After a particularly successful 2013, several exciting new opportunities have opened up on my list of the despotic and disreputable. The survivors can ride because I’m too lazy to think of anyone else.
Therefore my unlucky 13 looks like this:
1. King Mswati III of Swaziland 2. Fidel Castro 3. Hosni Mubarak 4. Mullah Fazlullah 5. Silvio Berlusconi 6. Bashar al-Assad 7. King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia 8. Islam Karimov 9. Nursultan Nazarbayev
And a few non-despotic picks:
10. Michael Douglas 11. Paul Daniels (just because) 12. Ben Jonson (Olympic cheat and famous anabolic steroid abuser - bad for the heart) 13. Peter Stringfellow (long shot - but I personally have a theory that he's dead already and just hasn't stopped moving about)
(It turns out that I’m a big softie after all – I don’t have the heart to put Michael Schumacher on the list )

St Gwladys, I agree with Schroedinger's cat's analysis of the changing name issue and can confirm that his proposed action will be allowed under the rules although if he kills off someone on his 2013 list then those points will not be allowed.

I don't think any of them are dead yet...but some of them are barely hanging on. If my record from the past continues, this will give some of them the Zsa Zsa Gabor Kiss of Life Award.

Thanks, Ariston. I can report already that there are forty three entries and that if all our chosen celebrities were to die today comet would score most points by a long way - 954 points with JFH in second place on 724 points. Amazing Grace and Campbellite would, remarkably, share third place with 676 points despite the fact that they only have three nominations in common.
Everyone would share the "Inside Track With The Grim Reaper" award and the "Sudden Death" award and everyone except Kysyl (who only made eleven nominations) would share the "Quantity Not Quantity" award.
However, if that were to happen the secret services of several countries would be investigating the Ship and all her crew so let's hope that it doesn't.
Let battle commence!

Despite his career as a journalist and MP and setting a world 5,000 metre record, Sir Christopher Chataway who died yesterday age 82, is best known for his performance in a race he didn't win (Sir Roger Bannister won, in the first sub-four minute mile).
2014's looking a prolific year for deaths already.
