I think the Pats and the Cowboys are both bad picks this week, seeing as they're both 5 and 0 and are playing each other... YMMV
Anyhow, in an attempt to be helpful, this website says that Sky Sports 2 will be carrying the following games in the UK:
- Sunday 6pm:
- Live - Titans @ Buccaneers
- Interactive (i.e. via 'red button') - Dolphins @ Browns
Sunday 9pm:
- Live - Patriots @ Cowboys
- Interactive - Panthers @ Cardinals
Monday 6pm:

So, if Green Bay outscore Seattle I'm safe.
Did you see this story in Guideposts magazine? The Favre family seems very special!
Now for my picks: - Miami Dolphins
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Tampa Bay Bucs
You just knew that I had to have some Florida teams, and the Eagles are for my friend Joan who is mightily disappointed at their playing this season, so hopefully this will be a kick in the pants for her team.

For some reason I've never been a big football fan. Maybe because it's always seemed like fandom (of both types of football) could lead to some bizarre, aberrant, and undesirable behavior. But that's just me.
Here are the picks I hope will soar through this round:

Having analysed how many quizzees are going for which team I could go for the teams which have fewest votes. These may be the ones which the careful analysis of all my KOQ opponents has ruled out as not likely to score so would be a very brinksmanly choice. Even more brinksmanly would be three teams which aren't playing (there are two players other than me who haven't voted yet).
Or I could play safe and go for the most popular teams.
Then again I can do my own analysis using the links provided above (or a pin).
OK then:
Dallas Cowboys Green Bay Packers Miami Dolphins

Ah, google is my friend! This website says: quote: When owner Arthur McBride brought an AAFC team to Cleveland in 1945, he held a newspaper contest to name the team and offered a $1,000 war bond to the winner. Most of the entries submitted wanted the name Browns, because the extremely popular Paul Brown was the team's head coach. Browns was selected.
So now we know! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Brinksmanship is staring over the edge of the precipice. I think what you did is leap off, madly flapping your arms, hoping to fly.
I suppose you could be one of these.
Hums to the MASH theme, that brinkmanship is painless It brings on many changes and I can take or leave it if I please.

ROUND EIGHT : VOLCANOES
Time for a more conventional round and the volcanoes round has been a popular one in past years.
We need a new twist this year, however, so you must find a volcano that has erupted within the last 100 years and the person to be eliminated will be the one who chooses the volcano closest to the sea.

I'm going for Mt St Helens, because it helped me pass my geography GCSE, though I love volcanoes in general (not that I'd want to be near one when it erupts though - especially if it was an explosive one). Just look at what happened to the trees.

I shall choose the Galeras Volcano - here map with tiny scale I think shows that it is about 300 kilometers from the ocean, or at least a long ways away. If you scroll down to the bottom of the first link, it shows a large city only 8 kilometers away! Very creepy!

OK, I choose Mount Unzen, and according to this website quote: Unzen is a large complex volcano made of several adjacent and overlapping lava domes. The volcano covers much of the Shimabara Peninsula and is east of the city of Nagasaki.
It erupted most recently in 1991-1995 (yes, four whole years long) during which time 12000 people had to be evacuated from their homes, and at least 43 died in resulting mud slides.
Most importantly, however, is that this map shows it to be about 3.5 miles (or 5KM) from the sea.

serious cross-referencing!
the Harry Glicken who took this lovely photo of my volcano was later killed by davelarge's volcano on june 3, 1991.
Poor Dear Harry was spared being killed by Flags_fiend's volcano by having to go to an interview the day of the Big One (Elizabeth!), and the guy who came to replace him was killed. Notice the last picture was also taken by Harry Glicken.
weird lives, vulcanologists.
by the way, that puppy Unzen killed 43 people and I never heard it on the news!?! that should be a crime! I was even working just one building down from the vulcanologists at UAF at the time. [ 16. October 2007, 06:50: Message edited by: comet ]

I like living life on the edge, and 60 miles is quite a long way from the sea - if you think about it loads of volcanoes form islands so will be v close to the sea anyway.

What about this volcano? No idea on distance from the sea although it is unlikely to be actually in it as that would impair the taste slightly.
However my entry is Bardarbunga in Iceland which last erupted in 1996 under a glacier. By the way it is a stratovolcano.

¡Lo siento mucho, Wet Kipper! You could always go with any of the other excellent Mexican volcanos (Parícutin is a particularly fine choice, having come up one day most unexpectedly in the middle of a milpa).
