Your friend's situation isn't at all unusual, BC - a friend of ours, having had 10 years of failed IVF attempts and at least two miscarriages, gave birth to healthy twins (by IVF), and then a year later, completely naturally, to a son. She was over 40 when the twins were born.

[Votive] that your friend has such a happy outcome, and also for all others in any need, especially LC and JoannaP.

Been somewhat sick the last couple of days. Hopefully am over it now or by tomorrow. Emotions vary, though.

Currently putting in a job application. I suspect they want someone with better office skills than I, so I'm probably wasting my time, but so few things come up that I'm remotely suitable for that I feel I must have a stab at it. Prayers would be welcome.

Please pray that my parents get a good night.

Mum has dementia and has succeeded in cracking her pelvis a couple of weeks ago. They have had a good day but tonight Mum is tired and in pain (her painkillers were forgotten in the midst of having a good day). The result is she is being crotchety with my father. There is nothing I can do at this distance.

Is it House of Lords, House of Commons or something internecine? Hope it gets sorted out! IME, politics and the job never mix!

Going to early mass in a few hours so I can buttonhole a priest or nun to help with praying for intercession from St. Jude: ironically, my cathedral parish is SS Simon and Jude! This is because in the midst of rehabbing and decluttering my home of over 30 years, all of my keys were mislaid! We do have nine rooms of furniture crammed into a seven-room house and this complicates things a wee bit. I am dreading calling Ford to find out price and availability on a new electronic key for my 2013 Focus Titanium...

Isn't the 21st century great?

For our church, whose application for planning permission to extend has been utterly, definitively, completely turned down at its final appeal.

So much effort, time, money invested, and all come to nothing.

Which way now, O Lord?

Lord, graciously hear us.

Oh... too sensitive! The Newfie baker lady at the local farmers' market always addresses me as 'darling', which I like. In the context of a prayer thread, perhaps a sense of tenderness may not be such a bad thing. God knows we all need it at times.

Rang my cousin to see how my uncle was as I knew he wasn't doing well, and found he'd died. I thought he wouldn't last long after my aunt had gone, but at least they're both together again and at peace.

I wasn't close to him, but will be glad to see the back of this year, which will be memorable for a lot of things I'd rather forget.

Prayers for all on here, especially the lonely, the lost, the depressed, those who feel excluded, and those seeking work. May there be brightness in your darkness, and that light a steady flame that dispels all shadows.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Harry, one of my "out-laws" who died yesterday in his 93rd year.

His daughter wrote: He was strong, he was vunerable He didn't always understand, but was understanding.

I saw him at Easter this year, and thought he looked frail, but he was still on the track of new things - he had finally tried Chinese food earlier in the year after decades of refusing, and had become a fixture at his local place - they adored him, and would make special dishes for him suitable to his aged digestion.

God's blessings to him and his bereft family. We miss him terribly.
