Transferred wholesale from last year's thread. I was going to swap Sharon for A.N.Other, but if I do they're bound to switch him off.

Teach me to be a pompous ass, (I doubt it will, but there we go). I quite thought he'd take his own life as a final act of control. I will substitute Fidel Castro and my amended list predicts that death will be fatal for the following
- Phil the Greek;
- Nelson Mandela;
- Bobby Mugabe;
- Jalal Talabani;
- Jawad Al Maliki;
- Ismail Haniya;
- Ariel Sharon;
- Ian Paisley (For services to ecumenism);
- Steven Hawking;
- Cliff Richard;
- Fidel Castro;
- Margaret Thatcher;
- Pope Benedict XVI;

3.Margaret Thatcher – I’m surprised she’s still around.
4. Queen Elizabeth II – She’s getting on, and I really want to have one “huge news story” on my list.
5. Ozzy Osbourne – Although he’ll probably make it to 100.
6. Saddam Hussein – Heart attack. I’m positive he’s not going to go the execution route so he’s on my list.
7. Paris Hilton – think of the points!
8. Stephen Hawking – although I’ll be upset if I’m right on this one.
9. Fred Phelps – someone’s going to flip out and shoot him one day.
10. Bill Clinton – which would put an interesting spin on Hillary’s election bid.
11. Dick Cheney – haven’t seen him in a while…
12. Prince Charles – No clue why, just a hunch
13. Pope Benedict – Which rounds out my list of world leaders.
I, like TM above me, thought that he'd be sure to off himself before they hung him. Turns out that officials thought the same.
I'm going to go with Ariel Sharon as my substitute.

My list. This is my first entry into this competition (and indeed, I'm just getting my feet wet in this lovely site).
1. George H.W. Bush (some of this clan must start dying off) 2. Jimmy Carter (seems like he’s next, with Tricky Dick and the unmemorable Ford gone) 3. Pat Robertson (wishful thinking) 4. Robert Mugabe (more wishful thinking) 5. Preston Manning (because we need a tidy end to the Reform movement in Canada) 6. Raoul Castro (because he’s almost as old as his brother, and this transfer of power has gone TOO smoothly) 7. Fidel Castro (a foregone conclusion, I’m afraid) 8. Ariel Sharon (although I’m not sure this should count, as he’s been dead for all intents and purposes for a year) 9. Phil Lesh (former Grateful Dead member) 10. Prince Philip (doesn’t have the same stamina as HRH) 11. Hugo Chavez (but not assassinated by Pat Robertson, LOL) 12. Salman Rushdie (just because it would be vaguely ironic if he died of natural causes after all the fatwahs against him) 13. Margaret Atwood, because it’s starting to feel like she’s been the reigning doyenne of CanLit for as long as Victoria was Queen.

For my first time ever entering this competition, I have decided on a somewhat different approach from the norm. Rather than picking people who seem likely to die due to old age and hopefully picking up the odd point here and there, I am picking people who are all quite young, so that on the off chance any of them does die, I'll make out like a bandit on points. Tragic deaths of young celebrities DO happen, after all ... so maybe this year it'll be one of these 13.
1. Paris Hilton 2. Lindsay Lohan 3. Jessica Simpson 4. Nick Lachey 5. Mary-Kate Olsen 6. Ashley Olsen 7. Nicole Ritchie 8. Brad Pitt 9. Angelina Jolie 10. Jennifer Aniston 11. Vince Vaughan 12. Owen Wilson 13. Orlando Bloom
It's not a death-wish list, really. Some of them are people I quite admire and would be sorry to see go. Others, I'd be happy to see getting less headline space but I still don't actually ill-wish them. But if bad fortune does befall even one of my list...I don't see why I shouldn't benefit from it.

Right, here goes.
1) Humphrey Lyttleton (Really don't want this to happen, but it's sadly realistic). 2) Thatcher (I have my bottle of wine ready). 3)Victoria Beckham (as she appears to be starving herself) 4) Michael Barrymore 5) Frances De La Tour (Miss Jones from Rising Damp. Again, hoping I'm wrong here.) 6) Stephen Fry (My favourite comedian and celebrity, so I desperately hope this is wrong). 7) Tracy Emin 8) David Blaine 9) J. K. Rowling 10) Willie Nelson 11) Ken Dodd 12) Sophia Loren 13) Jeremy Clarkson

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I got myself in a pickle about how to choose (along the lines of -'if I want to win, I should look up prominent Iraqi politicians and prominent Palestian and Lebanese politicians who aren't connected to Hamas or Hezbollah - but, wait a minute, actually I don't want to score points in any game as a result of deaths which increase political instability in areas which really need greater peace and stability' - so my brain started going ).
Now, I've pretty much run out of time, but I still want to be in on the fun, so here is a slightly rushed and random selection:
1) Shane Warne (Australian cricketer - being the world's greatest spin-bowler ever can only go so far in compensating for being a smoker) 2) Paul Gascoigne (ex-footballer) 3) Ariel Sharon (former Israeli politician) 4) Maggie Thatcher (milk snatcher and general witch) 5) Anne Widdecombe (Tory MP) 6) Jeffrey Archer (ex-con who plays at being a literary fellow) 7) George W. Bush (him) 8) Cliff Richard (crooner who murdered the Lord's Prayer a few years back) 9) John McCririck (racing pundit) 10) Judi Dench (British actress) 11) Jeremy Clarkson (presenter of 'Top Gear' and general car-obsessed, anti-green twerp) 12) Heather Mills McCartney (glamour model, wife of Macca, etc) 13) Axl Rose (Guns and Roses front-man)

For me, when someone manages to blow up the entire Iraqi cabinet at once, I'm sure to win this competition. That will be my sole source of comfort when the entire Middle East descends into a warzone and I end up being conscripted into the army to help keep the peace.

Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kindgdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Nouri al-Maliki (Prime Minister of Iraq) Fidel Castro (President of Cuba) Hamid Karzai (President of Afghanistan) Ariel Sharon (former PM of Israel) Michael Howard (former UK Home Secretary and leader of the Conservative Party) Boris Yeltsin (former Russian President) Jean-Marie Le Pen (Leader of the French National Front) Robert Mugabe (President of Zimbabwe) If he doesn't die naturally, someone's going to shoot him. His Majesty Akihito, the emperor of Japan Girma Wolde-Giorgis (President of Ethiopia) Hugo Chavez (President of Venezuela) Pity. He's so funny when he winds the US up.
