It feels like it! We met at a 21st birthday party.
Technically, we'd met before that because our flat in student halls had broken its casserole dish and tried (unsuccessfully) to borrow the North East Man's flat's casserole dish so that we could pass our flat inspection. So I had heard the NE Man say "Do not give her our casserole dish" but he was talking about me, not to me on that occasion.

In Canada and America, today is celebrated as Groundhog Day. If the groundhog comes out of his burrow and it's sunny and he sees his own shadow, he goes back for another six weeks' nap.
It's cloudy here today, so he wouldn't have seen his shadow, but I'm still not convinced that we'll see anything that could meaningfully be called "spring" here for at least another couple of months. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)

Every 2nd February.
Various places have ceremonies where they let a groundhog out to see whether or not he sees his shadow, and predicts the length of winter accordingly.
The best-known one in Canada is probably Wiarton Willie.

I wouldn't normally celebrate such a thing but I think Carrot Cake Day is a forgivable exception - excellent stuff, served warm with a spoon of Mascarpone...
Yum, yum, yum.

Today I am 80!
I know it is not an unusual age to be these days, but, with sensible living and grateful acknowledgement to the NHS I am thrilled to bits to have arrived here!
It is, quite appropriately I feel, tap class this morning, so I cannot think of a better way to celebrate.

Ten years today since my dad died - a lovely man, much missed but I also know how fortunate I am to have had him around until I was 56, most folks don't get that lucky.

Next Monday marks the 5th anniversary of the mag 6.3 earthquake in Christchurch in which 185 people were killed, over half of them in the same building. This building contained a Language School which meant many of the dead were international students.
Many people came from around the world to offer their help, which is also remembered by Christchurch people. I also remember with thanks the many Shipmates who offered their support and prayers for me personally - and have continued to do so through the over 15,000 aftershocks.
This is very much in the minds of Christchurch people as we had the largest aftershock for some time on Sunday.
On Monday I will join a group floating flowers down the river in memory of these people and the other man who died in a later aftershock.

A significant date for me today. The anniversary of Dad's death in 1998. I still miss him. Mum died on 18/3 in 2009 and she too is sorely missed, especially by my sons who were close to her. They often speak of her. These dates bookend a family birthday, so are not forgotten.

Coming in a bit late to comment on this (due to an inefficient lines company)but I remember this in my prayers every year because it was so soon after the fatal Christchurch one, and with so much more horrendous effects. I remember with gratitude the Japanese urban rescue team who helped in Christchurch and hope NZ was able to repay that help in some way.
