My mind is a jumble of fragmented verses and pieces of songs, but even though it's a mess, it's for Molly. I pray that she will be able to let go of this world without a great deal of struggle.
And I pray for those with her that they will have the strength to let her go.

Finish then thy new creation,
Pure and spotless let us be
Let us see thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in thee
Changed from glory into glory
Till in heaven we take our place
Till we cast our crowns before thee
Lost in wonder love and praise

Lighting a candle here at the south edge of the world.

Today's Psalm from the Catholic Missal is Psalm 27, 1,4,13-14. These words were used by Handel in the Chandos Anthem no.9 "The Lord is my light".

1. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2. One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.

13. I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

14. Wait for the Lord; be strong; and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord!

The Lord is coming - soonest for Molly and later for the rest of us.

Much love,

This Sunday's lectionary strikes me as apt.

Isaiah 40:1-11
Comfort, O comfort my people,
says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
and cry to her
that she has served her term,
that her penalty is paid,
that she has received from the LORD's hand
double for all her sins.
A voice cries out:
"In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be lifted up,
and every mountain and hill be made low;
the uneven ground shall become level,
and the rough places a plain.
Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
and all people shall see it together,
for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."
A voice says, "Cry out!"
And I said, "What shall I cry?"
All people are grass,
their constancy is like the flower of the field.
The grass withers, the flower fades,
when the breath of the LORD blows upon it;
surely the people are grass.
The grass withers, the flower fades;
but the word of our God will stand forever.
Get you up to a high mountain,
O Zion, herald of good tidings;
lift up your voice with strength,
O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings,
lift it up, do not fear;
say to the cities of Judah,
"Here is your God!"
See, the Lord GOD comes with might,
and his arm rules for him;
his reward is with him,
and his recompense before him.
He will feed his flock like a shepherd;
he will gather the lambs in his arms,
and carry them in his bosom,
and gently lead the mother sheep.

hard to walk beyond your vision.
Lord it's hard to be a man of faith,

Father,
Again I ask that you look down in love and mercy on your servant, Molly, and on her family and friends in this time. Let the Holy Spirit comfort us, and reassure us of our salvation through your Son, Jesus.
Yours is the glory and honor forever.
Amen

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee;
let the water and the blood,
from thy riven side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure;
cleanse me from its guilt and power.

Not the labors of my hands
can fulfill thy law's demands;
could my zeal no respite know,
could my tears forever flow,
all for sin could not atone;
thou must save, and thou alone.

When my pilgrimage I close,
Victor o'er the last of foes,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
and behold Thee on Thy throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
let me hide myself in Thee.

Death be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell'st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die.

When I was doing my 'official hour' last tiem I was listening to a CD of humns sung in the Celtic style. Rock of ages was one of them, as was Just as I am, and Eternal Father, Strong to save, Abide with me etc.

One verse that got to me was
quote:
Holy, Holy, Holy, All The Saints Adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and Seraphim, bowing down before thee,
Who wert, and art, and evermore shall be

Molly is going to be with her Lord, and I am very glad. I am so glad that she will be free from pain and sickness, and also so glad that she will not be disappearing from us. The Great Cloud of Witnesses, the Church Truimphant, will be a bit bigger and a bit more truimphant.

Back at my desk for another day... Will be praying through the day.

The following words are from The Pilgrim's Progress, and have been set to music by Ralph Vaughan Williams. This was going through my head constantly last night:

After this it was noised abroad that Mr Valient-For-Truth was taken with a summons and had this for a token that the summons was true: 'that his pitcher was broken at the fountain'. When he understood it, he called for his friends and told them of it. Then said he, 'I am going to my Father, and though with great difficulty I am got hither, yet now I do not repent me of all the trouble I have been at to arrive where I am.
'My sword I give to him that shall succeed me in my pilgrimage, and my courage and skill to him that shall get it. My marks and scars I carry with me to be a witness for me that I have fought his battles, who now will be my rewarder.'
When the day that he must go hence was come, many accompanied him to the river side, into which, as he went, he said, 'Death, where is thy sting?'
And as he went down deeper, he said, 'Grave, where is thy victory?'
So he passed over, and all the trumpets sounded for him on the other side.

---

Father, hold Molly in your loving arms. Comfort adn strengthen her, and all who care for her, that they may know your peace.

Today a friend and I lit candles for you Molly in St James King St.

I have been praying off and on all day. This evening in organ prac I played:

Lo He comes with Clouds descending
Love Divine all loves excelling
Here I am Lord
Nun Komm der Heiden heiland - Bach (BWV 859 I think)
Adagio - Widor (from his second symphony - two versions of it)
Menuet - Boelleman (from the Gothic Suite)
Allegro - Mendelssohn (from the Second Sonata in C minor)
and some Couperin.

All for Molly.

An old prayer i use to pray at Scouts...

comfort and succor all who are in need
the sick and the sorrowing
the bereaved and the dying

Sweet Jesus, hold our dear sister Molly in Your eternal arms, keep all who are close to her safe. Lord i pray for Timothy, for Marion, for all Molly's family, for St Seb, for Marmot...and all who have met Molly face to face, hold them as the loose a dear dear friend....i also pray for all who have never met her, for those who will only meet her in Gods presence...Hold and comfort all who have been touched by Molly's life, whether in real life or on the ship, and as you take her back to you, hold all who are grieving, wheter they put their grief into words,here on the ship, or pray in their hearts.

At lunchtime I'm setting off on a field trip to Glastonbury, where according to legend the first church in England was built by Joseph of Arimathea. Not sure I can believe that, but people have certainly been praying there for a long time, so today and tomorrow my prayers for Molly and all those around her will be coming from somewhere that's been holy to many, many people.

Here's another Emily Dickinson poem.

Vanished

She died--this was the way she died;
And when her breath was done,
Took up her simple wardrobe
And started for the sun.

Her little figure at the gate
The angels must have spied,
Since I could never find her
Upon the mortal side.

to the Sea, to the Sea, the white gulls are calling
the wind is blowing and the white foam is flying
west, west away the round sun is falling
grey ship, grey ship do you hear them calling
the voices of my people that have gone before me?
i will leave, i will leave the woods that bore me
for our days are ending and our years failing
i will pass the wide waters, lonely sailing
long are the waves on the Last Shore falling
sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling
in Eresea, in Elvenhome that no man can discover
where the leaves fail not; land of my people forever
(Legolas' song of the Sea)

Sail on silver girl, sail on by.
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine

Signing in for my shift. Though, like all of us I'd guess, I've been praying on and off through the day.

Lord, have mercy on your servant Molly.
Grant her rest and peace.
May your face shine upon her, now and for always.

--------------------
All shall be well
And all shall be well
And all manner of things shall be well.

For none of us has life in himself,
and none becomes his own master when he dies.
For if we have life, we are alive in the Lord,
and if we die, we die in the Lord.
So, then, whether we live or die,
we are the Lord's possession.

I trust that God is with Miss Molly, helping her and preparing to claim her as his own in heaven.

From the BCP:

Lord Jesus, stay with us, for evening is at hand and the day is past; be our companion in the way, kindle our hearts, and awaken hope, that we may know thee as thou art revealed in Scripture and the breaking of bread. Grant this for the sake of thy love. Amen.

As the day turns into evening here, may the Lord God look down upon all who pray and comfort them. May all who pray feel His love. May all who are affected by grief at this time feel strength in each other. God bless our sister Molly. May she be free from pain and warm in the arms of our love.

If I say, "Surely the darkness will cover me, and the light around me turn to night," darkness is not dark to you, O Lord; the night is as bright as the day; darkness and light to you are both alike. Psalm 139:10,11

Jesus said, "I am the light of the world; whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

It has been snowing here for the past 24 hours, a quiet, slow, gentle, peaceful snow, slowly covering the world in a cozy blanket of fluffy white. As I watch it, I find myself hoping that Molly is also being wrapped -- gently, slowly, peacefully -- in God's love and care.
