How do you receive a PM -personal message? Does it come in your email? or on here, somewhere? Or does someone stick it to an arrow and fling it at you? Is there a list of commonly used acronyms ? Just trying to fit in.

PMs are like little threads that only you and the person you're communicating with can see. If you have a PM there'll be a little flashing sign saying "You have 1 unread private message". Click on that message, or the "My profile" link towards the top right of the screen to access your PMs. You can choose to have an email sent containing the text of the PM, which is useful if you don't get into the Ship everyday. There's an option in your profile for that; follow the "My profile" link and select "View/Update Profile" to do that. But, make sure that if you have any sort of auto-reply function on your email (eg: out of office messages) that you disable this function on the boards before turning it on on your email, because those messages come to the board admins email - and they may contain the text of the PM, and at the very least we get fed up with emails we don't need to see.

You could try the SOF acronyms and jargon thread here in the Styx.

I would like to be able to post a reply without re posting the whole page, (as was a problem when I first started out). This is why all of my postings were attached to a quote..thus irritating many. Pardon me for being gun shy..but have I managed to do this right?

That document is really sad, and sheds a whole new light on this discussion. I know it is tangential, but I want to focus on one element of that diatribe: The allegation that 50% of Catholics don't believe in the real presence. I think the traditionalists are blinded by their ideology. Anyone who observes an RC community at prayer during Mass and watches the procession to Communion is witnessing the faith of the church in the Real Presence in action. The language we use to describe that Presence may be problematic, but I don't believe that AMOUNG ACTIVE PRACTICING CATHOLICS there is an issue about belief in the Real Presence. That's my observation and conclusion, but I'd like to hear from our resident RC folks on that.
First practice attempt.
