with gravy.
Nevertheless thanks for the welcome (not shared by all it seems, since I find myself listed as "Currently ringing alarm bells"!)

If you look again, you will see several other newbies there. Part of the humour on board, expressed in different way. See injunction to wash your hands after posting, and there are other instances too. It by no means diminishes the welcome.

There's a (rather silly) reason for that particular signature, AB - in a Chinese buffet the other day my Better Half took some fruit salad with some rather unusual-looking red grapes in it, which turned out to be tomatoes. [Big Grin]

eta: My understanding of the "alarm bells" reference is people who have been registered for a while, but haven't posted, but I'm open to correction.

It's just the five most recent registrations. The five Shipmates with the highest number of posts need to get a life.

And, before anyone thinks they're smart by mentioning it ... yes, I know I'm not far off that list myself.

After following the discussions for a while, I have recently joined the Ship - and already been very warmly welcomed, too!

Much like some of the other contributors up-thread, I feel a little daunted by the prospect of actually joining in the discussions - so perhaps it will be a while before I say very much.

Thank you to those who have been so welcoming. It is good to be aboard!

I've welcomed you elsewhere and now let me welcome you here, too - it's always good to welcome another Shipmate aboard. If you haven't already done so [you probably have as I know you've been lurking for a while] please read through the Ship's version of the 10 Commandments and the FAQs, both linked at the top of every page. Don't worry, you don't have to join in but it's more fun for all of us if you do.

And that's the point - having fun.

After quite some time thinking about it, I finally decided to join. This looks like a mostly peaceful place with friendly looking people.

I'm a cradle 'Piskie that isn't overly involved in the religious side and might tend to claim that I am more spiritual than religious, but I love the church.

Other issues and activities interest me, too. I'm a gardener, mother/grandmother, involved in the landscaping business in sales (part time).

Taking the plunge . . .
