There will be a Dead Horses board on the New Ship. The same rules and topics will apply. But we’re not copying any threads across, so you lucky lot get to start all the arguments over from scratch!
I pity the Hosts. We’ll have to double their grog allowance for the first few months...
Will all those threads go into Limbo/Oblivion, and will those make it across? There’s a bunch of good stuff on those boards, and it’d be nice to still be able to access it (especially with a hopefully more user friendly search function!) [ 21. January 2018, 09:12: Message edited by: luvanddaisies ]

We can't transfer any threads over to the new boards, but we will be retaining these boards as a read-only archive.

That is the old Ship. I'm sure the New Ship is of much sturdier materials.
Cardboard and duct tape, at least.

Without knowing what mischievous plots the Captain may have unfurling, I suppose it depends on what sort of splash we have.

Ah, that’s good, I’m glad they won’t entirely disappear! There’s a lot of good stuff on here... and if they’re here they’ll still look the same too, which is nice for the nostalgia.

Arg. One thing I really dislike about the internet is the everlastingness of it all. The nostalgia part only serves to make me really sad, and the, "Remember when we got drunk (or angry or mistaken) and made fools of ourselves?" part makes me long for the fading memory of real life.
I know that's not the majority view though. I'm resigned.

It's almost the end of January, and...
Well, actually, I don't have anything official to report. I can say that the new discussion boards are looking close to ready, but don't have any information about the ultimate state of the whole Ship. We're hoping to get a refreshed ETA soon.
Thank you for your patience.

I was about to suggest gin was why the gifs were wobbly, but not because the gifs were drinking it... [ 30. January 2018, 16:20: Message edited by: lilBuddha ]

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I tend to assume all real life building/renovation projects will take longer than proposed and assumed the same for the new ship. At least the powers that be don't seem to be having a vote for the new ship's name, or we might find ourselves sailing on the Shippy McFool's Face or similar.

On the software I work on, the month of shippinga new version is always incredibly long, sometimes up to 6 weeks, and with a name like "Octnovember". But we always hit the deadline, however we have to name it.
So I am sure the new ship will sail in Decembruary as we have been promised.

That Andrew Constance story is unexpected. What on earth was he thinking? I feel a bit sorry for Ian Kiernan that he never got a ferry named after him after all. I'm not sure how many kids these days know who May Gibbs is or are even familiar with the Gumnut Babies.

Hi all… this is just to say that we’re now almost complete on building the new Ship. We’ve been working throughout January on the new discussion boards and on the Mystery Worshipper, and both those areas are now a few working days away from completion.
We’re still sorting out the best dates to welcome people onboard, but what I can say is that we’ll be opening the new boards inside this coming month (i.e. February), and that I’ll let you know an exact opening date in the next few days. We’ll be running the new boards and the old boards in parallel for a while, to give everyone here time to register, get familiar with the new setup, and post any problems or questions either here in the Styx, or there in the new Styx.
There will be an end-point for running the old and new boards in parallel, when we’ll close these boards and archive them for read-only. It’ll be a big moment, and we’ll post the closing date well in advance.
This is a really exciting moment for the Ship, and we’re looking forward to welcoming you to the new home for this community. Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the New Ship Fund, and to all those who contribute month by month to the running of the Ship. Together, your generosity has made all this possible.
