Here at the beginning of the New Year, just starting in the Chatham Islands, we bring our prayers before God.
Once again I begin with the prayer I used last year:
My God, my Creator, my Redeemer, my Love Spirit pervading all creation, of which I am a part Spirit which moves within me and unites me to that whole May we grow towards unity May we help each other in our daily needs, earthly, spiritual and emotional May I learn to have compassion for myself and others May I be open to the promptings of the Spirit So that we all may live in peace and love and rejoice in the glory of creation. Let it be so.

On other threads on the Ship, especially those dealing with jlg's death, a great deal of pain is being expressed. For some this is caused by losing a friend, while for others her death has been a reminder of an abyss they stare into daily.
for all who live with pain, of whatever kind
for all for whom 2011 brought suffering
for all who face 2012 with dread at what it might bring.

I have come to the sad realization that my mom is an alcoholic and why she isn't dead is a miracle in itself. Suffice to say Wednesday night was a nightmare - calling 911, hours in emergency - she is back home and we are meeting with her doctor on the 9th to discuss her addiction. I need prayers to be compassionate when needed and tough to be the bully she needs right now to hopefully overcome this and once again be the vital woman she once was. Prayers for others out there watching their parent/s making addictive choices to be strong and loving in the ways that will make a better difference for their loved ones lives. I am still, totally freaked out and so incredibly angry. [ 31. December 2011, 16:15: Message edited by: Lady A ]

Please pray for my friend C. He is supposed to be spending this evening with us, but texted to say he the thought he might be having another stroke and wanted to be left alone. Needless to say we're concerned so are on our way to check on him.

Prayers for a young friend, M., a toddler who is undergoing surgery on Wednesday. Hopefully it will be a fairly minor procedure but any surgery on a small child is difficult for him and his family so
Prayers also for a dear friend, H., who is having a very involved cancer surgery on 1/6. For his family also.
I'm seeing specialists at a local teaching hospital for breathing problems on 1/4. I've seen local doctors and specialists and they're all stumped. I hope and pray the experts at the teaching hospital can come up with a diagnosis and treatment.
Praying for all here, and remembering everyone affected by the loss of jlg as well.

Today we're beginning the new year praying for Son #2, who broke his leg yesterday while sledding in the CA mountains with his young nephew at a winter resort -- he and the nephew were on the sled when it hit something and flipped, and as Son tried to protect the nephew his own leg somehow got caught under the sled. Anyway, he had to be airlifted to the local hospital, they found three breaks, and he now faces surgery to have pins inserted...it's going to be a long and expensive road for him to recover, and he's very worried about finances; more about that than the actual injury.
Within minutes of hearing this news, as we were talking about it with Son #1, we learned that this son's partner has been very sick for the past two weeks with some sort of bacterial ailment...one doctor dismissed it as a "bug," but a second doctor is quite concerned about it.
Prayers for DP, too, who is suffering from asthma and what sounds like bronchitis in the wake of Christmas; she has her own doctor's appointment this Wednesday to try and get better. She's been feeling better during the day but still struggles to breathe at night...has had to double her breathing treatments.

For relief of all the pain, suffering and dread that afflicts those of our number.
For healing for MotherA, and strength for LadyA.
For Gussie's friend C, for healing.
Remembering Erin.
For jlg and her victims.
For all those caring for elderly parents, including Campbellite and G Bee.
I would also say that the Telemum is suffering some objectively minor side effects and limited problems which are nonetheless getting her down. Her gout is mostly under control, thank the Lord, but healing of these nagging problems would be great too.
For Lyda*Rose's Raul and Marta and their family.
For healing for ErinBear's M. and H., and strength for their families. For healing for ErinBear.
For light to overcome the darkness.
Lord, have mercy on all those afflicted by the earthquake in Japan.
For healing for LutheranChiklet #2, and financial recovery as well. For healing for his partner. For healing for DP.
Our next-door neighbour, who is very frail and in poor health, has fallen downstairs for the second time this week. Please pray for her safety and that of her partner.
I have set some very important goals for the first quarter of 2012. It's very important that I meet them all.
K. has some goals that she is eager to meet, too.
For E., H., and A.
For what I am about to whisper.
Most urgently for G., who is losing her sight. [ 01. January 2012, 21:03: Message edited by: Telepath ]

For healing for MiL Woderwick.
I turned down a very good offer this past fall so that I could instead stay another few months in my present workplace as I like it so much. The race is on to secure more funding for me before 31st March. Oh please, oh please...
For the Telemum.
For G. who is losing her sight.
For neighbours R., J., and T.

Last Friday (30 Dec.) i got the result of the biopsy. The pair of adjacent spots on my upper lung or bronchial area (i'm still a bit unclear on that) are indeed melanoma. I will be discussing what this means with my oncologist on 5 Jan., altho the nurse who reported the result to me went out of her way to emphasize that the CT-PET scan which had found the pair of spots found nothing else anywhere in my body. So i don't know what's in store for me. I would think some kind of chemotherapy would be part of it, which sounds unpleasant, but i really don't know if that would be the case. While i like to be informed about my body as much as feasible, i'm going to put off researching this until after i've met the oncologist and had the chance to have some kind of picture of the parameters of the situation. Before then anything i tried to research would probably tend to terrify me since, despite my best efforts, without knowledge i tend to fear the worst. Once again, thanks for the prayers -- knowing that prayers are going up on my behalf really helps.
