Laura beat me to it - I just dropped her off at home & then ebeth to the Metro. It was a truly magnificent funeral. The full MW-style report will follow very soon - a collaborative effort among the three of us. A bagpiper piped her out of the cathedral in a most fitting manner for a dear Shipmate. - Anne L.

It was beautiful, profound, sad and hopeful. It was an honor to be there and to have called her friend.

If that is one of her legacies - to question what life is all about and what we must do with it while we are here - then I'm sure she is pleased. (I didn't know her either but you don't need to know a person to learn from them in all sorts of ways).
Amen. Exactly.

Thanks, Maleveque, for the ride home!
You're so right about the music -- this was another classic example of music being used to turn us all into pure liquid. When the piper and organ started into "Resignation" ("My shepherd will supply my need") as her sister bore her ashes out past her fellow priests I was completely done for.

Hopeful, love-filled, shattering, beautiful all describe the service well. Watching her compadres bless her on her way was beyond moving. And the music!

I just noticed that the article said, "there was hardly an empty seat." There were NO empty seats, and a good number of people were standing everywhere you could safely stand. If Maleveque and ebeth hadn't saved me one, I'd have had to sit on Anne's lap.
