Friends: Our dear friend Genevieve (sorry, I can't make the accent mark) is on life support at U. of Maryland Shock-Trauma Unit after being shot yesterday at St. Peter's Church in Ellicott City, Maryland. Please keep her in your prayers. Her name IRL is <removed> <news report from Episcopal Cafe> My heart is just breaking. She is a wonderful lady, an amazing priest. Please pray also for the repose of the soul of the administrative assistant who was killed, Brenda Brewington, as well as the as-yet unidentified shooter who killed himself. I am in complete shock right now. - Anne LeVeque

Not many people could pull me out of lurkdom and make me look up my ship password, but this is something special.
Genevieve has touched my life in many ways, all of them lightly, but all of them astoundingly inspiringly. She's the reason I'm where I am right now. There are so few people who radiate positivity like her, and I'm at a loss imagining her fighting for her life. I'm also quite sure that she would be the last person to ask for people to worry about her. In fact, I can see her worrying about the shooter first, because that's who she is.
I haven't prayed in a long time, but you know what? It's got to be worth a shot.

The year I was looking for work and newly arrived here, she would meet me at the coffee shop now and then. Apart from a few fun ship meets, we had good heart to heart chats on those little outings. I am in shock.

Just to let you all know -- I got a note through to the Bishop through a mutual friend to, please, if she is able to hear, say to her when he sees her that "everyone at Ship of Fools is praying for her" or to pass that message along to the next diocesan staffer who goes.

Now the news is saying that the shooter was a disturbed person who had been living in the woods near the church and regularly getting food from their food bank. How, in the name of all that's holy, does such a person get a gun?!?!? ebeth and I are heading up there to St. Peter's in a little while - they are having prayer and fellowship this evening. - Anne L.

Thank you for posting this. I posted earlier on the prayer thread to simply pray for St. Peter's, as they had not named the victims yet, and I was still praying and hoping it was not Geneviève. I am still in shock over it all. [ 04. May 2012, 18:24: Message edited by: QuietMBR ]

Sorry for the double post. I have a good hunch which clergy may well be visiting with her. I will also pass along to him a request to mention that The Ship is praying for her.
Please also pray for the Diocese of Maryland. Our annual convention began last night with this awful news. While the needs of the Diocese pale in comparison to Geneviève's, this news it hitting many who are gathered especially hard.

What heartbreaking, horrifying news. for those who suffered gunshot wounds for family, community and caregivers for the nusery school children from her church; families, caregivers for the custodian who found Genevieve and the administrator for Genevieve's church and wider church community for those on the Ship who knew Genevieve "IRL" for those on the prayer line who, at least for now, will miss her supportive compassion
Probably, now is not the time to ask "Why?" but simply the time to link in prayer
