M*A*S*H - was totally original, completely awesome, and hilarious. Col Potter was brilliant, with the fantastic way he interacted with so many of the other characters, and brought them together.

I met him, when I was a baby. he came to our homestead and stayed a week. I don't remember, of course, but my mom remembers him as being lovely. and very willing to dive into hauling water and splitting wood and all that stuff. Helluva actor.
that's the second loss from M*A*S*H this year. director Charlie Dubin died in September.

Another mention for Harry Morgan. I suspected he played himself as Col. Potter, including that no-nonsense streak that could, when necessary, bring God up with a start.
I'll miss Dobie Gray too. Drift Away was a karaoke favourite of mine.

You beat me to it, Comet! I was just confirming he was on my list. (A cursory read shows that Mamacita and Genevieve also had him.)
A lot of moving tributes coming through my feed on FB and Twitter. One I particularly liked, from a guy who is normally playing "the class clown": "I always saved [his] articles to read later. I wanted to be as smart a reader as he was a writer. RIP."

I am a big fan of her.

An article I read because I was curious about that very point says that chimps in captivity usually survive to 60 years. Cheetah lived a very pampered existence I gather. Like the QM surviving well into her 102nd year.

Okay, any final deaths to report from last year. Given that I probably won't have time to complete the results for a few days, you do have a bit of time to get them in, but not too long.

Sometimes it takes a couple of days for the reports to filter out, even when deliberate obfuscation (e.g. Kim Jong-Il) is not the goal. I'd say that if nobody hears reports in the next day of people who died Dec 30/31, it should be a wrap.

Okay, so I've added up the final scores. The link is here.
There were late surges by several people who picked Hitchens and Kim Jong-Il, but we have a runaway winner (with 209 points!), take a bow Amazing Grace!
Also the Inside Track With The Grim Reaper award goes to Gwai, who scored the first hit of the year on January 4. Very well done.
And finally, the Quantity Not Quality Award happens to be shared between the two highest points scorers, Gwai and Amazing Grace who both predicted an impressive 5 deaths.

A bit late with this, but, for Piglet - he was a brilliant, compassionate cancer doctor, despite being very ill himself for a lot of the time, and wrote books about how to listen to people affected by cancer, such as "I Don't Know What To Say". Oh, and he also wrote, produced and performed in the Royal Marsden Hospital's Christmas Show for a few years- I remember a sketch where a hapless occupational therapist attempted to teach him, as Superman in full costume, how to make a cup of tea "Tea? Tea? But I can leap tall buildings in a single bound"

But they couldn't catch up because I had Hitch and CrazyDictatorMan on MY list! Mwuhahahaha! It wasn't as spectacular a DP double-hit as the day that both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson died, but it was enough to keep me on the top of the board. <INSERT VICTORY LAP HERE> I've usually done respectably on the leader board since I discovered where the former multiple deadpool champion of a Usenet group I knew of in the old days was posting her lists. Basically, if someone was alive on her list at the end of the year, I put that person on *mine*. She now posts on The Deadpool as "MCB With Bars" (MCB stands for "Most Cynical Bastard", the title the group used to give). I'm a little apprehensive about my chances for 2012 because she's got Hugo Chavez and Penny Marshall on her list and I removed them from mine in draft. Oh well. Those are the breaks! Congrats to past Ship champion Gwai for getting the Inside Track award and being my co-champ in # of deaths predicted! I'd also like to thank her for not picking La Winehouse, allowing me to surge ahead on points. Huge thanks to basso for his work, and iF for stepping in as scorekeeper when b. got sidelined. It was a high scoring year for a lot of people. Multiple scores close to or over 100 and at least two people were right behind me and Gwai with four picks. Well done!
