Praying through.
Eldest son, J, who has been through the mill a bit recently (Failing his first long-term teaching post, marriage split, health problems), has, at last an offer of some teaching work! Not a lot, but some, which makes a change from bar work.
Please pray that the travel will be easy (he doesn't drive and will rely on buses ) and that this two-day job gets extended to ???? as he seems suited to it. This could be a huge Xmas present to him and his new partner, H.

Please can you pray for Mike, the companion (? partner? boyfriend?) of my mother in law. He has been taken ill in the night and taken to hospital. A stroke is suspected. The quicker a stroke is dealt with, the better the chance of recovery, and while the ambulance came very quickly, they don't really know how long he was "struck" (in his sleep?) before MiL realised he was ill.

This morning before the start of the service we heard that our oldest member, D, had died yesterday. He was 91 and had become frail in recent weeks, and had developed increasing medical worries.
He was a faithful disciple, a lay reader, a courteous, kind, gentle man - indeed, a gentleman - and we will miss him greatly.
Rest in peace, dear friend, in the arms of our Lord.

I just now got a call from my friend J who has suffered a stroke over the weekend. I am very concerned for him and particularly about the quality of care he is getting. He's had 1 or 2 "mild" strokes before and says this one is different; it has been much worse. After 12 hours in the hospital, and even though he still is having double vision, the hospital sent him home saying his blood pressure -- although still high -- is now "manageable" -- they told him to phone his GP and make an appointment -- WTF! This is very worrisome, especially as he lives in a small backward Deep South Georgia city where social/human services are far from the best.
(He has ongoing financial problems -- he has worked full-time for the city's school system for 14 years and is paid so poorly that he has to have food stamps! And although this job pays for visits to the doctor, he has to pay full price for any prescriptions!)
