Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.

Into thy hands, O merciful Savior, we commend the soul of thy servant, now departed from the body. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech thee, a sheep of thine own fold, a lamb of thine own flock, a sinner of thine own redeeming. Receive her into the arms of thy mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen

There are no adjectives that suit my feelings about this. So I offer as my own heartfelt prayer these (somewhat modified) words from the Orthodox burial service:
O God of spirits, and of all flesh: you have trampled down Death, and overthrown the Devil, and given life to your world: Lord, give rest to the soul of your departed servant known here as Genevieve, in a place of brightness, a place of verdure, a place of repose, from which all sickness, sorrow and sighing have fled away. Pardon every transgression which she has committed, whether by word, or deed, or thought. For you are a good God, and you love the human race, because there is no human who lives and does not sin: for only you are without sin, and your righteousness is to all eternity, and your word is true.
Memory eternal. Memory eternal. May her memory be eternal.

I want to get in my car and drive over to St. Peter's...to walk into that beautiful little church...to smell the incense of the years that seeps out of the walls...and to be greeted by Genevieve once more.

In times of rough seas, O Lord, hold close our Ship, and all who sail aboard her. And when one of our crew is called to sail that final journey homeward, receive her with joy into the harbor of our heavenly home, where there is no more sickness, sorrow nor tears, but life eternal.

Just got home from St. Peter's. So much pain in that community, it's unimaginable. It seems so surreal even now. Yes, Genevieve's body is being kept going for the purposes of donation, but she is gone. One thing that was interesting - the police commander spoke to the members and others who were there, to let them know mostly what had happened and to address questions they had, as far as he was able, given the investigation. I usually don't post on these sorts of threads (I don't do actually morbid very well), but I am. It's a bit hard to keep looking after my own anarchic, happy bit of the Ship, knowing someone got murdered—yes, I'm still keeping at it, but still. Perhaps it's because I could bike to her house, perhaps it's because it's in the local news, perhaps just because I stopped and paid attention to her posts . . . but this is a bit harder to take than I was expecting.
Prayers for all.
