I never interacted with the dear lady, so do not have a 'personal' experience. I can say, however, that when lurking over the years, I did read her slant on things with interest. May God hold her close and give her the best of rest for eternity. So sad.

Here is a Facebook post from St. Peters Church:
quote:
To all our Facebook friends far and wide,

Thank you all for your messages of sympathy and support. The outpouring of love from across the country and indeed, around the globe, is a tremendous source of comfort to us all at St. Peter's. We've experienced a shocking and sudden tragedy and find ourselves wrapped in sorrow. Many of us are are still numb, going through the motions and handling the practicalities, breaking down in tears now and again but pushing on. We miss our beloved sisters Mary-Marguerite and Brenda more than we can express; we see their faces and hear their voices as we move through our days. They remain a part of us even as we celebrate their lives and their passing on to a new life in Our Creator, the center of love. We thank and bless you for helping us along our unexpected journey from routine to tragedy to God's all embracing peace.

ebeth and I will take your prayers with us tomorrow. Please post anything you would like us to say (if we have that opportunity).

First, ebeth and maleveque and Motherboard, my condolences to you who knew her personally. I can only imagine how deeply that must be felt. She always seemed to be someone I would have enjoyed knowing.

I guess I would have you tell the folks at St Peter's and in the Diocese of Maryland what you are probably already planning on saying: That there were people from all over the world who loved her, whose lives she touched, and who miss her. And who are holding her community in prayer as they try to come to grips with this terrible loss.

I like how the obituary mentioned her always wearing hats. No wonder she chose an avatar with a big beautiful hat. [Tear]

What Mamacita said.

I will be asking my friends at St. Spike's who were here when our then-rector was murdered (in an off-premises robbery) thirty-some years ago for special prayers for the community at St. Peter's. May the Lord bless you and keep you in this difficult time.

The world is still beautiful, people are still beautiful, but it is at best a bittersweet, ruined glory.

Funny that I haven't been interested in discussions on line since, it all seems sort of irrelevant.

I didn't know Genevieve, only that I was recently her Secret Santa, the thinnest of connections, and yet enough that this is a strong reminder how suddenly life can end. What's important is life. Her life. Your life. My life. What am I doing with the gift of time? Am I valuing it, valuing life?

If that is one of her legacies - to question what life is all about and what we must do with it while we are here - then I'm sure she is pleased. (I didn't know her either but you don't need to know a person to learn from them in all sorts of ways).

Laura beat me to it - I just dropped her off at home & then ebeth to the Metro.
It was a truly magnificent funeral. The full MW-style report will follow very soon - a collaborative effort among the three of us.
A bagpiper piped her out of the cathedral in a most fitting manner for a dear Shipmate.

Thanks, Maleveque, for the ride home!

You're so right about the music -- this was another classic example of music being used to turn us all into pure liquid. When the piper and organ started into "Resignation" ("My shepherd will supply my need") as her sister bore her ashes out past her fellow priests I was completely done for.
